Need more opinions =)

Skin tones are really bugging me today! ARgh! What looks good to me might not look good to others. I know I can't please everyone and I'm sure every pro photographer can't please everyone either with their style of photography is that right? Anyway, I'm kind of in a hurry. Gotta go out for a bit with my family. Smile Will reply to other posts later tonight! Thanks for your opinions. I appreciate it!

Ok this one is edited in ACR and reduced size and saved for web. I didn't sharpen for web though. Forgot to. He looks a bit magenta to me. And I'm thinking there's a white balance issue happening here right? or? I tried. It was a very quick edit though. My husband was messing around with my settings on my laptop. =/ These are just test pictures to see what works or not so the composition and everything is pretty much off Blum 3

And this one is using the new action that I made. I didn't make any adjustments to it. I'm still seeing a white balance issue and maybe it needs a bit more brightening? I have no idea. I need your eyes to help me! Biggrin I also sharpened for web on this one.

p.s. anyone else post over at ILP? I'm kind of scared to jump in there. lol

Well, I am certainly not the winner when it comes to skin tones, but I thought I would give it a whirl.....

The first is your ACR edit. I took it back into ACR and used the WB dropper to adjust with the frogs eye. Then I went into ps and did a color balance to remove some of the red just on him and a slight levels contrast boost.

Next I took your edit and went back into ACR and again used the white balance dropper. Then into ps to remove some of the blue with a curves adjustment.

Your final edit seems a bit yellow to me, my first edit still seems red, and the last looked kind of blue!! I think that bath tub photos are so hard because the water and conditions can change the skin tone so much. Like I see M is a bit more red in the face in the bath on his cheek. So that can make edits harder. Also, the part to me that seems a pinch off is how dark his eyes are. Maybe another session with some other pics to edit will give a better indication on skin tones. No matter, both of yours look great Smile I just see a pinch of "something" that I obviously can't seem to put my finger on. Great going on making an action to keep your work consistent. I need to do that as well!! Hopefully someone else will chime in on this...

Oh, and I'm on ILP, but I rarely get responses from anyone (I just post in the JSO side) so I mostly lurk there. I think you have to get in the "click" before you get a lot of good feedback....although that was just my experience with them. The whole group is really knowledgeable though!!

Edited to add - these are private on flickr and will take them down as soon as the thread moves along a bit Smile Hope you don't mind!

nope i don't mind at all! Smile thanks for your help.

see the thing is...these edits now look really yellow to me. your siggy pics on the other hand look fine to me. I'll re-edit this bath pic again now that i am supposedly calibrated. I still think there is something way off with my calibration but i have no idea how to tell or who to go to for help.

and I did notice that that board moves along quite fast and no replies on some threads. oh well! I tried. Smile that's why i like coming here but its been a bit slow ... or is that just me? lol

Ok here is my new edit now that I am "calibrated" I don't know if I trust my eyes anymore. I am very disappointed Sad But i was using my uncalibrated laptop for 2 years! I just got too used to it I guess.

Anyone else on here that is calibrated?? Please help. Sad Im getting a bit desparate.

I think he is still too magenta but you know what.....All magenta colors are really sticking out to me right now. Will my eyes adjust? The magentas are just too bright!!!! Makes me think there is something really wrong.

He looks magenta to me too and the photo seems cool now. I "was" calibrated, but with the Mac stuff that comes with it and I just dont know if I did it right either! I think he is red from the bath though...normal for a kid in water Smile

Sorry I'm not much more help. I think I've started to make things too yellow to compensate for being cool. Ugh!! I hate skin tones!

Oh...how about this....

What are you CMYK values for a point, say on the tip of his nose?

Mine for the second edit are 6%, 35%, 44%. Making me think that I've pulled a bit too much cyan. But it looks like my magenta/yellow ratio is ok.

Ok, you know... I slept on it and now these new colors look alright. I don't know what it was about lastnight but now these colors look alright to me. Hmmm weird? lol Maybe my eyes are adjusting now? strange. Looks totally normal now though. Hmmm even the magentas. They aren't sticking out as much but then again I just turned my monitor on. So that might change.

here are a few color point samples. Now that I look at it the picture could be warmed up a bit more and it won't hurt it I don't think. Smile
thanks for helping me!

Ok, I am CLUELESS when it comes too PS, so I am no help there. Sorry. I liked your second pic, in the first thread. That one is the one I like better.

thanks Biggrin that was the one I used my action on I think. It's so nice just to use an action and tweak it a bit depending on the picture.
