Hi everyone. I am very very new to the whole DSLR thing. My hubby just got me a nikon D5000 and I am still learning how to use to. I don't have photoshop yet so I am working with gimp for editing. CC if you want cause I could use all the help I can get.

I think you are doing greata for just starting out! First off both the kids are so cute! I'm still kind of new to giving people cc but My favorite is the first one! I think he has beutiful eyes! I think this is a great shot! You did great with capturing the catch lights in their eyes! Looking forward to seeing more from you!

And by the way, if you want to find out the settings for each pic, you probably can right click on the pic wherever you have it saved on your computer, then choose properties and then click details. That's how I find out the settings for a pic.

What beautiful photos (AND subjects) you have! I wish my color were as nice as yours, so I won't comment on that at all. My only recommendation would be to review your crops. IMO, #1 would look nicer with a tiny bit more negative space around your son's head. #4 might be cropped to get rid of the piece of fabric that appears on the right border. I'd also get rid of the container and that narrow, triangular piece of the house that appear on the right side of #5; however, you might want to clone vs. crop so that you don't chop off his foot.

Other than this, I think your compositions are gorgeous! I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank you so much! These actually aren't cropped at all so your advice helps alot. I don't know how to clone yet, I'm getting photoshop this weekend. I will definitely go do those crops through.

Lemme make one quick suggestion. Use flickr for your photo hosting, your drop shots has done some seriously strange things to that photo of your daughter.

Love that third shot. Your boy is so cute! And I LOVE his hair.

Really cute pics!! I love the light in #1, although his facial highlights look a tad greenish-yellow to me. #3 is my favorite! The eyes in #4 look awesome.

YAY for new posters! Biggrin Glad you are joining us!

1) LOVE this shot. I so need to do this. Love the grassy shots! Gorgeous eyes!
2) Okay, this might just be me, but the angle and I guess where she's at tin the photo makes her looks super skinny, and very odd. I don't like the comp. She's still pretty though!
3) love this expression, great job!
4) the comp on this one throws me off. There's weird things going on in the background. She looks like there's too much contrast.
5) I would like to see a closer crop. There's something on the right that's distracting.

WTG for posting! Keep up the good work!

That's what I thought too, she looked super-skinny in #2, until I realized she's tucked inside a doorway or something.

Yeah, she's sitting in a doorway in that one. I didn't even notice it makes her look skinny! That's why you guys are awesome!

I'll have to look into getting a flicker account, I've used dropshots for all my normal pics so I just kept using it.

The thing in #5 is one of my solar lights, that pic was taken in my front yard. I had to do some cropping to these still.
