Newborn Post Processing Done

Finally finished them. WOO HOO! I'm not sure how I feel about this set. I really wanted to have a little more variety, but oh well. This was a freebie for a friend...hence the tons of sub par pictures in the set. I'd have tossed lots of those, but you know....friends.

Here is the link to the set - snaps and all...and below are a few of my favorites (and some I'm not sure about). I'd love any CC.

I love them! #6 seems to lose the baby though. It isn't my favorite. I really like the last one! I think it works!

1. I love this...
2. beautiful, great conversion. What is the material baby is laying on? Not sure I like the busy-ness of the ruffles here, and the area above the babys knees and his left cheek and left side of his body looks brighter than the rest, which feels a little harsh... but I'm on my laptop, so can't comment too much on color/brightness. However, most things on my laptop are duller/darker, so my guess would be it would be brighter on my reg. monitor... but idk.
3. Beautiful.. perfect. I love it! The little hand grasping the material, so sweet.
4. I love this angle!!! very nice
5. sweet. also, her hand looks huge at this angle haha.
6. Really neat, but I do agree about baby getting a little lost in this one.
7. LOVE! only picky CC is the cut off foot... but i'm positive you didn't miss that
8. it works, IMO. I think it would work better if the baby was bald and I'll tell you why, the hair blends so much with the black it's kind of weird at first- at least to my eyes LOL but it's very sweet and otherwise I do really like this shot and comp is great!!

ETA: were you ever able to use that cacoon? I hope it wasn't too small :/

Thanks so much for the CC so far. I'll check the light on that 2nd image. It surely might be too bright.

Molly...haven't tried the cocoon yet...this was my first newborn since getting it, and I'm actually saving it for a boy that I expect to shoot in the next few weeks. Provided Mommy doesn't get too busy and distracted to let me know when he arrives.

I'm bummed about the blanket in #6. It's kinda funny....I took that picture..realized the blanket was blocking too much of the baby, so I tried a different angle.

I didn't care for that angle so much...so I tried to fix the blanket and then I got this:

I really love 3 and 4. They seem so sweet and simple. Beautiful set Amber. And nothing looked blown to me on 2. Biggrin

That crying one is hilarious!!

Love them all. Especially the cocoon ones.

#8 I really like but I would like to see baby on a flat surface.

True, the brown is more for boys! I have two baby newborn girls (pb's) coming up and I definitely will not be using my brown cacoon either. I like the 2nd basket shot MUCH more. The crying one is too funny. We always see the nice, happy sleepy baby pics, but it's fun to see the outtakes too!

This is a cute set.

I think some of the skin tones look a little off...but thats how newborn skin is and the reason why most convert them to black and white.

some of you images are a little oversharpened...ie: #4 & 3

Also, if you curl up the baby on their tummy you'll get more flattering poses...

Overall though, these are really nice, and im sure the mom is going to love them.

Yes, a lot of the skin tones are off...it was intentional on some of them....but I don't want it to be distracting. Are there any specific ones that are bothersome?

I actually started on the tummy...but the baby had quite a bit of back hair and the mouth started to gape a lot, so I didn't keep baby there. Any tips how to address baby's mouth? And any tips on PPing the newborn fuzz?

Awww, I was going to say the same thing about 6, maybe you can just use that one with a different crop to get rid of the blanket sticking out and the 'cut off' knee? That's all I can think of to CC, though, these are great shots! I love the detail in 4. And what is she lying on in the first few... is that a blanket from IKEA? I soooo wish I had an IKEA closer to me... I swear my entire family budget would be different if we did. Haha!

Yeah...that's the Ikea blanket. I actually have both. I like that gauzy one for girls and the fluffy one for boys.

As for skin tones...i think the ones that pop into my head the most are #1 and #7..those i find the most distracting, but...i think they would look awesome in black and white.

As for your question of the back hair, i do not photoshop those out, i keep them in...i think newborns need to remembered as they are..back hair and all Smile Its all a part of being a newborn...back hair, baby acne, birth marks, its all that makes a newborn "new" and i explain that to the parents as well....and most of them agree, that they want to remember their babies years from now how they ACTUALLY looked when they were born.

This newborn had peach fuzz all of his back as well...and i left it be...mom didn't find it a problem at all.

As for the gaping mouth...its a big PITA.....but....you can almost always fix that problem by placing one arm under their head all the time and position their head on that arm until the mouth looks right.

For example...i took this shot the first time and her mouth was all open and eating the fur....so i placed her arm under head and voila, no open mouth.

Hope that made some sense, and was a little help at the same time!

Thanks for pointing those pictures out. Those are two of the ones I left intentionally cool...didn't like the way they looked when they were the correct color. I did these in BW too. I'll monkey with the color a little more to see if I can make any improvements.

Thanks SO much for the tip to fix the gaping mouth. I hopefully have another newborn coming up really soon and I'll try it out.

Yeah...there are all sorts of different opinions on what our cameras should capture. I do lots of "snap" shots where I let the baby skin look blotchy and flakey...but for the "beauty shots" I try to make baby a perfect little angel. Best of both worlds I hope.

For example...here is one of my snaps that I processed to keep that "hey I was just born" look. LOL!

You got lots of Cc already, but wanted to just say that these are BEAUTIFUL! Makes me wish I had pics like this of dd. #3 is my favorite and I just love that blanket. Could you share a link to it? I may need that one! Smile

You can only buy the Ofelia items in store I think. The actual blanket I used is not shown on the Ikea website...I found it in the store. I have both the one in the link below..the throw...and the one in these pictures...the blanket.

The picture here looks pretty terrible...but the throw is really nice.
