Nikon 85mm f1.8

Just curious, I'm thinking of getting this lens and have been checking around to find a good price. For brand new from our local photography stores they are between $450 and $499. I found one used and was trying to decide what I should offer the person selling it. What's decent offer for a used lens such as this one?

Would $350 be insulting? They currently have it up for $425 OBO.

If this person says no for $350 does it just make sense to buy brand new for $50-100 more?

I'd appreciate some input! Smile Thanks

That is an extremely nice lens--coveted by many! I would be really really surprised if the person lets it go for $350. I would offer no less than $375 or $400. Also, are you in a position to see the lens before you buy it? If you're buying used, especially at a decent price, you want to make sure the lens is in good condition. I'd kinda just buy it new to be honest if you have the means--then you get the warranty, brand new glass, etc.

Good Luck!!! I know so many people LOVE that lens!

You know, on second thought, why not offer low? What's the worse the seller can say, right? And if they say yes, then you just scored an super nice lens at a great discount. Smile

Yeah, I'd definitely be able to see it, and attach it to my camera before hand make sure it works well, etc. I wasn't sure what to offer but I took a look on ILP in the buy and sell section and noticed quite a few people have sold theirs for 350 so I wasn't sure.

Just got an email (right as i pressing submit for my last reply). He'll sell if for $400, that's still a decent discount considering it's $499 and Henry's so with taxes and stuff I'd save myself $165 bucks...humm...I'd love to have it for my maternity shoot next weekend....I might be getting a new lens!!! Smile

Im a photog mommy to be as well. I shoot Cannon so don't know alot about Nikkon. My favorite lens is my 50mm 1.2. Do you do it full time or for hobby? Im in process of starting it as a business. Any advice would be appreciated.
