Ok, here they are....

Here are a few new photos with my 85mm, 1.8. I hope my edits are ok. I realize there is some magenta in these, but I felt as if it looked DULL without it b/c it is winter time, and it's not gorgeous out here.... Give me your CC please!

1. f/3.5, ISO-2500, 1/100

2. f/8.0, but can't remember the rest. Probably ISO- 2500, and 1/100

3. f/4.5, ISO-2500, 1/200

4. f/3.2, ISO-500, 1/250

5. f/3.2, ISO-500, 1/200

6. f/3.2, ISO-500, 1/200
This one is of my sister and her new hubby. Think they are happy?!?!

I'm not going to offer CC since I don't really know what I'm doing, Wink But I really like the composition and feeling of #3. The background is just gorgeous, too!

Love these.

I love the yellow tones of them. They also have a dreamy feel.

My only question is, What was with the grumpy guy? He has kind of separated himself in the first group shot and he has a grumpy look on his face. and that same look in the second shot too!

Love the girl with the monkey - is there some special meaning with that?

Cazz- I mean to post about that. This is my cousins and uncle and aunt. I think he's just more serious. I got a TEENY TINY smile from him, but it's not my favorite pic. He's just not a fan of photos.
As for the monkey, she got it last Christmas and made it herself, and she just is goofy and likes to carry it around. She's not really attached, just silly!

Good try Sadie! My favourite is #4. The first one looks a little noisy but I know how hard it is to come by decent light in the winter. The 1st family pic looks a bit too bright but i love the posing on the 3rd (and did lol at the grumpy face!).

Great job, Sadie! Way to go with the new lens! They're great shots -- you did a great job with the poses and the light!

They definitely seem a bit too magneta to me, and a couple seem a bit bright. I was laughing about grumpy face too. Goodness! (Reminds me of my brother when he was a teenager. Well, actually, it's still hard to get him to smile for a picture even at 43; he just doesn't look actively grumpy anymore.)

Hey Sadie, Good for you for getting out there. You are right that they seem pretty washed out and dull... Remind me what you are using to edit? If you send me 2-3 full size images at photos by ejrussell at gmail .com (minus all the spaces) I will give them a play!

Great job, Sadie. Love the posing in #3 and the girl in # 4 is sweet!

I agree with Kerry about the noise in #1. But, it may just be over sharpened.

I seriously feel like an idiot after posting these. I didn't edit the correct one of the first one. I ran it thru noiseware, but didn't edit it. So, scratch that one. As for #2 & #3, I have re-edited those. I swear that night they did NOT look that bright. I feel so dumb right now...

Beth- I am using Elements. I will do my best to send them tonight if I remember. Thanks!

I thought that was you at first (your sister!) lol

I LOVE #4, that's by far my favorite shot. I also like #3 although I would have liked the dog (& husband a little) to have more room at the edge. The photo looks a bit too washed out too.

In #1 the bottom half of the photo looks more focused than his face but I am not totally sure.

I like the natural poses of the group shots, nice.

I think you did a great job Sadie! I think you have some nice poses going on here. That's too funny about grumpy face guy. lol Smile I do think that they're washed out, and could use a little warming. Have you ever tried playing around with curves or levels? It's something that I've never touched until recently. Maybe you could play around with that a little (if you haven't already) and see what it does. It may give them more of the depth that you're looking for.

Nice shoot! I love #4. It's a great shot technically, and you've established a great rapport with the model! I also like #1 and #6. I didn't really see the frown until I read Cazz's post, but now I'm really seeing it. I think that if he had perhaps stood closer to the other family members it wouldn't be as noticeable. #3 is a nice family shot, and I'm sure they'll love it! #5 is technically good, but the lack of eye contact is distracting. The same pose with him looking at the camera might look more natural.

You might play around with your camera settings by lowering the ISO and upping the shutter speed. I personally have trouble hand-holding the camera if the shutter is slower than 1/125, and I prefer to be in at least the 1/200 range. I have a 35mm f/1.8 lens, which I now love. However, it's took me while to find the "sweet spot" when it comes to aperature and shutter speed.

Sadie,

I really like 4 and 5. I like the pose for the 3rd shot but it is slightly bright to me. #2 is a little washed out but that is probably because of the light. Winter light is so hard!

I think the focus in #1 is on his jeans. His face looks a little OOF.

I really like them though. You did well.

I think the composition is great on the group shots but they do seem a bit bright to me. The rest of your photo's look wonderful.

Here's the first one re-edited. Is it just too soft???

I think you did a great job bringing out the color, but I do think that it is soft Sad It's almost as if the focus fell on the branch on the lower left side of the image. How were you focusing?

Toggling. I feel like a failure. What the crap is wrong with me! RARRRR! I can't see to get focus down. I thought it was the lens, but maybe it is just me!

Focus is hard! I noticed that a lot of the engagement shots I did were soft. And that was with subjects that were standing still. I'm not sure if I'm not waiting long enough for the camera/lens to lock on to the focus or not. Have you tried back button focus? I tried, but sucked at it lol

I too love how you brought out the colors!! But I agree his face/head & shoulders still look OOF.
