OMG, My Photos Were Stolen

SERIOUSLY never thought someone would still my photos, but it's happened. The woman I did some photos for her Etsy store sent me a link saying that someone had stolen photos from her store for use on this woman's website. WTF?

Here's the link. Take out the spaces.

My recommendation is to email her and tell her that this photo does not belong to her and you have copyright, etc. And say that if she does not take it down then you will sue her *ss... Smile

Hate that!

Oh, I have found every which way to contact her. I've e-maild her, through Contact, contacted the site builder, and Godaddy (who she is registered through).

Let's see how long this takes for 'My site was hacked' or 'My web designer put in place holders, I didn't know they were stolen' BS.

Looks like she already took it down, because when I go there, I get a "Page not found" message. Good thing too - that's a really sleezy thing to do!

Same message here. Geez, why even go through the trouble?! Whats the point of taking someone's pic? People are sooooo rude and sleezy- good word Krista!

I couldn't use that direct link, but I still found the photo/item when I searched for "giraffe hat" at her site Sad

What a nightmare. How on Earth did your client find out it was being used there? That's the scariest part to me is that you'd never know it unless you go out hunting for sites that might steal your work, if that makes sense.

This is why it is sooo important to watermark your work. Do it across their face or something where it'll be hard to delete.

Interesting, I just went back there again and now there is no search bar.

Edit: ok I found the search bar by going to the site map. (search bar was on left column of every page earlier today)

Here's a direct link that works:

my question is: how could this site possibly sell something that is custom-made & shown in a stolen photo???

that's so not right!!!!! just wrong on so many levels, she not only stole from you, she stole from the Etsy store that you took the photos for.

I sure hope that you get your photos taken down from her site.

do you embed your copyright info in your exif data? I just checked that photo, and there wasn't any exif data stored. I think it's important to embed your info in your images, so that you're protected in times like this. of course, that data could be stripped, but you have to know what you're doing.

Sorry, work has been majorly crazy today. I have bearly been able to keep up with this myself!

So it started with my friend (who makes the hats) finding or being told about this questionable website. It turns out she has stolen 2 of my photos (elephant and giraffe), some from another girl that took pictures for Bethany's 5, and 63 photos from another Etsy seller. I know there are more involved in this, and we're still looking.

I watermarked the actual photo but these thumbnail photos I didn't watermark (WAAYYY stupid of me!). But, it doesn't seem to have mattered because she was using watermarked photos anyway.

I don't know how this girl was going to fullfill orders, because Bethany created her own patterns for all of her products...How is someone going to sell custom made items when she doesn't even make them?? Buy them from the actual seller at a higher cost than she's selling them for?? I have no clue.

It looks like she's revamped her site, but still hasn't removed the photos. I've gotten a response from the website developer, but other than that, I really don't know how to take this. I have the original photos and I have the screen shot (that aren't necissary because the photos are STILL on the site).

Ugh, I just don't want to have to deal with this too after what a horrible day at work I've had...guess I'll be up all night trying to figure this out.

Update:

Been back and forth with the owner of the site. She claims they were removed after the issue was brought to her attention, but I found (thanks to Amy) that you can still search for the hats. So, I let her know of this problem and she says they will be gone tomorrow morning.

Hope she's right, what a VERY annoying situation!!!

Ok, that sucks, but sooo very odd that she is posting a photo of a hat she didn't even make. I don't understand people.

Well, maybe if she isn't above stealing photos...she also isn't above stealing money? Maybe she thinks she can just let people order and then deliver either not what she advertises...or nothing at all?

that's what I was thinking too, Amber. Sad

So sorry Jennifer. No one deserves to go through this.

What an aweful thing for someone to do! I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of this. I hope they're gone now.
