panic attack!

This morning I logged into lightroom to find over 20 thousand pictures GONE! Every picture from Cain's first year, all my seniors, newborns, weddings ect! I have my weddings backed up and I was always the 2nd backup photographer but still everything else was gone! Dh did a system restore to restore the computer to a few days ago so I was on pins and needles about to cry waiting the 30 minutes it took. The computer restarted and still nothing. Here is where everyone needs to read...
I googled adobe support and called the first number I found. This guy answers and tells me no problem he will help restore all my photos. He had me log into some page and from there he was working on my computer from where he was. My mouse was moving and things were being typed on my computer but from his end. So he tells me my version of lightroom was not the full version(WHICH IT IS) and my pictures are gone because I need to update to the full version. He told me it was299.00 and he wanted my credit card! Now this guy was already hacked into my computer so it wasnt like I could just tell him what a creep he was cause I didn't know what he could all get into? I told him I did have the full version and I have never heard of that and he said okay you don't want to pay then bye!

I then took my time and went on the adobe website (LIKE A SMART PERSON) and hit contact support from the site. I got a different number and called adobe. The recording picked up so I knew this time it really was adobe. They took me thru a few steps and got all my pictures restored in a matter of minutes. I seriously told the guy I loved him and thanked him over and over! Needless to say I am backing EVERYTHING up today. The thing is now I am wondering who this creep of a scam artist was and I am not sure if he is still able to get into all my stuff? Just thought I would post if you EVER lose any photos never rush and call the first number you see cause your in a panic! I feel bad for the people who really may fall for it cause those pictures are worth way more than the 299.00 he asked for and if I didnt know any better I would have done it to get my photos back!

I hope you did a full virus and malware scan, if he had you install any software UNINSTALL it. After doing all that I would change all my passwords, yeah I know it's extreme but that sort of thing is a serious matter.

Glad Adobe got you sorted out when it came to lightroom.

:lurk:

I used to do tech support and would remote access other people's computers. After you close the program there is no longer a connection and the tech can not access your computer. You would have seen if he installed anything so that should not be an issue.
