Some pics of the kids and their friends playing at the playground. Do the conversions work?

your conversions are really nice! that being said, personally I'd like to see a little less chocolate in them only because of the action going on. the chocolate seems better for more reflective photos, if that makes sense, not so much action. but I really love the captures, especially the second one.

Again I can't take credit for the conversions. They are just minor tweaks on Lemmondrops Fudge Action. For anyone that doesn't know, Lemmondrops is a member of ILP, and she has shared 6 B&W actions (that I know of) that can be freely downloaded. I usually play around with different conversions (both my own and some actions that I have) to figure out which I like best and almost always end up choosing one of hers. They are fantastic and free!

Thanks for the compliments! It really means a lot! I am really beginning to think that the photojournalism/photo documentation/snapshot feel is where I am most comfortable. I can usually take just a few and end up liking most of them whereas the posed shots feel like a struggle. I have hundreds of black and white candids of kids playing, ballet class, riding bikes, just everyday life, that I love. For the most part I have been reluctant to post them because I thought that they were too snapshotty. And, well, many of them contain other kids in the background (esp at dd's classes) that I don't know well so I wouldn't post those anyway.

But I may start posting some of them here because I could use some cc to make them better!

My reason for doing the chocolate conversions for these may just be my aesthetic vs someone else's but I usually really don't like seeing trees and grass in a standard B&W. I prefer a chocolate conversion if there is greenery around ( and if there is too much greenery, I don't like B&W at all). I guess because it feels earthy and so seems to make more sense to me. In the same token, I love a crisp clean black and white without even a hint of chocolate for most indoor shots. I think it is just my personal aesthetic.

I also like to keep all pictures in the same series with the same B&W conversion style so that they can be displayed together. That may be silly but I can be neurotic at times! So while all the pics didn't contain greenery, some did so I went with a chocolate conversion.

If any of you have another way of doing things I would love to hear about it!

I have used several of her B&W and they are really nice.

These are great pics. The only nit picky thing for me is to straigthen #3.

Sometimes the everyday life is what counts most.

It actually won't straighten because of the angle in which it was shot. If the platform is horizontal then the ladder is not vertical. They aren't perpendicular from this angle. I actually like it crooked though.

oh, I didn't mean make them not chocolate, just a slightly toned down chocolate. I prefer chocolate conversions myself. Wink

Lemondrops used to post here too actually ...

Gothcha Gwen! I do agree with you on some of them. I think the one with Max in the swing, Katie in the tunnel, and one that I posted on my blog but not here could really use less chocolate. I just need to see if they still look okay all together. I mostly just posted my thought process because I wondered how other people decided on how to process certain pics.
