    Default Plea for help

    Hi everyone,

I am a really long-time lurker here (very rare poster), lurking mostly because I'm in awe of your photographic talent and want to be inspired by you all.

But today I'm here to ask about this photo. My grandma passed away today, and this is the last photo I took of her. It is a terrible picture (but the circumstances under which it was taken were extenuating), but it is one of the last photos of her so it's important to me.

What I'm wondering is if you ladies can look at it and tell me if the colour is way out of whack or not. I recently printed some photos and the prints were way off what I saw on my monitor (very red, for starters) so my monitor may be off and I don't want to give this photo to my mom/aunts for possible use at her funeral if the colour is totally horrible. I know it's not a good photo, but if you can just tell me how it looks on your screen it might help me to edit it a little better.

    The slightly edited photo is

    and the SOOC photo is

Thank you so, so much for anyone willing to help. She was such a special lady!

What a touching photo and memory. I would just convert it to black and white to avoid dealing with color issues.

    So sorry about your loss.
I had a quick play. Basically I just took out the yellow color cast from the lighting, upped the exposure, and sharpened.

So sorry for your loss. (((HUGS)))

Now, take what I say with a grain of salt, because I'm just learning to spot colors, but to me, it looks a little yellow.

It looks yellow to me as well. Lisa's edit looks pretty good to me. I also think the idea of converting to black & white is a good one.

So sorry for your loss. (((HUGS))) to you and your loved ones.

I hope that you will not just lurk in the future. We'd love to get to know you better.

Thank you so very much for the play you did, Lisa -- it does look better here too, even on my suspect monitor. And thanks everyone for the input and the condolences. We haven't got many recent pictures of my grandma and it was just so important to me to have this photo looking as good as possible -- whether or not it is used for her memorial service, though I suspect it will be.

And thank you for the welcome and invitation to do more than lurk. I'm just frankly so intimidated by the talent, and I only have a point-and-shoot and get a little nervous about sharing my photos. But you guys are just amazing, and maybe I can screw up some courage soon!

I hope you will buck up the courage and post. Personally, I started here w/ just a point and shoot too. And some of our most creative posters have 'only' had point & shoot cameras as well.

The equipment is important, no doubt, but it's always going to come down to how you use it.

Take care and welcome to the gang!
