Ok, here is one I did using only the apps on my phone, I used mostly snapseed:
The shot was hot on his face to start with sadly.

A bit OTT but I really wanted to emphasise his eyes

Here's one from me.....this gorgeous HUGE church was in a tiny town we passed through going to dinner Saturday night. (note: do you think the sky should be brighter? I toned it down to 240.... but it seems too gray, I liked it brighter)

and the original/color:

I would like to see it brighter, Amy. I would think that for a back and white, as long as you have your outlines, and they're not blending in, it would be ok to blow the whites. I could be way wrong though!
I love it Kerry. I never thought a hint of green works on a conversion, but this sure does!
Amy - I like it, I would love to see a little bit more contrast to it. I am assuming this is not sharpened?
I did several of these shots - trying from moody to flat. I will post some more tonight. This is my nephew. He has lighter brown eyes than my boys.

I'll probably be adding in multiples into this week's theme ;)

ETA: I forgot to put in my color version. Here it is, but no noiseware.

Steph, I love that shot!
Did I do better with these?

One more for tonight and off to bed. This one is a bit more moodier...

ETA: I don't always get cooperation.... I am getting a lot of these portraits lately...

Here's mine: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8052/...44b0c9b3_z.jpg and colour to compare (untouched): https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8235/...870cdef0_z.jpg He wouldn't cooperate, so compositionally his eyes are rather centered and I wasn't sure where to crop, but I like it anyway. It's a very "Micah" look.
And just to throw in a couple more, this one because it's so cute, after he won a game of Mouse Trap:

and this one because I really love the light here -- great for conversion, but taken last week so not technically 'valid' for the 52-week challenge:
