Project 52: Week 8 - Low Light

Thought we might want to try something different for our Week 8 project, which is LOW LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

According to Wikepedia: Low light photography or Night photography refers to photographs taken outdoors between dusk and dawn. Night photographers generally have a choice between using artificial light and using a long exposure, exposing the scene for seconds, minutes, and even hours in order to give the film or digital sensor enough time to capture a usable image. With the progress of high-speed films, higher-sensitivity digital image sensors, wide-aperture lenses, and the ever-greater power of urban lights, night photography is increasingly possible using available light.

Here is a great website that gives you tips on low light photography here

Have fun EVERYONE! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Here is my first try. These are not outdoor photos. But I used artificial light coming from the laptop.

El, great shot! pretty dang good seeing u only used the laptop light. You should take the same shot with your son laying on his belly feet up and crossed watching a cartoon movie on the laptop. Although u might have to pause the movie to get the shot. Just an idea:)

El! You're making this wait even harder! The closer it gets, and the more Mk III photos I see from you (especially the low light), the more I want that dang thing! This theme is coming a little too early for me Wink I'll definitely see what I can do though. I have one idea in mind. Hopefully I can get out there and get it done this week.

Tialee thanks for that idea.

Stephanie - I know when you get your MK3 you'll do wonders with it. ISO was really high, I think it was at 12800... yikes... lol. But DH was such a sport about it.

I got some really good (eerie) ones in the fall at night, but I've been so worn out lately even my regular photography has been falling behind.

Great detail in the moon! Love it!!

My idea didn't work last night because Ryken woke up Wink I ended up turning Sully's star lights on. My tripod broke, so I had to hold the camera. It turned out pretty bad, but here it is! lol Smile

LOVE the midnight snack shot and the moon has great detail.

I took this tonight and it conveniently fits the theme! My youngest fell asleep next to me while I was reading to my middle boy :love10:

when working before sunrise this morning, I saw some neat light spilling from my desk lamp to the bed behind me. So I stuck my angel (she always sits on my desk and watches over me) in a big puddle of the light and this is what I got:

I can't decide which crop I like best.

I still have something in mind for a "night" shot. Am hoping to get to it this weekend.

Very nice, Katie and Kerry! Gigi, I love that Biggrin I think I like the second one best. I like the light trailing behind the figurine.

Another from me. It's kind of boring, but I like it anyway

Very cool shots ladies. They are all so creative! El, I can't believe your ISO was so high! Kerry, those eyelashes are amazing! Gigi, I love the light on your angel.

Really cool shots in this one, wow!

I combined my need for a pollution photo for my local camera club with this topic, and got this:
Factory at Night

Not too exciting, but definitely low light, and I think the effect overall is kind of neat.

I mean, I have a ton of new moon shots from the past several days/week, but I wasn't sure that the moon qualified.

Amy, I think the moon qualifies, per El's definition... an outdoor shot with a long exposure.

I agree, Tracy. You could definitely use your moon shots, Amy!

Ok well thanks, except that I almost always shoot the moon at fast speed, when I am shooting just the moon (without any landscape)....but I also have some sunset photos I recently took with my iPhone, at Twin Lakes Park! Smile

So here are way too many pics LOL......guess I am making up for missing the last 1-2 weeks Sad

Struggled with this one, my outdoor shots didn't work, so I tried some indoors the only light is from my en-suite bathroom. What I like about it is the warm glow of the light, wish I had gotten better focus on her eyes though.
