Question re colou / colour casts

If black absorbs light, can it also still give a colour cast to subjects? Is the potential effect more or less pronounced then with brighter colours, say yellow, or the same.

I took photos of my friend last weekend. She was wearing a black jacket. In most shots everyone else looks well lit, natural colour yet in every shot her face seems to have a shadow / look slightly underexposed. Is this just my crappy skills of can you get a dark colour cast from dark clothing? For what it's worth, the photos were taken around 10am (near winter so sun only up a couple of hours and still reasonably low). I can't share specific images as I don't have her permission to do so.

Color casts don't work that way. It will only give color, not make things darker.

Thanks Amber. I thought that might be the case but then I got completely confused. Thanks for taking the time to answer

Yeah, it will just cast a shadow on your subject. When you can't use your environment to create directional lighting/shadows, you can use a deflector/black "reflector" to create that effect.
