DH and I took the boys fishing yesterday. It was foggy and completely overcast. How'd I do? I'm really trying to back up and not take so many shots of just their faces. That's probably why they hate the camera, I'm always in their faces!

Cute! On the first one, I'd watch the horizon, because it's going right through his neck. I've never really got a clear answer from anyone on if you have to chop with the horizon, where it should fall. I guess the rule is to have it above the head? Maybe someone else has the "answer".
I feel like they could use a bit more of a pop with the colors. They look just a bit washed out. But that may be exactly what you were going for![]()
Did you make Sully's hat? So so cute!
Steph- I'll have to play around with them some more, because I agree, they need more of a punch. I normally like shooting with an overcast sky, but it was hard yesterday! Not sure if it was the fog or just my settings were off. And yes, I made the hat![]()
Personally, I like the edits b/c it seems like a dreary, overcast fishing day! That is exactly what it was like when we took Randy. CUTE hat!
The dreary weather might take away from the 'punch' of the photo, but it DOES accurately reflect the reality of the day, right?
As for the horizon ... I've been told to keep it from running through vital parts of the body as it draws attention away. Also, in general ... you want horizon lines at either the top 1/3 or bottom 1/3 of the frame, but that is often hard to accomplish depending on the angle you are able to take.
I really love #2. The reflection of the trees in the water really grabs me. I think I'd like to see this in b&w as it seems like such a classic moment.
TFS!

I tried to edit them with a little more punch and didn't like the results. They're on my flickr if you want to take a look. I did #2 in B&W and love it!

YES! YES! YES! Love the b&w!

I love the black and white! I don't find the grass line through his body distracting in the slightest. I like the colours of the river and sky as I think it suits the type of day. It might be nice if the foreground had a bit more pop though
That second fishing picture is just adorable! No CC since I am at work on a laptop.
