Senior/Prom Shoot: CC welcome!! (More added in post #6)

Steph asked me to post some pics from the shoot yesterday, so here are some. I have a lot more to edit, but these are some of the ones I'm happier with.

I have to say, this shoot was very disconcerting for me. I'm new to all of this, so I'm not sure how I should've handled this, but it was not a good scene for a while. It was prom night and the mom who set this up wasn't there at the start, and no one else introduced me to anyone, then two of the guys seemed very keyed up and hardly listened (one of them is looking at someone else other than me in almost EVERY shot). I did my best to be authoritative and loud with my very scratchy voice from a bad cold, finally got them started in the first spot I picked, and next thing you know, I have three moms with smart phones all beside me asking the guys to "look here for a second". And I had one of the moms with a laundry basket full of props, "Okay, let's do this, what about using these picture frames? Let's get out the fake moustaches." Etcetera.

And if that wasn't bad enough, here's the really disconcerting part: I don't know who this person was, and neither does the friend who asked me to do the shoot, but there was another photographer there. She seemed to know what she was doing, though not a pro (of course, neither am I), but perhaps another friend of one of the other boy's families or something. Anyway, after a few shots, she started giving the guys orders. Not a word to me, and no one else said anything, even though Heather, the person who 'hired' me, had arranged with ALL of the families for ME to do the group shots. But seriously, after a while, I just had to stand back because she just literally took over. So weird. Heather would've said something, had she been there, but she wasn't there until later. Finally when I'd gotten a few good group shots, I just went to the boy whose family asked me to do the shoot, and took him aside on his own for some individual shots. Then his mom arrived with his GF and we were able to work with just the four of them while the other photographer, whoever she was, did her thing elsewhere. Just seriously crazy. Anyway. Here's some preliminary edits. I have many more to do yet! I may add a few more later if there are some I need some CC help with. I would value any CC you can give on these!

4. REALLY regretting his right hand position here, because otherwise I really like this.

5. Not the classic Corvette, but Brad's car is his pride and joy. Biggrin I have a pull-back with the whole car, haven't edited it yet.

Tracy- I think you are being too hard on yourself! For the circumstances, I think you rocked it! Seriously!
I don't really know what to CC here. Your edits look spot on to me. The color is the same in all of them- which is something I struggle with!

2. Is it really raining? Love this shot! Too cute!
4. You already said what I was gonna say, the hand position. I also though it looked a bit darker, but when I opened it up full size it looked fine.

Stop being so hard on yourself!

I'm with Sadie ... I think you handled it the best way possible and you already have some REALLY GREAT shots coming out of it!

For future situations ... with the rain like that, I would have LOVED to see a longer exposure, it has all kinds of fun effects with rain. We don't get rain around here that much, but have thought about trying it w/ a sprinkler or something.

I hope you get to share a few more of these b/c you are ROCKING it!

Best,
GiGi

Tracy, these look great and the family will love them. I don't know what to suggest if you ever have circumstances like that during a shoot. It is hard if you don't know who the other person taking photos was, but if they were just a hanger-on they were being very RUDE! At the same time, you don't want to put the subjects off by getting grumpy. The mothers taking photos on their phones would have annoyed me. I get they want to record the memories too, but if they are calling out for the boys to look at them rather then you then your time is being wasted.

Interested to see what those in business would suggest

These are fantastic, Tracy! I looked at them on the good monitor, and color and everything looked great to me. I'm sorry you had such a hard time with that other photographer. Wonder why no one said anything about another photog being there. Weird how things turned out. But you have some wonderful shots from it that you should be so proud of!

Aw, thank you SO much guys. I really worked hard on trying to get some good shots, and on the post-processing for colour and exposure, trying to ensure everything was OK. I am so grateful to hear they look good! The mom is crazy about them, and so is the grad.

I meant to add that I love that you caught a true smile from him in that last one. He was trying to be all cool and then it slipped! LOVE it!

I can see why Mom and grad are both so happy with these. I'll bet his date's family would love them as well! that last one is SO SWEET! I have tried to get something like that (w/ a pair of high school sweeties I shot a bout 18 months ago) and it just didn't come out. I also really love the family shot and again, I can see why they love these!

You did GREAT Tracy!
