Default Sharing my "session" with my kids - CC welcome (pic heavy)

We need to get to the pool, so I'm trying to get this posted quickly before we head out the door.

CC welcome as I'm sure I will try this location with them again in search of my canvas print worthy moment. We were there at 11am so the sun was BRUTAL. However, I tried to keep us in the shade, and ended up having to raise my ISO. I wish I had more catchlights. I did try to use my reflector a couple of times, but with four kids, I couldn't always get it out in time.

    1. First, I did a storyboard of my attempt to get a canvas worthy shot ... as you can see, it didn't really work.

    2. A conversion of one of the photos (used a cool action from My Four Hens on this one)

    Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture f/5.0
    Focal Length 28 mm
    ISO Speed 250

    3. My sweet Natalie

    Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture f/5.6
    Focal Length 28 mm
    ISO Speed 250

And a conversion of the same (does it work?)

    4. Girls on a fence

    Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture f/5.6
    Focal Length 38 mm
    ISO Speed 500

    5. I have several shots of them on the bench ... I wish that I had Andrew standing behind the bench leaning over the girls or something though. The composition is really lacking. But Jack willingly climbed up there so I went with what I had.

    Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture f/5.0
    Focal Length 28 mm
    ISO Speed 320

    6. I love how Jack's in the background here

    Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
    Aperture f/5.0
    Focal Length 35 mm
    ISO Speed 320

    7. This one was totally underexposed ... I was using the reflector to get more light in the shadowed side of him, as this was in full sun. I fixed it in ACR, and while it's not perfect, it's a capture of my oldest that I adore.

    Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1250)
    Aperture f/5.0
    Focal Length 35 mm
    ISO Speed 100

    Aug272010_0071 by coolmama72, on Flickr

    8. Another one I adore

    Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)
    Aperture f/5.0
    Focal Length 28 mm
    ISO Speed 500

    Aug272010_0087 by coolmama72, on Flickr

    9. I had this printed as a 5x7 for their room, just love this!

    Exposure 0.008 sec (1/125)
    Aperture f/5.0
    Focal Length 47 mm
    ISO Speed 500

    10. Jack by the fountains ... just a neat perspective IMO

    Exposure 0.001 sec (1/800)
    Aperture f/4.5
    Focal Length 70 mm
    ISO Speed 500

I like the 3rd image in the story board and it looks like Jack's had enough in the last one

#2 not really working for me as i can't totally see DS in the back. but I like the conversion.
#3 love. So sweet and i can see your reflection in her eyes. Prefer the colour version. Just a question, would it better for a shot like this to either have all grass or all brick in the background? Seeing the 2 different backgrouds like this seem off to me...could just be me though.
Lighting in #6 is nice too...love the clarity in her face.

#8-random arm bottom left. small piece of dappled light on his shoe...both i think easily clonable Great shot. Would print this for a keepsake

    #9-Sweet.

Kuddos to you for getting good shots with 4 kids...i can barely get one with mine!!

    Gwen ...

    1. I *really* love this one! Ah the joys of working w/ kids!!! Jack really cracks me up. I like the middle pic a lot. I love how Natalie grabbed him like that.

    2. I like this convresion a lot. You might try to boost the contrast just a tad, but I really like it! Gives the shot a true timeless feel.

    3. I like the conversion best. The color looks a little off (too yellow?) on my monitor here at work in the first edit.. I'm far from calibrated here though. This is a really sweet shot, Gwen. It goes to show you that there ARE times to break the ROT. She's mostly centered here, but it WORKS. The lines from the pathway lead you through the photo and everything moves you right to hear lovely eyes. GREAT JOB!

    4. The girls are adorable here! Exposure looks really good. there's a bright spot behind Jordan's right hand and slightly below. You might try burning that a bit as it draws my attention a bit. I love how the grate work looks like hearts.

    5. I like how Jordan and Andrew are both leaning in toward Jack. It's Natalie that's not quite right here. She looks separate. If her arm were around Jordan or such so that she was more tied to the other 3, I think it would feel more balanced. Having her where Andrew is and him behind them would also work. Good exposure and focus. Looks really good. This would make my desk.

    6. Goodness ... Jordan looks more and more like you all the time! I like Jack in the background too. I'd like to see this one in b&w or a chocolate b&w.

    7. I love this one, Gwen!!! I think the shadows add to the drama of this one. And again, this is another that I'd like to see in b&w. Can you believe our boys are nearly nine???? I still see in his face the baby from so long ago, but it gets harder all the time to see. :\

    8. I gotta admit, this is my favorite of Andrew in this set!!! The bright spot on his right shoot is a little distracting, but otherwise this one just GRABS me! You might try to clone out the hand in the bottom right, but that actually is pretty cute too.

    9. This one needs a scrapbook page!!!!! I don't have any real c&c for this one, but I do love it! I could also see it as a father's day or b-day present for Rich ... "Daddy's Girls" ya know. VERY SWEET!

    10. I do like the perspective on this one. He seem so small compared to all around him. I like how the fountain looks like it's spraying just over his head. I'll bet a shot like this near dusk would be amazing. The harsh sun takes away from it as-is.

GREAT SET GWEN!!!!!!! I always look forward to your posts.

    Take care,
    GiGi

YAY for a new post from you!

    1) That's just too funny. I have trouble with 2, let alone 4!

    2) another funny one. Love how cooperative they are! Neat conversion!

    3) I think I like the color better, but she looks so sweet!

    4) Two cute girls. I wish I could see more of Jordan's face.

    5) Comp isn't great, but yay for getting a pic of all 4 looking at the camera.

    6) love how Jack is in the pic, but it looks more snap-shotty. Maybe a tighter crop?

    7) I think I would like a tighter crop on this one as well. I don't mind the shadow as much.

8 ) LOVE, but I agree with GiGi, clone out the hand.

    9) sweet capture. Are they really close, or is that just for pics? They look a bit yellow maybe? Could be my computer.

    10) totally agree- neat perspective! What a neat spot too!

Aw, I love these! I don't have enough (i.e., any ) experience to CC these, but I really like them! I love the fountain one!! I really love those random, candid moments.

LOVE THEM! The story board is a riot! You can really get a sense of what it was like to be there with the 4 of them!

#8, at first glance I thought the arm was part of the tree! Awesome tree and great shot.

    #9, sweet!
#10, you really captured him in all of his glory playing with the water!

    Great, but they always are!

ETA: WOW, I have NO idea how you get out there with 4 kids to take pics alone. I have a hard time trying to take pics of 2 of them with DH's help! You're an inspiration, in more ways then one.

I think you had a fun session!!

    1. LOVE this story board!!! Oh my goodness, Jack makes me giggle
    2. Missing DS1 on here I like this conversion, though. I've been looking at My Four Hen's stuff. Looks neat.
    3. Natalee looks yellow (but then again, I'm not calibrated yet) I really like the BW, though.
    4. Cute one of the girls, but the trees in the background are a bit too busy for me.
    5. I like this shot!! I don't quite know what to do with the crop, I think you've done a nice job. But I think it's a sweet shot of all of your kids
    6. Sweet pic
    7. Cute, but the lighting seems a bit too harsh.
    8. Cute shot but the ground at the bottom seems too bright and the arm in the right hand corner is a bit distracting.
    9. LOVE THIS!!!
    10. GO Jack! Love how the water looks like it's raining on him

I forgot to mention that #3 was intentionally more yellow from an action I ran.

here she is without the action ... but I feel like she needs to be brightened up
