Short Introduction

Hi! I've been a lurker on this board for a little bit now and I just bought a Cannon Rebel t2i and a 50mm 1.8 lens (per someone's suggestion on this board-Thanks!). I love it. I've already gotten a few photos that I absolutely love. I would like to start posting some pics soon and become more active on the board, but I have to say, I feel like I'm reading another language sometimes. I have limit prior photography experience (2 college classes many years ago and I used to own a Canon Rebel 300,but never really USED it.)
Any suggestion where I can get maybe a quick tutorial on terminology?

Also, how do you post your pics? For other boards, I use Photobucket. Is that suitable for here?

Welcome Deirdre!!!

I think photobucket will work just fine for posting your pictures. A lot of folks use flickr, but not everyone.

I'm glad to hear that you are already having fun with your new camera and lens. That 50mm is one that so many love!

A lot of the terminology and stuff you can find by looking in the Tutorials sticky at the top of the board.

I can't wait to see what you have to share.

It's good to have you with us.

Welcome! Smile Can't wait to see your pictures!

A good place to start is to read your manual and just play around with your camera and see what each thing does. A good book to read is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. I have the book but have yet to finish it  But its a good one. There's also lots of tutorials if you just google them. I usually go over to ILP for tutorials but it can get a bit overwhelming at times. Just post some pics for CC and that's a good way of learning as well. Good luck! And have fun Smile

I have the 50mm 1.8 and I too am in love! I agree that the tutorials are a good place to start and the book Understanding Exposure- great resource!

Hope to see some pics soon!

I use flickr, but I am sure photobucket will work fine!

welcome! and we all started where you are right now, so don't sweat the terminology. as long as you're reading and learning, you'll pick it up. Smile I remember being so intimidated back when I got my XTi and I wanted to know everything all at once. the sticky is a GREAT resource, so do read that first. and I can't wait to see pictures from you!
