    Default Silly question...

I have been working with CS4 for about a year now and I learn something new everyday!
I am totally lost when it comes to layers and masking though. Can anyone guide me to a good tutorial about masking? I am just not sure how to apply a layer, then say mask the skin tone back or something like that.
By the way today is my daughter's first birthday and I took some pics of her to celebrate. I will be posting for CC later! I have taken pics 3 days in a row now, yay me! Of course I am on vacay from work, so that helps LOL.

Happy 1st Birthday! Can't wait to see pics. I am of no help with your question as I still have not ventured into that area! I am hoping someone has a good tutorial because I could use one!

I don't have CS4 but I did a quick search and found this among others...
    http://layersmagazine.com/better-mas...photoshop.html

But I use layers & masking with PSP also and it's easier to understand (& try on your own) if you imagine your photo being physically covered up with the layer, and then on that layer you start "erasing" (painting with black) the areas where you want the ORIGINAL to show through.

I would just google layer mask tutorial or search on youtube. It seemed so out of reach to me for the longest time, then once I learned I realized it was the easiest thing, and I used masks all the time now.

I can try to explain it if you can't find anything! Also, your avatar picture is very funny!

Ditto on searching youtube. Not sure if ILP has any tutorial, you might want to try there also.
