Wink Snapshot a Day (01/24) & Flashback Friday!

Well happy Friday everyone! We got a dusting of snow and sleet last night. Just a dusting, but it gave us a 2 hour delay to work and school. And even w/ that, the news is full of road closings due to accidents.

*sigh* the stereotypes about TX drivers in winter conditions are all true.

But I am enjoying the extra bit of sleep and the chance to see the rooftops white with sleet.

I'll bbl w/ my share for today and the week - gotta get Logan ready for school - but I invite you all to jump in and show the scenes from your week.

    Best,
    GiGi

LOL, GiGi, a dusting of snow closing the schools? It's like the difference between here and all provinces east of here. We don't close the schools for a dusting of snow, but if we get 4-5" we will close schools often. Whereas in Alberta and east, they need a LOT more snow than that to close the schools! But the difference is that if you're not used to a lot of snow, it causes accidents because people don't know how to drive in it as well, which is obviously the case in TX.

Steph......... sometimes looking at your pics makes me feel I will never be as good a photographer as I want to be. i.e. As good as you! I just love that other chair one, what a great smile. And you are the queen of directional light on this board now, I think.

I am sick again. Don't know what I will feel inspired to do for a snap, but I will try to be back with that later. I was hoping for a frosted leaf, but the weather warmed up suddenly and the frost is gone this morning. Darn!

Anyway, here's my FBF pics. Sorry so many this week. Just been very busy with playdates and birthdays and tons of stuff.

Nora and her cousin. (Tried vintage processing, not sure about it.)

For Katie, the shot she wanted to see in B&W. I am never very happy with my B&W's, partly because other people convert better than me, but also because I'm such a sucker for colour. Even my clothing is usually bright (reds, pinks, greens)... I loooove colour. But then I'm always envious of people who do B&W photos so beautiful! Makes no sense!

LOL, this one just sucks. It was OOF and then I played with it and did a tilt shift for fun, but it looks terrible. But, she IS my Super Reader, so here it is anyway!

Tracy, you are WAY too kind! Photography is a funny thing, because no matter how much you know, you always feel like you need to learn more. I'm still not where I want to be, but I try not to take what I know for granted, and step back and remember that I got into this to take better pictures of my kids. The snapshots are what it's all about. I want to remember the good times we have every day.

And on that note, that's what I always love about your images, Tracy! You have this knack for capturing the amazing times that your kids/family have. That soccer shot is great! Crappy lighting and all! And that Jenga shot? So perfect!! I looked at that and was like, "wooooooooooaaaaahhhh" lol! I think you did a fantastic job on your conversion, personally. It's just the type of shot to be converted with all the contrasting lights and darks. I'm like you. I prefer color images. But if I have some amazing light, or lots of lights and darks, I'll convert it. Katie is the queen of B&W!

Thanks, Steph, you're encouraging and kind. I do love that Jenga shot, it was a great time for the boys and it seems to be conveyed in that image!

Grabbed a snap of Nora on the way out the door this morning. Her hair is just getting long enough for a single ponytail, which she said is like a fish tail, and so she was making fish faces.

Oh Steph ... your photos always have such life to them! Some of that is bound to be due to the personalities you photograph, but you excel at capturing it! And BTW ... those mustaches just KILL me!

Tracy ... as Steph pointed out, you are being WAY hard on yourself! I love your nature and your lifestyle photos and your portraits are awesome as well! I'm sorry you are sick again, but your images sure have brought a smile to my day! I love that first one so much. I have a cousin who is 11 months older than I. We were always together growing up. She lives a good distance from me now and don't get to spend much time together. This shot of Nora and her cousin made me think of her. In fact, I think I'll call her when I get out of the office today. And I love the vintage processing. If this were a square crop, it would almost have a Polaroid quality to it. <3

    Here's mine for today:

not even enough to try to make a snowball, but at least I managed to scratch this into the bricks on my front porch.

And here are a few flash back shots:

Here's Logan trying to write his name on the other side of the porch:

and some berries on a bush in my flower bed:

this is Tori ... I think she looks like she is thinking "SQUIRREL!"

Loki perched on the sofa (he's such an odd little mutt):

Logan and his viola on orchestra picture day:

this seems to be about the only way I see Logan these days ...

he is making the most out of his Christmas present and spends all of his time learning web programming and going through math tutorials (he wants to test out of 7th & 8th grade math this summer so he can start algebra as a 7th grader next fall). Oh how I <3 my young man!

and finally ... this was our sunset the other day just before the cold and grey blew in:

I really went out too late, but I managed to catch at least a little of the truly lovely light.

Sorry so many ... I made a real effort to touch my camera this week.

    Best,
    GiGi

Steph- those mustaches are PERFECT! How fun! I too adore that one of Jackson in the chair! great shot!
GiGi- it's freezing here too. The main reason why all is shut down is the ice. Ice is just about impossible to drive on! Love the berry shot and go Logan go! I can imagine just hope proud you are!
Tracy- I agree with the others, you are too hard on yourself! I LOVE your photography! Loving those soccer shots!

I have a few more from the wedding:

Those are great, GiGi and Sadie! I love the Captain America shots, Sadie! And the ring shot is beautiful!

GiGi, hearing about Logan reminds me of a friend of mine who only had one son, but he was (is!) brilliant, talented at so many things and as smart as could be. Violin, soccer, programming, etc.? Wow! What a kid!

I hear ya about the cousin thing. I think cousin relationships are so special. My best friend has been the same since I was a child: a cousin of mine who is 10 months younger than me. She and I are literally "bosom buddies" and always have and always will be. I'm so thankful for the time my kids can spend with their cousins, and maybe the relationships won't be that close, but I want them to know, love, and cherish their cousins and appreciate that relationship.
