So frustrated with learning

Sometimes I feel I just shouldn't post here. You all are prodessionals and I just want to take nice pics with my Nikon D80!!!! I am getting so mad. I tried to take Easter egg dyeing pics and they were blurry or off color. I even used the meter and it was perfect. I was in manual mode and iso seemed good.

Any good websites for starters? I just don't seem to be getting it.

Oh, don't be discouraged! It takes a lot of practice! Please don't think that we're all professionals, because I, for one, am definately not! I just like to take nice photos of family and friends.

I'm in the middle of reading Understanding Exposure, and it is a fantastic read! So much information there, and it will guide you in the right direction. But honestly, I first started out right here on this photography board. I read the tutorials, and posted images for CC. It's the only way to learn.

Can you post some of your Easter egg photos with the settings? I'm betting you had your shutter speed too low to hand hold the camera. That's when I usually get blurry photos when the light meter says it's a correct exposure.

PLEASE don't get frustrated.

Let me ask this...are you toggling your focus points? It made a HUGE difference for me. It was so much easier. I have the D90. I would like to see the photos so we can go from there. What was your SS?

I totally get where you're at! I'm frustrated so often!!! Sometimes I feel like I'm making headway and then I try something and just totally fail. But I think the more I try, the better I get -- it's just sometimes slow improvement, but it IS improvement. The BEST thing for me has been to ask for CC here, as I have gotten a ton of help and am slowly learning!

Ooh, don't get frustrated!! I know easier said than done, but it's a lifelong journey, so you might as well roll up your sleeves!! We're not all pros!! I am definitely not! I'm just here to learn how to take better pictures of my family and my friends' families! And there is no better way than than to get on here for some CC.

I agree, can we see some of your stuff? Sometimes a minor adjustment suggestion makes ALL the difference in the world!

Now...please don't get discouraged. This IS a site for beginners. Just happens that some of us former beginners stuck around. LOL

I'm going to post one of the first images I posted to this board almost exactly 3 yrs ago.

I thought this was wonderful!

Then I started looking at all the photos here and got really dissatisfied with my own work. I posted and posted, and learned with each bit of CC I got. The best way to get better is to post what you're getting. You'll get tons of advice, you'll get angry when you learn that something you thought was great has so many problems...and you'll get better with each post.

If you're like me, you'll always be dissatisfied with your own product. Just yesterday I was perusing other photographer's sites to look at logos and I got that old familiar "I stink"..."why can't I be that good" feeling. Then DH reminds me that I've only been taking photos seriously for 3 years and I should be proud. It's SO hard not to compare yourselves to others.

I was going to say the same thing as Amber--this site is for ALL levels, so please don't be discouraged! Here's one of my early images too lol.

I am in no way in the leagues with the ladies above, but I just started a year and a half ago. These are my first images posted for CC. We all start off somewhere and if you put in the time, practice, and reading you'll see your progress Smile

Photography is such a learning process! We are ALL still learning here! It takes alot of time and patience and practice, practice, practice! I always try and make sure my settings are correct to have the shutter speed over 1/125 to try and reduce any blurriness. Post your pics when you have a chance and we all can help some more!

I'm not even a year into it yet, and just by posting and getting CC, I've improved so much. Post A LOT of pics - it truly helps!

I was going to upload some this AM since I saw DH put the card back in the camera but apparently he did not download them yet Sad I will get them posted.

Anyone use photobucket? That is what I use and I typically find they are huge when I upload them here. SHould I be changing the size?

I used Photobucket - definitely change the size though. I always change the biggest number to 500 or 600. The smaller number adjusts automatically.

I'd suggest switching to Flickr. It is SO much more friendly as it pertains to sizing. I could never get Photobucket to resize my photos for post.

I just wanted to say you're not alone in feeling frustrated! I'm a total newbie and I feel like I have such a HUGE learning curve ahead of me. It's so easy to look at other people's stuff which is infinitely better than my own and to be thoroughly discouraged. I'm sure I've never done anything that is really good on a technical level, but it is rewarding on the occasion that I capture something that I know will be a fond memory for me one day in the future. I'm just hoping that as I learn more, I'll be able to have more and more of those rewarding moments! Smile

I feel the same way! Just when I think I'm getting better, I'll look at a recent photo I've taken and think how horribly awful it is. I found reading the manual helped a lot and anything I didn't understand, I googled. Lurking on here helped a ton too. I know an extremely talented pro photographer who told me that even after 20+ years in the business, he still has days where he feels like a novice.
I second the recommendation for Flickr. I used to use photobucket but I ALWAYS had resizing problems. I've only been using Flickr for a couple of months but so far I love it.

I have not forgotten to post. DH has not download pics and I have been sick so the last thing I want to do is go downstairs and do it myself Sad I want to post soon though!
