Sorry I've been MIA this week. I've been down with the crud and am just beginning to feel better.
On the up side ... SPRING SOCCER HAS STARTED! Both of my boys are playing this spring. Loli plays on Saturdays and DH on Sundays. My camera and I are THRILLED!
Here are a few snaps from their first games (ok ... it's a bit more than 'a few'). It takes me a while to get back into the knack of shooting soccer, so I hope to see some improvement within a couple of games. But I'd love any suggestions from you guys!
All shots taken at 100 iso w/ my 18mm - 200mm VR. These shots sure leave me wishing for a faster, longer lens for soccer. *sigh*
1. f/5.6 ss=1/125 170mm
2. f/5.6 ss=1/200 200mm
It may be the mommy goggles here, but I love this one. They're talking strategy and you can see just how serious they are about it.
3. f/5.6 ss=1/160 200mm
4. f/5.6 ss=1/160 170mm
5. f/5.6 ss=1/125 200mm
6. f/5.6 ss=1/200 135mm
7. f/5.6 ss=1/160 200mm
8. f/5.6 ss=1/250 200mm
does the tilt work here? I'm not a big fan of tilted compositions. And this shot isn't a stellar shot to begin with. But I'd appreciate the feedback.
9. f/5.6 ss=1/250 200mm
another slight tilt. I didn't want to straighten it b/c I didn't want to cut out any more of the ball in the process. I love this pic and not b/c it's great. If you look at DH here and compare it to DS in #4 above you'll see a very similar look. In fact, I loved the fact that they both look so much a like when playing defense that I put this collage together:
These are awesome! No mommy goggles - that serious shot is too cute.
I really think that if you wanted to, you could have a future career in sports photography. You really do it so well.
And I just have to add - spring soccer?!!! We're in the middle of another freaking snowstorm. UGH!!!!!

those are great Can't wait to see more as the season goes on.
I just signed ds for his first "league" this week but it's just the Under3 program so no games or real games. I wish I had a longer lens I only have my 35 and the kit 18-55

Man, you're good at that. I'm so bad at capturing action.

I'm with Esti, there's snow on the ground, I can't even imagine soccer!
I'm always a fan of your action shots.
I love the tilt in 8 ... in fact, it's one of my favorites in the set. There's something that really appeals to me about it. And the collage is cool! I've never seen Carlos with so much facial hair, I have to get used to that. I love Loli's intensity, and you captured it well!
