Speedlight Practice

I got my speedlight in June last year and havent liked it very much at all. Mostly cos me and technology are not friends and I just dont get all the settings and how to use it properly but I am trying.

However, why have a nice piece of equipment and not learn how to use it?

So anyway my first few attempts were horrible. But I think I am improving.

Feel free to pick them to bits. They are the first ones I have taken in a while and where they are actually in focus.

Oh and for the record... husband and puppy!

SOOC except for sharpen and crop. Oh and I replaced the background in 1 & 2

Thanks

Cazz

I agree, the catchlights look good, not flashy....I'm not an expert but just based on what I know so far....:)

good for you for learning that speedlight. where were you bouncing the flash off of?
the last pic, the eyes look overdone to me, did you touch them up in PS?

Do you use a diffuser cover over your speedlite, anyone? Does it help make better catchlights?

I was bouncing it off the cupboard behind me. its laminate and a light cream colour so has some shine to it.

I dont have a diffuser but have thought about getting one.

I use to go nuts on eyes in PP(does everyone go through that?) but now I try to do as little as possible. Maybe I just oversharpened the whole picture a touch! I don't know!! UGH!

Still learning, just wish it wasnt taking so long!

I don't think his eyes look nearly as overdone as some others I've seen recently.

p.s. your dog is adorable Smile

The lighting looks good to me ... but his face seems more red in the first two, and I feel like his arms are getting more light than his face.

And I do think most people go through the overdone eyes stage at one point or another. but I can definitely tell they were touched.

hooray for practice!

get a cheap diffuser, you can get a decent one for $5 online.
