    Default speedlite?

I'm looking to order a speedlite for my camera. I'm thinking I will need to get a book or DVD or something as well, because I have no idea how to use one.

My main question is...do I need to buy anything else in order to use this? Any cables or attachments or anything like that? (Hahaha, can you tell how clueless I am?)

And if anyone is really bored and wants to comment, does this look like a good deal?

you should not need any thing else in order to use the speedlight. It'll fit right on top of your camera. I would, however, suggest 2 sets of rechargable batteries for it. These things go through batteries pretty quickly and it BITES to get stuck w/ dead batteries.

I'm a Nikon girl, so I can't comment on the price for the Canon speedlight. Seems reasonable to me though.

    Good luck!

can't comment on canon either and like gigi said unless you want to do off camera you don't need anything. One thing I'd suggest is reading the speedlight lessons on ILP (it's LONG). I still haven't gone through it all but the main thing I've learned is to set my speedlight to 1/4, 1/8 at least rather than full (not only will your batteries drain slower but it will be ready for the next picture much much quicker

Hmmm...might be leaning toward the 430 now...

I have the 430EX and it works great for me. I have a video but I haven't watched yet ... and I've had it for 1.5 years (the video, that is). I keep meaning to watch it ...

Get a diffuser, just a simple $6 plastic one to go on top to soften the light.

I second Gwen's suggestion of a diffuser!! I have seen the difference one makes and will be hunting one down for my speedlite. I have a generic one, so it's hard to find.
