Taking the plunge: PIC HEAVY

After being helped with my grandma's picture and welcomed to post, I thought maybe I'd try to be brave and take the plunge and share some pictures to introduce myself and show "where I'm at" photographically speaking. These are some pictures I've taken in the past year or so... it's kind of representative of what I like to shoot but I will say that MOST of this pictures represent the best of my skills -- which means that I have a LOT to learn yet.

To start, these are my kids (Nora, turning 4 in three weeks, and Micah, just turned 2 yesterday):

I really love to TRY to take scenic landscape shots, macro stuff, etc., but I'm just not very good at them. I get so tired of taking my camera out and then coming home and going, "Ugh!" Here's a few, most of these among my better results:

(awful blue fringing and tone to this one -- good example of where I thought I had a great shot and then when "ugh" to colour, composition, everything)

Sorry so picture-heavy, but I figure if I'm going to dive in here and try to learn, I should start off showing where I'm at!

BTW, I use a Canon PowerShot S5.

I sure hope I can learn from you all -- you are simply amazing!!!

Hey there! So glad you decided to post! Smile Looks like you are off to a great start. Your kids are so cute Smile I like his smile in #8. and #9 so cute! In #5 (i think?) how can she be in short sleeves and there's snow everywhere? Whenever I look at snow I think freezing cold...brrr! Lol Very nice location though! Looks like you have an eye for things Smile Continue posting here and you'll learn a lot. I sure have! Thanks for sharing your photos! They are great.

That was taken on a very warm day in late July, but it was so high up in the mountains that the snow hadn't melted yet. (For anyone from Washington State, this was right off the upper parking lot at Mount Baker.) So even though there's snow everywhere, it was actually a very warm day and apart from snow boots, we were all in short sleeves and totally comfortable. I get asked that question often about that picture though!

that's awesome! Smile I've been living in Norway way too long Lol It's super cold here for me. and I come from Colorado! But winters are never this intense in CO. At least the snow disappears in CO. Here it lasts all winter long. I'm so lucky Wink I love sunny winter days!

Welcome and good for you for posting.

Is the background in #5 real?! That looks AMAZING! I think you could work on your composition. With people, you really don't want them standing in the center of the frame. It's great to get a little off center. #11 could have been better if you squatted down lower. That vantage would be more interesting.

Keep at it and can't wait to see more!

Yes, it's real and it's one of the most beautiful spots I know!

Right. I know about the rule of thirds and I do try to do that, but sometimes I forget. Need to work on that.

Good point, that'd have been a better shot -- thanks!

Thanks! But these are my favourites from thousands of shots, I'm sure, so for every one "good" one (good by my standards, not-so-hot by a pro's standards!) there's sooooo many more bad ones. I guess that's one of the things I want to work on, is taking GOOD shots CONSISTENTLY.
