I finally found a field. I'm so excited! My town is on the ocean and it's foresty and goes up from the ocean in a hill. The only fields I have found have been private pasture, so I've been desperate. I discovered an old overgrown golf course right in town. I knew it was there, but never checked it out because it just didn't cross my mind. LOVE! There's even a big ol tree there, which is as close as I'll come to the lone field in a tree.
I've been working on backlighting without a flash. I'm really trying to shoot as I see a scene, something that I learned at the Red Leaf Workshop. That means embracing blown out backgrounds, if that is what it looks like that day!! It's hard work trying to balance backlighting without the haze - if anyone has any tips, I'd love to know~
So these are shot in harsh morning bright light. All backlit and very warm!
That's great!! I would be happy too, I've been wanting to find a nice field, maybe it is right under my nose waiting to be discovered too
I love #7 (i think!). It just reminds me of a painting.
Out of curiosity, how would these print? Did they talk about that in the workshop? I am only curious because I have a few photos that I blew parts of on purpose in pp and am wondering how they will print.
They should print fine (I think!). In all of them, I added a really slight colour/texture layer to take out the completely blown areas and add a bit of tone to them. I saw quite a few prints that Richard and Amy showed us (from Red Leaf Studios), and they were beautiful. I'm going to get some printed soon, so I'll let you know!

4 and 7 are to die for!
Those are great! I think that type of photo is definitely a personal style and certainly not everyone will like it, but I do! I really like #7, looks kind of magical or something!
BTW - Congrats on finding the open field, it looks perfect!
I came back to look again. And btw, when I wrote the I think by my #7, I meant that I didn't know if I counted right not that I didn't know if I liked it.
But anyway, the reason that I came back was to try and figure out how you metered these?
I so wish you'd number these so I could reply on specifics. But I'm loving the field! Looks like you had a lot of fun photographing her there.
the last one just seems way too bright to me, but that's the only one I'm terribly critical of.
