My laptop is on the fritz. Plus, I know it's best to use a desktop. With that being said, I have a Best Buy card and Randall and I both agreed it might be best. Any tips or advice? I don't want to spend TONS of money by any means. Just something that will get the job done. If I am used to a laptop, anything will be better right?! LOL!
Ditto!! I need a new one BADLY!
My cousin is a computer guy so he's checking Best Buy for me. He said he would get one with a quad core and at least 4megs of ram. I am STUPID when it comes to computers, so I am having him look online, giving him a price range, and he's going to give me some he thinks would be good! My laptop is HOPEFULLY getting fixed today. Great time for it to quit- WEEK OF FINALS!
Good luck with the search! I've been pretty happy with my Dell XPS laptop. Their warranty is awesome too. My old laptop fell off the couch while open and broke the screen. They fixed it free of charge! Even though it was my fault! I was incredibly surprised at that. We definitely got the extended warranty on this one.
I need a new computer too. We've had ours for 3 1/2 years and it's took a beating. It also doesn't have that much memory and gets really slow every time I use Lightroom. I end up having to turn it off and then back on every time to avoid it. I do LOVE Macs though, so that would be my vote
See, I don't think I am a MAC person. Here at our school where I work, I have played with PS on the Macs, and I HATE it.
I was looking at specs the other day too and what I read was 4-8 gb RAM (the more the better!! That is my MAIN problem, my computer is from 2004 and runs EXCRUCIATINGLY slowly when I have anything open more than email lol), dual core or quad core processor, 512k video card, 500 gb minimum hard drive, and about a 22" minimum monitor size....and of course dvd burner and external storage/hard drive/backup system.
When I was pricing one at Dell.com I noticed that their customization pages have become MUCH more technical than they used to be and I didn't know WHAT they were talking about on some of the options/choices. It never used to be like that. But I do love Dell.
DH just got a macbook. I can't use the darn thing! Just a bit ago, he needed me to grab something off of it and send it to his email, and I couldn't figure out where to look for it, and I couldn't scroll the darn thing. lol! He tried to talk me into a mac when we bought this computer, and I'm glad I refused. I can get the mac programs on my PC, I need a Stephanie friendly setup Some would probably disagree with me and tell me that a mac is more user friendly. But I tell ya, I've tried using his computer a few times, and I literally can't scroll. There's something weird with my fingers or something...
I'm no help on WHAT computer but i will say that i LOVE our HP desktop! It came with lightscribe too which has been awesome for making very cheap fully custumizable cd's for clients. I think it look nice and professional without having to order anything.
On a side note...i have used a few MAC programs and can't STAND them. I don't think i'll ever own a MAC and the only reason we ever had a MAC program was for our iPod. 2 years later it still tries to get us to update the program that we haven't used!!
Glad to know I am not the only anti-Mac person! LOL! I just struggled with it. I am just an oldie I guess!
