thoughts on a pink background ...

First, I know I haven't been on top of threads here over the past few days. Sorry about that, just have been super busy. Was supposed to do an adult shoot today but the weather blew that for me. Sad Not sure when that will happen. And the painter loved my portfolio ... but they just had pictures done a couple of weeks ago. They want family photos but not for a few months. So I need to move on to someone else to propose a barter with. So that's a quick update.

I'm taking this little girl's 4 year portraits tomorrow. She's my daughter's BFF, and she's just a cute little stinker. This is my first time using this pink background (set it up for today, and she wanted me to take pictures immediately - but the real shoot is tomorrow). I used my gray card because I wanted the WB to be right, but I'm seeing a lot of pink on her face. I'm already committed to the pink (her mom likes it, and it totally agrees with her personality). But I'm wondering if I'll be dealing with casts ...

My plan is to pick up 4 balloons - two pink and two white - to use as part of the session. I'm shooting with all natural light. I'm also going to pull her farther from the background - it's a velour and I really don't think I want the texture showing so much.

The hard part is getting her to look at me ... funny kid!

And here's one where I pulled some of the magenta out ... but now does it seem too yellow on the skin? There's so much pink going on, it's hard for me to tell. Editing tomorrow's session is gonna be a challenge, I can feel it!

Can't comment on color, but as you already mentioned, you need to pull her away some more, and then hopefully you won't have to deal with as much color cast either. Good luck on your shoot tomorrow!

The second pic does have less pink/red, but I do see a little bit of yellow. Now take that with a grain of salt because I am NOT good with color and I'm at work which my monitors here SUCK. Good luck and I hope the weather holds out for you soon for your adult shoot. And good luck with the barter. Too bad they JUST had pics done Sad

Gwen, glad to see you posting! We all understand that you are super busy.

As for the pink, it's too much for me, maybe if they aren't so close, but if the mom is happy, than that's all that matters right?! Biggrin She is super cute girl! Can't wait to see what you come up with. I am ZERO help with color casts b/c I am clueless, sorry.

It is verrrrrrry pink but it's fun and something different and the Mom likes it. Hey it's for her birthday after all!! Who says you have to be boring LOL! I would try to blur the texture of it though too. Funny how she doesn't look at the camera!? lol

I really like the hot pink, but I would be afraid to process that! What a challenge. Good luck Smile

I think the pink background could be really fun!

OK, I have a few ideas, but none are sure to work...
1. It you have a non-reflective flooring to put down under her...
2. Use a white reflector (instead of metallic) angled up
3. Go outdoors... or even to the edge of the garage so the color isn't bouncing off walls/ceilings/floors

or the ultimate cheesy (but mom might love it) pink toned editing to play it all up?

Can't wait to see how it turns out.

oh, those are good suggestions! but I'm already done. I haven't gone through them yet. I did do a background change in the middle so that I'd have some easier ones to edit. Wink I'm dying to review them all!
