Default too good to pass up?

I just came across this lens for under $200 and I need to know from you ladies, is this too good to pass up???? I am SOOOO longing for a 300mm lens....should I skip this and save up for a Canon brand instead, or is this worth it?

Please please let me know what you think!!!

Personally, I would personally hold out for a lens with a wider aperture. I have an 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-6.3 and at the long ranges, I am often dissatisfied with having to use the higher aperture.

I understand wanting the length - I would *really* like something that goes to 30mm too.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

I have that exact lens (Nikkor, not Sigma), but I don't use it very often. I'll be hauling it out tonight to try for some lunar eclipse pics, though.

It's awfuly large and heavy to use as a portrait lens, and if you don't have anyone in your family involved in sports, you might not see a need for it too often. I sometimes wish DH had spent the $ he spent on that lens on a fisheye and a polarized filter instead.

Yeah I guess I didn't think about the ap when considering the price...the Canon one isn't much more $. But any wider and we're talking thousands of dollars. Darn.

Krista, I'm excited about the eclipse too! I hear it's between 2am and 4am though yikes!
