I'm ready to upgrade my Rebel XTi to the 50D ... but I can only do it if I can sell my Rebel with the kit lens fast.
If you've upgraded, did you buy the new camera first then sell the older one? Where did you sell it?
I can't be without my camera, so I definitely want to buy first. But money being what it is, I'm tempted to buy the 40D instead of the 50D because of the price difference. I don't know what the future holds in terms of upgrading after that. I don't know if I will ever go into business, so I am not thinking along those lines. But I know I've outgrown the XTi and I have no idea if I will outgrow the 40/50D. Would love to hear from others who have been here.

I would have a hard time dealing without a camera too b/c you never know how long it will take you to sell it. I just hope you get the camera you want when you want it! GL! KUP!?

I purchased the T1i before I sold my XT. Once I realized I wanted to upgrade, I posted an ad on craigs list. I got a few bogus replies and some that wanted to under cut the price WAY more than I was willing. But, I actually got a college student to offer exactly what I was asking. It was more than I paid for the kit, but I posted higher because 1) I got a GREAT deal on the thing from ebay and 2) I figured anyone on craigs list was going to try to talk me down in price and I wasn't willing to get less than I paid for it (in October).
Good luck on your purchase. I'm kind of wishing I had gotten a used 40D instead of the T1i. But, DH would REALLY kill me if I changed my mind now

When I upgraded, I needed the money from my original camera before I could upgrade. As soon as I had a for sure deal, I purchased from Amazon and there was literally a gap of 2 days that I didn't have a camera--although I had my trusty point and shoot just in case. I guess it just depends on whether or not you have the money up front or not. If it were me, I'd hate to be stuck with 2 cameras, but again, money is tight around here. Good luck with your decision!
Have you checked the Buy/Sell on ILP? They usually have gentle used cameras there. You can also post your camera for sale there. I loove my 40D, I have heard that the 40D is a lot better than the 50D, that there were issues etc. Not sure if that is true or not. But if I am ever going to get a new camera, 40D I will keep as my backup.
