I have had a lot of people asking me to take photos and who am I to knock back a chance to break out the camera. The thing of it is, I work full time and going out to see people on the weekends, well there are so many hours in a weekend.
So I have decided to have a 'portrait weekend' at my house. I sent out invitations to everyone via facebook and made appointment in 30 minute blocks for some mini session style shots.
I'm setting up the big light filled two window rumpus room with backdrops, cushions, stools, lights etc and going from 9:30am till 4:30pm on both days.
This is just going to be soooooooo much fun and hard work but I'll love it and the experience that it will be as well.
Then on the other hand half the time going through my mind is "what have I done"
So opinions.... crazy idea or good idea???
Personally, I think it sounds fun and exciting!!! It always amazes me how different it is to photograph people who WANT their picture taken (unlike my family)!
I do a day of mini sessions like this at the judo and muay thai places about once a year and while it's a TON of work, it's more than worth it for me. I know it'll be a great experience for you too!
My one tip is to remember that these are MINI SESSIONS! don't try to take 100 shots of each group/person. I fall into this trap and then end up taking ages to get everything edited.
Have fun, Cazz and be sure to share some of your favorites with us afterward!
I think your idea is crazy, but I think you will learn a lot from it, don't forget to have fun with it. Hope you get some great shots to share out of it.
