I have been reading lots of stuff on ILP and other sites for the past two days. (histograms, skin tones, levels..so much other stuff). Been trying to piece it all together. I think it has helped me don't you think? Here is a before and after.![]()
This is before I knew all the information I know now. I thought this looked good! Well, not good but I thought it was the best that I could do. uhh yeah ..
here is the histogram that goes with it
clipped on both ends! arg! lol I didn't know what this meant!
and then today i decided to go back and edit this pic from scratch.
my new edit after taking what I learned and using it. What do you think? It's not perfect but it's a start right? and i tried my best to remove the color cast on her right cheek.
histogram that goes with it
like i said, not completely perfect but it does look better don't ya think? I am learning how to read histograms! so proud of myself![]()
any comments would be appreciatedI could probably go back and add a bit more contrast but i'm scared of contrast at the moment. lol

eta: added a bit of contrast. I know what to do next time. I think I went a little too far in one step.but lesson learned!
Good job L. The best thing is that you're learning. Heck, I still have a hard time with my histogram the majority of the time. I mean, I know what it means, but I'm not the best at applying what I know if that makes sense. And I love seeing the color in her eyes now. Great improvement!
Wow, look at the difference it makes to her eyes! Well done you! I have yet to read the bit about histograms...I'm scared, lol! I only found out that I could see blinkies & the histogram on the LCD on my camera the other day...D'oh!
thanks Kelly!I'm learning a lot from that Damien guy over at ILP. He sure knows his stuff! dang
Kerry, that stuff is very helpfulI had to turn off the highlights cuz they were annoying me but I think i'm going to turn them on again. And yes, I was scared too before diving into the whole histogram stuff but once you start learning you can't stop
and everything gets pieced together. It's great! I am so anxious to learn more.

btw.. that's how norwegians eat their hot dogs. It's a lømpe. It's basically like a tortilla but its made out of potato flour. It's good I guess. I've gotten used to it. lol
Loida, you have applied what you learned really well. I like the edit. The only thing I would add is a bit of contrast.

Just chug-chug-chugging along.
that's great!
but I'm not used to seeing her eyes that light.![]()
I need to do more reading and applying myself. there's so much to remember!
that looks great
Do you have a particular part of the ilp board you like or do you just search what you're looking into? Only thing I've searched so far is speedlight. The view new posts moves too fast for me haha

right now i'm just going through the tutorialsthere's lots of info there from various people. It's great! I've learned a lot just by reading those threads. And putting everything together.
Now that i've sat on this all night I think I went a teeny bit overboard with the eyes. I won't do that next time.I'll try adding some contrast to this picture now.
I have been reading through the tutorial sections specifically for PP & retouching, but they pretty much cover everything from shooting to workflow & blogs
