When you buy...

When you buy backup batteries and chargers do you stick with your camera's brand name? I did buy an off brand charger one time and now one of my batteries seems to have some kind of charging issue. So do you all stick with the name brand? Or is my problem just some kind of fluke thing? TIA!

I haven't bought any more batteries for this camera yet. The camera was second hand and came with 4 batteries, 2 are Nikon, the other 2 are not. I have not had any isues, or with any of the other non brand batteries I have bought for other cameras I have had.

I haven't had to buy any. My battery lasts a long time, so I have been lucky.

I have one backup battery for my T1i and it's an "off" brand that my hubby purchased when he bought the camera etc. and it's worked just fine. I can check on the brand if you want.

That would be awesome! Thank you!

I used and off brand when I had an extra battery with my T1i. It didn't give me a single problem, held a great charge just like the canon.

ETA: If you do get an off brand, I heard it's good to get the same capacity as your original batter or more. What I read, it did not recommend getting anything lower.

OK my backup battery is a Dolica DC-LPE5 lithium ion battery pack, and it actually says "replaces CANON" right on the top of it lol.

Hmmm... I bet the problem is in my off brand charger, then. We lost our charger last year and I replaced it with a no name one, and now I have one (Canon) battery that will not charge. Oh, I should say that we then found the original charger so I have two. I will have to experiment with different battery/charger combos to see if I can figure out exactly what the problem is.

Amy, thanks for checking on that. I'm going to order one more backup if I can't seem to get that one battery to charge fully so I appreciate having a possibility to check into! And thank you for the tip on capacity, Jennifer! I wouldn't have known to look into that.

Thanks again for all your help, everyone!
