    Default Adding #2....

OK so I've been thinking about what we'll need. It's not really much considering it's another boy born the exact same season. But for you mom's of 2+ what are your favorites for 2 little ones?

    Examples:

Strollers. I want a double, Evan is pretty content 90% of the time in the stroller so I know we'll need a double b/c at 2 if we do anything major he'll still need to ride. But we don't use it a TON so while I think things like the Bugaboo Donkey look totally awesome I'm not about to drop $1200 What are your favorites and why?

Bedrooms. Ugh. I'm a little hesitant to give up our spare bedroom. It's nice to have. BUT I am NOT a cosleeper. Evan was in his crib at roughly 6 weeks. I like my kiddos to sleep in their own room. So I'm thinking we're going to need to give them each their own room....b/c at 6 weeks I can't be going in and out of them rooming together. But....I was thinking about just kind of rearranging the spare room with a crib etc but not making it a total nursery leaving the big bed in there and then once baby #2 is STTN etc having the boys share. I feel a little guilty though....but we won't be finishing the basement right away and the extra space in that room is nice when we have people like the dog sitter she has a place to sleep! Anyone have thoughts? I so wish we had 4 bedrooms! My only complaint with this house 2400 sq ft which overall is plenty of room but only 3 bedrooms!

Hm any other tips or ideas for a toddler and a newborn? It's not like I don't have time to plan but hey might as well start

stroller: I have a Maclaren Twin stroller. You can get one new $250 or so. I found mine on craigslist for $150.http://www.albeebaby.com/maclaren-tw...al-silver.html
It's basically a double umbrella stroller. It's not super light, mine is an older model around 30lbs, but I can push the big guys in it as long as the hills aren't too bad. (That's me pushing my own weight boys+stroller.) It stears well even with a heavy kid on one side, it holds 50lbs per seat, has decent baskets under the seats, either side can fully recline independently. Mine can with infant head rests and a rain cover and attachable snowsuit like things which would be great for a newborn. I used that a lot with Alex. It folds pretty small. Not super easy to carry, but I'm a short weakling. It does fit in the car easily. If you want o know anything else, just ask.

    2. I say, put him in the spare bedroom or hall or something until he's sleeping okay then make them share.

ETA: it's amazing how well kids can sleep. Raymond will sleep through Alex falling out of bed and screaming. Alex will sleep through Raymond's nightmares. They rarely wake each other up accidentally. I would move Oliver in with the others at 6m except that Raymond started climbing in the crib with Alex and I definitely don't want him doing that with such a little guy.

Thanks Virginia! I was hoping you'd chime in That was a stroller I was looking at it looks good for what we use strollers for. We don't use ours a TON - I don't need something that is super fancy or super good on all surfaces. But I do want it to be functional, relatively easy to use and carry and good for both ages!

That was what I was thinking with the sleeping. We could arrange the spare room so the crib fit and then when STTN just move them together. Baby #2 wouldn't know it was missing out on a new room LOL I do feel a bit guilty but I'd get over it

We just have the duoglider. I wouldnt feel guilty about not giving him a new, fancy room.
Evan slept in a laundry basket his first 2 nighs home because we left the pack n play at grandmas since she hold the older boys while I was in the hospital. Right now, the older two boys share a room (we gave them the master) and Evan has his own because I didnt want to wake the others. I'm thinking once he is consistently sleeping through the night they might all share a room and we'll make the extra a play room or have another baby. Hopefully someday we will buy a bigger house.

Mine have been known to sleep in a pulled-out dresser drawer when visiting my parents.

I like giving the kids their own bedrooms, we had to change a few things when I was pregnant with Natalie so that she would have her own space. I would love a 4 bedroom house that way our office wouldn't be in our dining room area like we have set up now (we never used the dining room).

I found the bassinet was wonderful for Natalie the first few months she could be in our room but not in the bed, though many nights we co-slept just to get some sleep.

Katie, I took some pics of my boys in the double stroller while we were at the zoo today. I'll try to get them up soon.

I went to Babies R Us to "test drive" the maclaren before I started looking for it on Craigslist. It was nice to try ot out, see how heavy it was and how it folded, and all. You could probably even try putting Evan in one side to see how it steers with a big weight differential.

    Here you go

Oliver resting in the stroller while the big boys walk. There are 4 or 5 recline settings. This is around the middle.

back of the stroller. Today the stroller was packed as follows: One pocket has: 2 diapers (size 2 and 6), some wipes, and sunscreen. The other pocket has some snacks and a burp cloth. It's easy to leave stuff in those when the stroller is folded. The basket under the reclined side of the stroller has: the rain cover (folded) a bicycle lock, a lunchbox, an umbrella, and a water bottle. The basket under the non-reclined side has: a mei tai carrier, a diaper bag (backpack), and a water bottle. i discovered today the the front of the basket can be easily unsnapped to access things right under the seat.

Raymond hopping in for a quick break, Oliver reclined back to the 2nd lowest setting.

Raymond and Alex riding as we left the zoo (Oliver wanted to ride in the Mei Tai)

somehow I didn't get a picture of Alex and Oliver, our most common combo, but you get the idea. My stroller was used when I got it and has been through some heavy use by us. It needs some cleaning and a couple snaps and pieces of plastic (to keep the hoods rounded) have broken over time, but it's still completely functional. Just some aesthetic issues at this point.
