    Default April Chat Thread

I suppose we ought to start on April since it's the 2nd now, haha. Can't believe I'm having a baby next month (honestly, I think it will be this month, just a hunch)... Wow!

    Wow, April already!?

Mary - yay it's almost baby time! lol at the crying, I think we all get that way in the end.

Virginia - Sorry about all the potty issues. That would be so frustrating... Yay for a new jogging stroller!

AFM - I think I'm going to stop pumping at night. No real supply issues, per say, but sometimes Benjamin doesn't eat the greatest. I've been giving him one 4-5 oz bottle every evening for awhile, which means me pumping before bed, after Benjamin eats in the middle of the night, and first thing in the morning after he eats to get the extra milk. If he has this one bottle per day he gains weight okay - about 4-6 oz per week (I make little babies, heh), but if he doesn't get this bottle he tends to gain 2-3 oz per week, which is just too little... However, lately now that he's older he's nursing a lot better and looks like he's filling out more, so I wonder if that's true anymore. I don't go see the LC weekly for weigh ins anymore, so I won't know until our 4 mo appt at the end of the month. I may keep pumping until that time, just to see where his weight falls, and decide whether to keep pumping in the middle of the night or not. It just doesn't seem worth it since I pump right after feeding him. Most nights I only get 1-1 1/2 oz because he eats so well. Every so often I'll get more if he's extra sleepy and doesn't nurse as well... So you can imagine how frustrating it is to be sitting downstairs awake every single night when I'm getting so little.

I am considering just dropping all this pumping business, though. Not all at once, gradually, for obvious reasons. It's just so much for work a grand total of 4-5 oz. The thing is, he eats quite well. Lots of gulping, tons of wet diapers, regular poopy diapers, etc. I think I just make babies with a really good metabolism. Xander was the same way, just a slow gainer. So really I should just stop worrying about it unless he falls off the charts or something, which I don't think will happen.

Yay for April, now some tell Mother Nature I don't appreciate all this SNOW! Seriously!

Nothing new to report, didn't get to see my dad yesterday cause my mom was sick (nothing serious), she took the day to rest. Should be going and seeing him today. I know it sounds odd but i want to talk to him even though he is sedated, let him know i love him and miss him, we normally visit my parents house every couple of weeks. I know it probably will do more for me then him but anything to help.

Natalie went to a sports club yesterday, they do 4 sports over 10 week, she really enjoyed it, this week concluded the soccer section. The next two weeks are t-ball, followed by mini basketball then hockey. I put her in the sports club to see what she enjoys most, I'll enroll her in what she likes most over the summer.

Lauren: kuddos for getting up to pump at night for this long! I'm 99% sure I would never stick with it this long, but I'm a baby and need my sleep at night!!

Mary: can't believe baby day is around the corner for you! I wasn't pregnant yet when I signed DD up for preschool last summer and still got a bit choked up. That being said, preschool was the best thing I've done for her and her social skills have gotten amazing, aside from the actual stuff the learn about which I'm pretty impressed with as well. Sorry you're feeling under the weather today

Virginia: woohoo for a free jogger! GL with the clean-up. And yikes to Oliver not wanting to keep diapers on, sounds like a huge PITA! Hope you find a solution soon.

Amanda: glad to hear your dad is stable. Lots of positive vibes for him in his recovery

Katie: WTG Evan! We still don't have Brekke trained at night completely even though she's been day trained for like a year now. My DH wet the bed until he like 7 so we may have a long term issue on our hands with her; she'll do great for several nights in a row then fall off the wagon for a few. It's frustrating but what do ya do?

After a week, Dane is doing *okay* in his toddler bed. He has a hard time with the freedom and tends to get out and lay by the door and kick it. The last few days I've just let him fall asleep there and then move him into his bed. We're leaving town for a week on Sunday so I'm sure that'll just mess it all up again since I'll be putting him in a pack and play on the trip (no other option really). Oh well. Hopefully he'll have it figured out by the time the baby gets here. He sleeps in it great once he's asleep even if he wakes up at night.

Mary - are you going for the last day of the month again?

Ashley - you're getting pretty close, too! 31 weeks. wow.

Amanda - I hope you get to visit your dad soon. GL.

Lauren - Have you considered pumping before he nurses? That way you'd get milk easily and it would be the watery stuff. Sure he'd have to work harder, but it's easier for a baby than a pump to get the milk out. And he'd get the really good thicker milk.

ETA: any creative ideas for how to tell the kids? If things go well at the u/s Monday we'll finally be telling them.

Virginia - I am secretly aiming for April 30th, hahaha. It will certainly make it easy to remember all their birthdays if they're all born on the last day of the month, haha. Not that I should have any trouble with that since I'm a sentimental fool and remember dates for everything. April 30th also happens to be my parents' 30th wedding anniversary, so that would be extra cool.

I'm not sure on ideas for telling the kids. I can't even really remember how we told Sean. I think the first time we talked to him about it was early on when we were playing with the doppler at home... Explained to him that there was a baby in my belly and the sound was its heart beating. I still don't think Calvin entirely understands what's going on.

Lauren - Good luck with the pumping situation. I don't really look forward to it again. I've been dreading going back to work and pumping. I had a routine down in my old store for pumping at work, after doing it for 2 babies there. But being at my new store, I have to go through the whole "new and awkward" thing again. Blah. I guess I have a few months before I need to worry about that, but I hate it.

Ashley - Glad Dane is doing pretty well with his toddler bed. I hope you've got a good routine before baby comes. That's what we're trying to work on here, too.

Amanda - I hope your dad is doing better and that you get to see him soon.

AFM - Sick AGAIN. WTF??? We got to bed sorta late Tuesday night because the kids weren't cooperating. Finally got to bed, then I woke up at 3-3:30am feeling REALLY nauseated. I took some zofran and a pepcid, then went and laid on the floor next to the bed. Couldn't bring myself to get back in yet. DH rubbed my back a bit. Ended up with diarrhea.. Fun stuff. I figured I'd be okay, so I got up at 6 when my alarm went off, still felt sick, but got ready for work. It was too late to find someone to cover my shift. I felt like I was going to throw up, so I found an empty plastic shopping bag to take with me. It's a good thing I did... I made it close to work, probably 5-10 minutes away, and I had to pull off on a side street to throw up, OMG. So horrible!! Thank goodness for my plastic bag. I had already told my coworker I was sick and asked her to come in early. She said she could be there at noon, and I had told her that was okay. After I puked in the bag, I texted her back and told her what happened, said I don't think I can make it till noon. Thank goodness, she agreed to leave right away and made it there shortly after 9, so I was only at work for about an hour, and then today is my day off. I came home from work after that and literally laid in bed the rest of the day. I got up a couple times to pee and that was it. I slept most of the day and pretty much all night too. Ugh. Feeling better today as far as the stomach stuff goes, but still just drained of energy. I had a NST this morning, which I was glad about because baby was lethargic. Thankfully, he did well on the NST. The nurse commented that I had lost weight since my last visit, so I told her it was probably from being sick... I'm sure it was. I had only a few saltines yesterday and a little bit of water.

You could buy them a few baby things and let them guess the surprise? Like some tiny diapers, a pacifier, etc? Not sure if they would "get" that but it might be fun for them to open things.

Mary - I'm so sorry you're sick! That sounds absolutely awful. I'm glad the NST went well, though.

Virginia - I don't think we even really told Xander in any special way. Just started talking about the baby in my belly when I started to show. Whatever we did worked, because he seemed to know what was going on by the time Benjamin got here. lol As for pumping before I feed him, well he goes to bed at 6:30-7ish and doesn't wake up to eat until 3:30 am, so he eats pretty much everything I've got going on in there! That's why I only pump about an ounce... He seriously eats and eats and eats, so I don't really want to pump first and take too much out. More on pumping below...

Amanda - that sports thing sounds awesome! Glad Nat had a blast.

Ash - oh how sad about Dane lying by his door! You'll totally laugh about that years down the road, especially once he has kids of his own.

AFM - I didn't pump last night. I opted to bring Benjamin back into bed with us to nurse on-and-off all night after I fed him at 3:30. That worked great. I feel like a real human being today after getting almost a full night of sleep, so I think I'm going to give up the pumping at that time. I just can't handle it anymore. I don't plan on making it a habit of bringing him into bed with us at that time, but I may for a few nights to adjust my supply slowly. I'm hoping to eliminate the rest of the pumping in the coming months, though I won't start eliminating any other pumping sessions til after his next doctors appt to see what he weighs.

We finally got a gorgeous day outside! We spent a lot of time outside after nap and it was wonderful. Ah vitamin D!

I think Xander officially has allergies. I suspected he would since last year he kind of did, but this year it's obvious. Poor guy has a really runny nose. At least he's 3 and will be able to take some childrens allergy medicine. I hate to give him meds, but he's miserable and since I have horrible allergies too I know how much it sucks. At least it only lasts about a month...

Lauren: bummer about Xander's allergies. Brekke has them too but my DH has HORRIBLE allergies to pretty much everything aside from foods (thank goodness) and has been doing the allergy immunity building shots for years to help them so I expect our kids to get them. Maybe once every few years I'll get hit with spring allergies but that's it. We finally got some nice weather that past few days too...sooooo much nicer to be outside with the kids than stuck indoors! Today is pouring rain though so guess we're on lockdown.

Virginia: *hugs* Sorry the m/s is haunting you again Hope it's short lived. Mine lasted until 14 1/2 weeks this time and I was so over it!

Baby has been head down for about a month now, but somehow yesterday he was kicking right where his head should be and killing me! Seriously don't know how people with breech babies function getting hit in the cervix by strong feet, heads & hands are bad enough! So I'm not sure if he was being a contortionist and had just moved on an angle or if he fully flipped for a while, but he seems to be back kicking my ribs this morning which I'm thankful for on many levels.

I couldn't sleep last night (didn't help DD was having bad dreams and couldn't settle for almost 2 hours) and when I can't sleep, I think about baby names and seriously nothing seems to fit this baby. GRR! We have about 4 names we are considering at this point but I just wish something felt right. Maybe something else will just magically appear here in the next 2 months like it did with Dane or when we see him one of the names will fit. Actually, one of the names I think we could easily agree on but I have a hold up with the fact that I have a [horny, irresponsible] little cousin who had a "secret" baby with some random chick about a year ago (we didn't know about it until after he was born and this is the second time for him in this situation) and the mom named him this name we're considering. Very likely we'll never even see this kid, but my aunt and grandma do from time to time and I think it would be strange for my grandma to have 2 of her only 5 great grandkids have the same name...what do you think? DH says it isn't that big of a deal.
