April chat thread

Hi everyone! So sorry I've been MIA forever. Life has been nuts. We have moved out of our house and are living with my parents (ugh). We still need to finish packing and moving some of our stuff out, cleaning, and fixing up some stuff... Then we need to get the house sold because I can NOT keep living here. I love my parents dearly, but living with them??? Omg.

In good news, we did find the land we want to buy. We're supposed to meet the seller tomorrow(for sale by owner, it's a land company)... We will sign papers, give him some money, etc. it is wonderful... 7.8 acres I'm the country, on a hilltop, QUIETt, and get this... I found out that my great aunt and both of her two sons and their families all live right there near it, so my neighbors will be family. One of her sons and his family lives in the old mansion of Agnes Moorehead (she played the mom of Samantha on the tv show Bewitched)... She left her estate to a university in the town when she died and his wife works for the university, so their family somehow gets to reside there for free. So, of course, I will demand a tour. And it's like like 4 lots down from the property we're buying, so that has to be good for my property value, right? Lol... Better to have a mansion on a 100 acre estate next door than a shady bar, right? I can't wait until tomorrow is done so we can call the land our own. Even more, I can't wait to sell our house so we can start building!

In other amazing news, Sean is doing well with his peanut allergy desensitization. He actually only has two dose increases left. This Thursday, he will increase to TEN whole peanuts twice a day, then in two weeks, he will go to 12 peanuts twice a day. Then on May 1st (Nolan's birthday!) he will go for the challenge where he will have to eat 24 peanuts in one sitting. Then... We just go on to maintenance dosing. I am so excited about it! I also register him for kindergarten next week. Yikes!

As for he other two boys, they are doing well. Nolan is huge. He was 22lb 2oz at his appointment at 10 months (belated 9 month appt). Calvin is finally talking constantly. Time to read and catch up on all of you!!!

Yahoo
Awesome to hear from you, Mary. And it's doubly aweome that it's all good news! I am totally jealous that you'll be building a house on such an awesome lot. I wish my DH could find a job out of a city so we could move someplace like that. Sean's progress with the peanuts must be such a relief! wow. That's amazing progress. Is Calvin okay with nuts?
Nolan doesn't sound huge to me... but my kids are monsters. Arthur was 21lbs 13oz (27.5") at his 4 month visit.

We're doing pretty well. We're getting ready to move (somewhere... who knows where) in a couple months. Arthur is awesome. 5 months now and huge and generally happy. He has 2 teeth already! There are a few pics of him in the March thread if you want to look them up. The other boys are great, too. Oliver is finally talking and turns 3 in a few weeks. Alex is reading (probably almost a 1st grade level at 4 1/2) and super excited for kindergarten in the fall. Raymond is reading at a 2nd grade level and breezing through kindergarten. And... my sister is tentatively pregnant with #1 after her first IVF (2 1/2 years TTC). Her first u/s is any day now.

I think that about sums up our past 4 months. Whew. Oh yeah, and I've got baby fever.

I have weight/height stats for the boys. Since they were all at the doc last week when Raymond had scarlet fever (he's all better now!) I got them weighed and measured.
Raymond is 49" and 53lbs. wow.
Alex is 43.5" and 48.5lbs (at 4 1/2 the exact size Raymond was at 4)
Oliver is 38.5" and 34.5lbs
Arthur is around 29" and 23+lbs. Our scale broke, so I can't really weigh him. Or me. I'm still up 14lbs or so (of 25 gained) as of last month.

Hi Mary!! Nice to see a full update - though I keep track a bit on FB Smile So awesome on the land! I am totally jealous too. We are house hunting now and it feels like it would be so much nicer to buy land and build what we want except that we can buy more than we can build relatively speaking and I know nothing about buying land or building and it all sounds like a lot of decisions and stress. Great news on the peanut stuff too, so awesome!

Virginia - big boys, glad everyone is healthy again! GL getting ready to move

AFM - House is SOLD! Oh Mary my one piece of advice if you haven't already if you're going to be moved out of your house for more than 30 days check with your home owners b/c coverage can change if you don't live there. We had a major issue and thankfully everything was covered but we really didn't know if it would be. It created SO much angst in my world. But we're all sold, it wasn't cheap we lost a good chunk, but we're feeling so relieved to be DONE! We looked at a house today that I really liked but DH did not, sigh. We don't need to buy this second but I can tell finding "perfect" that we both agree on might be a challenge. Oh well, better situation than owning a house we don't live in! Pregnancy is good, my second apt is next week. We saw our families when we closed and that was lovely. Very fast and a little sad to be in and out so quickly but fun and everyone now knows. So that's fun too! Yay for baby #3 Smile

I want a house. One with space. Everything is super expensive in our area and there's no space anywhere. I'm hoping some time soon we can get out of the suburbs. I want at least an acre so the boys can run around. Here 1/3 acre is considered a huge lot.

ETA: Oliver is still nursing. And he's been asking for it more often recently. DH has been dropping hints for, oh, about a year now, that it's time to wean. It's getting to the point where I kind of hide it from him. But, I don't really mind if Oliver keeps going (he turns 3 in 3 weeks). I don't know whether I should try to wean, muddle along, or just tell DH that I'm going to let him go as long as he wants. I never thought I'd be comfortable BFing a preschooler, but... it's different now that I'm getting there. He gets pretty jealous when I BF Arthur, and loves to point out "There are two milks! That's baby's. This is Ollie's!"

Aww Virginia sounds like he needs it. I felt the same way pre-nursing....maybe I could do it until 1, then I nursed Rory until just shy of 2, and I know if a kiddo seemed to really need it I'd probably go longer. It is good for them and hey I bet it has helped you avoid all the clogged ducts and stuff Smile Added bonus!!!

I busted out my maternity clothing today! Some of my regular stuff still fits, shirts and pants but I was starting to feel super muffin top-ish. I'm feeling like 15 weeks has FLOWN by!

wow, it has flown by, Katie!

AFM: DH and I had a talk about #5 last night. He really feels done with 4 and I doubt he'll change his mind. I think I'd like a 5th next summer, but we're hoping to buy a house then, so it could be kind of crazy. I'm not sure I can make myself feel done with 4, I'd really like to have another and be able to go through the pregnancy and newborn phases knowing it's the last. But, I think I need to try to feel done. Life would certainly be easier if we stopped with 4 than if we kept going.
Amanda, Mary, any advice on how to accept stopping when you don't feel done?

I'm interested in this advice too Wink 3 seems like a really good stopping point but man I think it will be hard to think never again -- but I'm not sure that will ever be easy so maybe I just have to accept it!

Well we just put an offer in on a house! Crazy fast, I know, but we have been looking for about a month and this is the first house we both went YES we could live here. AND it's in the best elementary school in the area by far (ranked in the top in the state) and it has this amazing fully landscaped yard with a fantastic garden and compost. It has a beautiful kitchen with a gas stove and a beautiful gas fireplace. And there is another offer in. It is on the LOW end of our budget which is crazy so we offered asking in full and will see if we can get it. If not we'll keep looking, I'm not going to haggle a ton and offer a lot more than asking but I am hoping we get it!

Good luck, Katie! We found a town in the area which has places we could afford, with space, a reasonable commute, and good schools. DH wants to rent for another year first, though.

I'm going to let the #5 issue rest until after we move and see how we feel then.

If I recall your DH has had reservations at some point before you went ahead and TTC so maybe he just needs time and space to think about it. He may come around, especially as the baby gets a bit older and needs a bit less constant care. GL moving, AGAIN! You have moved a lot, I don't envy that! This last move has been hard, I'll be so glad to be settled again.

We have a verbal acceptance! They countered with a very very minimal request for more due diligence money (money we lose if we back out for no reason but otherwise money that goes towards our down payment/cclosing so really very little risk considering we'd only back out for a major inspection issue) so we said yes and they should be back in town tomorrow to sign! Hopefully nothing changes before then! It's all exciting Smile

Katie - Not crazy at all, my house is the first one DH and I loved and we got it even with having to close quick. Glad you got the approval, hope the inspection goes well.

Still waiting on the signed copy from them but we gave our checks and it seems a fairly done deal! I have to talk to the mortgage folks tomorrow and figure out all the paperwork we need there. PITA. Our first house it was so easy...I mean hence the mortgage crisis....but it's kind of crazy now. I am so excited to get settled though....

On to other things I have to obsess about....childcare. 3 in daycare is expensive, knew that going in, but to complicate matters Evan is at one school, Rory is at another and baby will need to be at a third. There just isn't time for all of that. So do we send E to pre school (which is 4 minutes from my work) and leave R&baby at home with a nanny? It would save time and be easier but then Rory is mostly home and no socialization, which I suppose we could solve on the weekends with classes etc and he is pretty little. Argh, lots of consider.

On the bright side we decided if we found a house reasonable enough and could afford it we'd look in to someone cleaning the house once a week and someone doing to mowing. Both are pretty affordable around here and since we were under budget I think it will be a nice plus to save weekend time....

So... we're looking at places to buy. We've only rented so far (hence all the moving), so it's kind of intimidating and exciting at the same time. We're looking about 30min away from our current location. There are also a couple nice sounding rentals right nearby, so we're going to check those out, too. If we choose one of those we might move later this month. Eek.
I'm in love with the paper representation of one house. It's brand new, has over an acre, great location... DH has to try to figure out all the financial stuff and maybe we can look at some places soon.

Yeah, DH might come around. If we buy a place I think he's more likely to eventually be persuaded than if we rent and are expecting to move again soon. There are so many pros/cons to everything.

My sister has her first u/s today. I had a dream last night she found out she was expecting identical twins. Unlikely. Her betas were lower than mine (and she's not sick yet - lucky!)

Oh my. I figured out how to feel very done having kids (at least temporarily). get sick. I spent the past few hours feeling extremely dizzy, getting chills, and occasionally dry heaving (from the dizziness). Ewww. It's either a really nasty cold or mastitis (no fever, though). I've got the little two nursing on demand on my troublesome side while pumping the other. And yes, I have a negative cheapie HPT. Never hurts to check. I'm starting to feel better, but... for a little while there I was ready to go get my tubes tied immediately. I had to ask my ILs to take DS1 to school. If we have more we're totally hiring a nanny for at least a few months.

I found that once my kids were in school I didn't have a drive to have another, it happened with both the girls. I think it's partly the age, they are more independent, and partly the fact that you do have more freedom.

That and lots and lots of fur babies, want a baby, get a kitten or puppy. Ok that might not work for Katie.

DH says no puppies ever. I'll probably end up a crazy cat lady when the kids are older. either that or I need a horse farm.
feeling better, already the memory of how much i hate feeling crappy is fading.

Oh that illness does NOT sound fun at all. I'm glad you're feeling better. GL deciding on buying vs renting. It isn't easy but I will say the 4.25% interest rate we just got is pretty crazy, it is hard to argue with rates like that. Paying off early is a whole lot easier with such a low rate.

Doc apt for me tomorrow! YAY! Only my second one b/c they are letting me come every 6 wks vs 4. I feel fine so hopefully all is well.

House stuff is moving along. Getting all the paperwork to the bank. Dear lord there's a lot they need now. W2s and 401k info and all pay checks. Crazy. Not an issue except I have to collect it all and scan it and all that. THe internet does make it easier. when we got our first mortgage in 2006 we needed very little but brought most in person. I'm happy to avoid meetings. All our inspections are set for next week! YAY!

Good luck, Katie! Do you have a big u/s coming up? Are you planning to find out baby's gender?

AFM: we looked at a nice rental in the area (looking at both rentals and houses) and we really liked it. So, we might rent for another year or two. We'd move in a month, but Raymond could finish K at his current school. Basically, we could buy a nice place now, but we'd probably outgrow it in about 5 years when the kids are all a lot bigger (even if we have no more). Or we can rent a place that size and in a year or two buy a nice, big place they we will hopefully never outgrow. I like the latter option better. But, if the rental falls through, we'll be touring some places this weekend, I think.

Virginia - that's great! Sounds like a good plan. Selling in a few years would be exhausting even if the kids are a bit older. No harm waiting and being sure. I take it you are no longer looking to move out of your area?

May 2nd is my u/s. A bit depressing bc DH can't be there. He just realized he has a work thing and I don't really want to move the appointment as I already took the day off work and set up my next OB apt. It's not a huge deal just feels weird going to that alone. And yes we'll definitely find out gender as long as baby cooperates!

We're going to look at some houses tomorrow in case the rental falls through. It will also be good practice for next year.

Never hurts to look! I hope whatever is best works out for you though! How is your sister feeling? I have finally started to feel the baby and it's so nice. Just a poke here or there nothing consistent but it is still nice. And since it will likely be my last time I'm trying to enjoy it!

Yay for movement! Last I asked, my sister was tired, but otherwise feeling well. Lucky. I guess she deserve it after all the trouble they had conceiving, but still... lucky.

If you had pregnancies like I do you'd have double the babes Smile I didn't throw up once with Evan and just once with Rory and this baby. And the time I threw up with this baby I may have been just sick. I'm definitely lucky. I'm just tired and fat LOL

We had the inspection at the house and found a few things. No deal breakers or anything but things they need to take care of. We haven't heard back from them on their intentions regarding taking care of it but we only made the official request yesterday. THey did the appraisal yesterday too we should hear back on that Monday or Tuesday. Then we just get cleared to close and wait until 6/23 to actually close! hopefully Smile

Katie - Awesome on the house, hope they fix up the things you asked, wish we had found the issues with our house before closing.

Totally wish I had pregnancies like yours, I had "morning" sickness, all day! First time around that was my only big complaint, of course second time around I was dealing with Dystonia, puking was the least of my worries.

*AFM*

Had a good Easter.

Was a bit sad that my sister didn't show for my side of the family (she's really mad at my mom), but it was still a good time none the less.

I just noticed that the Birth boards for 2008 to 2012 are all merged, and 2013 is no longer 12 months but just one board. O.o This and the Photography one are the only ones i am an active member of but it's sad to see Natalie's year kinda disappear.

Seems birth boards don't really ever get rolling anymore. Last I checked it has been months since anyone posted on the Sept 2014 BB. I pretty much gave up on it. Rory's BB moved to FB and 2 gals on that BB were also on Evan's so I've kept up with them there. I've always kind of liked chat boards but they seem to fizzle quickly now. Maybe a sign I'm getting old Wink

I'm getting excited for Friday - we find out the gender Smile OK irrational gender guesses. I've felt pretty much just fine like the boys which would make me think boy. The only things that make me think girl are the way I've gained weight - I feel pudgy all over (of course that could be b/c it's #3 and I'm just getting pudgy all over HAHAH!) and when we conceived. If there really is any rhyme or reason both boys were DTD a day or two (or in Rory's case as much as 3) days before ovulation. The only times I've gotten preg right at ovulation I m/c'd. This time it would have been dead on day of ovulation I believe. So we'll see Friday! Of course I will be thrilled either way. Accepting that we'll never have a girl will give me a moment of sadness I'm sure if it's a 3rd boy but the idea of 3 crazy boys has its own special appeal Smile

All else is good! I need to start organizing, throwing out and packing the rental. We have until the end of June but there are things I could easily take care of now and get it out of the way. I just need the motivation!

GL, Katie!
sorry to be MIA. packing plus general crazy life. The boys are all awesome. I can't believe Arthur is 6 months old! I'm pretty sure we'll never TTC again, so it's kind of sad to see the baby days fly by.

Katie - Excited wait to hear the ultra sound results.

Virginia - Hope the packing and move goes smoothly.

AFM

My aunt is due this week with her third, she is normally late so I don't expect to hear anything to soon.

I was sick this weekend with a stomach bug, so still recuperating

I really don't like Natalie's teacher, I'll be talking to the principal about it, but thankfully the school year is almost over.

Other then that not much going on.
