    Default August Chat Thread

WHOA! It's AUGUST! I just realized it as I went to type in the July thread about fast summer was going that I could start a new thread!

Amanda - sounds like work has been busy!

Sandra - welcome back tell us about your stay at home! Hope it was a nice time

Cari - Ohh I'm always thankful Evan likes the car he's had car fits twice ever! That's kind of cute about DH I don't tell ANYONE but DH (and you ladies lol) until 12-14 weeks. No one even knows I had a 2nd m/c before this pregnancy.

Mary - ugh I hope they will call it in. Yuck!

AFM - quiet weekend. Sat we did some family stuff dinner for my aunt's bday etc. Yesterday hung home cleaned, laundry the norm. Back to work today. Tomorrow I start "training" that gal. Hopefully it goes better than I'm afraid it will go. I'm trying to be positive! If anyone is looking for some funny books I started the Stephanie Plum series. There are 17 of them I just finished #3. They are mystery but really funny. My only issues with them is that they are only like 300-350 pages long I can read that in 1-2 days so I'm reading them really fast. Common sense would say I shoudl check for them at the library but ease of getting them sent to my Kindle continues to prevail and I've been buying them all Oh well there are worse habits to have!

We'll see what I can recall from the other thread.

Cari - sorry DH is telling everyone. And sorry about the insomnia! I was taking unisom (1/2 tab at bedtime) for the m/s and since it's sold as a sleep aid it totally took care of the insomnia.

Mary - hope you get the ringworm cured soon.

    Sandra - welcome back!

Katie - GL with the training! I got to see my dad's Kindle this weekend and it was so cool.

    Amanda and everyone else -

AFM: My mom's home! My goals for this month are keep up with the housework and *drumroll* make a first try at PTing Alex. Since we have so many LOs who will be PTing soon, is anyone interested in a PTing thread?

ETA: I'm a little worried about future TTC plans. DH doesn't seem to feel he can handle the kids on his own. He's done it occasionally while I run a quick errand, but he gets overwhelmed so easily. He's going to have the two big boys to himself all day Saturday and he's worried about even that. Before Oliver was born he used to take them to the playground by himself. So weird.

Virginia - Hopefully your DH will find it easier than expected to handle the LO's on his own. It's good to hear your mom is home. I'll join in on a PT thread, but we're not actively trying just yet. Sean is interested, but still resists sitting on it without a diaper, so we're just sorta letting him lead us right now.

Katie - Woohoo for a quiet evening. After the weekend I had, I could use a vacation, haha.

AFM... They're making us come in for an appointment, booo! They could get us in this afternoon, but I'd be at work, so we're going tomorrow morning instead. Our pediatrician wont be there, so we'll be seeing a different one, the one that did Cal's circ. She is SUPER young, but very nice. I hope she can see it and doesn't think I'm crazy. Sean's is pretty much gone, and Ca's is small/faint. The fact that it has spread to new areas on Cal freaks me out though. Oral meds may not be appropriate for him due to age, but I guess we'll see what the doc says.

And just for fun, here was Cal's feeding schedule over Saturday night/early Sunday morning:
    8pm - 4oz
    10pm - 4oz
    1am - 5oz
    4am - 4oz
    7am - 4oz

The amount he ate at each of those feedings was the entire bottle, so I'd venture to guess he would've eaten more if offered. But that's 21 ounces of BM in 11 hours!! PIGGY.

    Coping from July Chat Thread:

No advice here, Sandra... We're in a similar boat (see my previous post for Saturday night's schedule). Cal hasn't STTN since he was a newborn with mild jaundice, LOL. Sean was STTN regularly loooong before this point, so this is all new to me also.

In other news, it's time to tally up pg.org members' time spent BFing in honor of world breastfeeding week. I feel odd joining in because I've always EP'ed, except for the first 4 weeks with Cal, but hey.... It's still sorta BFing, right? They don't drink formula!

Anyway, here's the link for that -

ETA: Ughhhh... Sean has learned how to spit. This is good for teeth-brushing. Not so good for pretty much EVERYTHING ELSE. Blah!

Oops i forgot it was august, I'll post my question here.

Any sleeping techniques to help me out here? Andrew has NEVER SSTN and this waking up 6x a night is for the birds. Book recommendations are also welcome.

    Things we tried:
    Cosleeping
    CIO
    Tummy Sleeping
    Back Sleeping
    Side Sleeping
Rice cereal in the bottle at bed time

Sandra - Have you tried swaddling, changing room temperature, putting him in his own room, feeding more/less often during the day, having someone else go in when he wakes (if it's an option), music, nightlight or no lights (DS1+2 need it dark to sleep), a lovey for nighttime (to introduce it, hold it between you and baby when you feed him every feeding for a while so it starts to smell like you and he associates it with milk and mommy snuggles). ummm... I'll keep thinking. Hope something works for you soon.

Have you read The Happiest Baby on the Block?

Ohh no suggestions! Evan didn't STTN completely for a fairly long time but not STTN was NOT getting up 6+ times a night! I think he got up once a night until like 10 months old or so and I was mostly OK with that since he didn't LOVE solids for a LONG time so I'd nurse him. 6 times a night though at Andrew's age seems miserable for you and him! He can't be feeling well rested waking up that much (and neither can you!). I've got nothing to help though. We never really had to do much sleep training I kind of insisted Evan sleep on his own from the get go b/c I hated co sleeping and he has always liked his crib for the most part. So I'm useless

Virginia - Love the montage of nursing pics!

Sandra - Love the EPing pic also... So true! WBW always leaves me feeling a tad bittersweet. Happy because of what I've accomplished, but sad because of what I didn't... *Sigh*

ETA - SUPER nauseated today. Hope it's not m/s, LOL. I'm fully convinced our 3rd and final baby will be an "oops". Not a total oops, because we know how to prevent and are currently choosing not to, but unexpected in that we're not TTC.

Have you tried swaddling - he never was much of a swaddler, suppose we could try though, not sure if i have one that fits him.

changing room temperature - nope havent tried that though, but he sleeps in a full sleeper and doesnt seem overly hot and we keep the house at about 76-78

putting him in his own room - trying that tonight

feeding more/less often during the day - i do feeding on demand and let him eat as much as he needs/wants

having someone else go in when he wakes (if it's an option), (not an option)

music, nightlight or no lights (DS1+2 need it dark to sleep) - trying that tonight in a dark room alone

a lovey for nighttime - he cuddles up with a blanky at night already

    I'm so exhausted!

I watched the movie happiest baby on the block but it didnt really seem to give any tips for older babies.
