August Chat Thread!!

It seems a little odd to change the tone to something overall so trivial but just the same no one else will really rejoice in our potty achievements.

Evan went to the bathroom on the potty by himself with no prompting from me today! WOOT! Of course now he wants me to give him ALL the treats. But still YAY! Now we need to get a poop. I'm feeling like maybe we will get him PT'd by my target of 3 (I'm not really taking a super focused approach which I may regret)

On another note -- Sandra are you around? Did you get a Jetta wagon a while back? I think I remember that. I've been looking at the wagon TDI and wondered if you liked yours

I'm a little on the blue side today, DH has been working with the foster dog and he's been doing really well in many aspects, unfortunately he lashes out with unknown triggers. Having a 3 year old and two cats in the house we feel that the dog can't stay so we will be returning him to the shelter.

To try and keep our minds occupied today we are going to the Toronto Science Center after dropping off the dog, I might try to convince DH to go to Cold Stone too (there is one by the Science Center).

Amanda - Sorry it's not working out with the dog, booo!

Katie - Yay for potty success! Sean does poop in the potty now, but he HATES it. He gets all stressed out about it, haha. He'll get used to it eventually, I guess. We went out grocery shopping and went to Target earlier, and he did well. He peed once at Target and THREE times at the grocery store, haha. They were all pretty big pees except the second one at the grocery store was mostly just dribbles. I was just glad he didn't make a mess.

Karen - If you happen to pop in, please know I'm thinking of you guys, sending mental hugs your way. I've struggled to make sense of it in my mind.. It's just not fair, it's not right, I don't get it. *Sigh* Wish there was some way I could help, but I know there's nothing anyone can do. :(

Yeah I'm a lurker ;) I tend to read a lot but never really get around to replying. I have 2010 JSW TDI. I love it so much! So if you want someone who will give you the pros and cons of it, well i wouldnt be the right person because I love the car I cant think of hardly any negative ;) I only drive in town and i get 35ish MPG. If i drove interstate i would easily get 45 MPG.

Oohh Sandra I love your review!! :) I'm SO cheap. I have been looking at cars/SUVs/Vans/Crossovers etc for years. My Hyundai Tuscon is a 2005 that I paid off in late 2008 and haven't had a car payment since. Knock on wood it's been very reliable and I keep thinking maybe I'll get one more year out of it then the year passes and I figure why not another? We've been paying off other debt (school) so I haven't been saving for a vehicle....bah decisions!

The JSW just has so many little features that seem so insignificant but when you look at the picture as a whole, its like WOW. For instance heated side mirrors (GREAT for snowy states like yours!), heated seats, touch screen radio - although I wouldnt let them sell you on the GPS - its like 1 or 2k extra for just a GPS, the upgrade is not required for the touch screen radio which comes with 3 months of free Sirius radio. I can even stream my iphone music through bluetooth OR MDI cable (located in the center console). Ooh i guess that is one negative, the center console can hold like a phone and a handful of change. Its ridiculously tiny. Other random features include DC outlets (one in the back seat and one in the trunk IIRC), locking gas tank door - if your doors are locked, its locked, daytime running lights... stuff like that.

I really should become a TDI sales person.

Katie - don't you love not having no car payment? We paid our Honda Accord off a few months back and it's amazing having the extra money to save elsewhere! However, we're both SO mad we got this car in the first place. Don't get me wrong, LOVE it as a car. But we realized after having Xander that we'd love something bigger... An SUV or mini van or something. But it's too late now. This car runs perfectly well and we're not about to take on a new car payment just to upgrade, so we'll be driving it until a) I start working again, or b) we HAVE to replace it. It's just a bummer that we got in that accident while I was pregnant, because we were purposely waiting til Xander was born to see what kind of car we'd want. But things didn't work out that way.

That said, I guess you're about to take on a car payment, eh? Still, super exciting to get a new car!!!!

Mary - Xander was weird about pooping on the potty for a little while too. But it didn't take long til he realized it was much better and now it's no biggie. Glad your first outing went well and there weren't any accidents.

AFM - I've been feeling the baby a bit harder and more frequently, and last night he/she kicked so hard a few times in a row that my entire stomach popped out with each little kick! Even DH got to see them and he was so thrilled! Of course by the time he put his hand on my stomach to feel them the baby went into stealth mode. haha. The same thing happened when I was pregnant with Xander, the second someone touched my belly other than me the baby would completely stop moving, but they'd move their hand and he'd start up again. hahahaha. I always thought it was hilarious. Especially since if I touched my stomach the baby seemed to know and would just keep on bebopping along. :) This is seriously the best part of pregnancy, the part that makes all the CRAP worth it. You get to have your baby all to yourself and I just love that so much! I love having that special time that's just us, even if I do have to feel like I got hit by a bus half the day to experience it...

Sandra - all the reviews talk about how VW has done a really good job of keeping it a higher end interior. I HATE the interior of my car. It's cheap....which makes sense I mean the vehicle itself was pretty cheap. I'd like something nicer though especially since I will drive the next car another 7-10 years (hopefully!). I just put new tires on my car so we'll see if I do anything soon.....I think we can pay off the last of DH's college debt by Jan then my focus will probably be a car....I hate trading one debt for another though drives me crazy!

Lauren - YAY for feeling baby move!! It is the best part! I forget will you find out what this little one is? I remember Xander was a surprise by accident ;)

I finally uploaded vacation pictures. It made me depressed that it's over LOL Especially since work has been AWFUL lately. Like so bad the VP is sending "hang in there" e-mails. Sigh. I even applied to another job I saw posted locally. I don't know that I'll even get an interview but something about putting my resume together and submitting it made me feel less like a whiny whiner who moans and does nothing about it.

I also just e-mailed the photographer that came back in Dec and asked if she'd come take pics of us and the dogs! I want FAMILY pics LOL

Katie - I saw your pictures on FB this AM - looks like you guys had a lot of fun! Our vacation plans this summer got thrown out the window when DH got this new job and had to be in CA all summer long. :( I have no idea when we will get to go away now, especially since he spent vacation $$ flying back twice to spend the weekend with us. Boo. My sister used to have a VW and loved it! She just bought an Altima though. Woohoo for potty success!

Lauren - Yay for tons of movement! I miss that so much!

Mary - Glad Sean did so well on your outing! Like I said on FB, I'm not really looking forward to those early diaper-free outings (especially with a girl and NYC toilets :Shudder: )

Hi Sandra!

AFM - I think I am going to go buy Lily some training undies this weekend, she has asked to go to the bathroom several times already today - she has been dry for most of them, or had just started to pee. She had gone backwards for a bit recently, pooping in her diaper and waking up wet (both of which she really hadn't done in a LONG time) - I think it's kind of a reaction to DH being gone along with normal toileting process. I'll be off from the 16th - 9/11 though, so I figure it's a great time to work on it.

I thought this important and I really hope that Karen doesn't mind me posting this since it made the news.

I sadly found out what happened to Karen's son Evan, I'd just like to put it out there to everyone please be careful with your young kids around water and pools, keep them well supervised.

Karen, you and your family are in my thoughts.

I had an incident when Natalie was younger in the tub, she ended up face first in the water, thankfully I was right there and prevented anything tragic from happening, but things could have been far worse.
