Katie - I'll bet you won't even need the pump if you decide to stop. Both times I quit, I had weaned myself down to twice a day, and just quit from there... Never felt engorged or full or anything. Of course, you could always take it for peace of mind.

Amanda - Good deal on the photo book. I have a coupon that someone gave me with my Christmas presents for a free one, but I never checked to see if it has an expiration date... I hope not!

AFM - I'm dreading work the next few days. I have a change of schedule on Friday that actually benefits me, though. The other pharmacist I work with has some health issues going on and is having to go through a bunch of testing (a little nervous for him), and he needed me to switch shifts Friday. So instead of working Friday night, I'll work the morning, which I think makes more sense when it's your weekend off anyway... It'll make my weekend a little longer, so that's nice. I'm hoping to clean/pack up a bunch of the stuff from our basement this weekend (mostly toys, omg.. TONS). I hope I can be productive.

Katie - I could have written your nursing post. I'm still BFing Oliver once or twice a day, never feel letdown, don't make a ton of milk, he doesn't like cow's milk but loves cheese and yogurt etc. He loves nursing, and it's an excuse to snuggle in bed a little longer in the mornings. GL with weaning if that's what you choose to do.

AFM: was super exhausted last night. somehow made it to 9pm, went to bed, and slept 9 1/2 hours.

Virginia - I hope the exhaustion is a good sign!!! When will you test?

AFM - I found out a little more about my former coworker who ended up addicted to narcotics. Apparently, he was on lisinopril (a blood pressure med) for like 10 years, and he developed a cough from it. It is fairly common that it will cause a cough that people can't tolerate and need to switch meds. But it usually happens much earlier. So after 10 years on it, it makes sense that he didn't suspect it. His doctor prescribed him a cough syrup that contained hydrocodone... And the cough never really went away, but the cough syrup helped. By the time they realized it was the lisinopril, he was hooked on the cough syrup. He started stealing vicodin from work (also contains hydrocodone), as well as other similar meds. He said he knew he was going to get caught and was planning to detox himself. But it was too late. The loss prevention guy at work and a guy from the state board came in to talk to him and he admitted it all. The state board is pretty good about offering opportunities for rehab and treatment before taking a pharmacist's license away. He said he has a lot of personal issues that he needs to deal with, including deaths of some family members. His mom had multiple sclerosis and I assume she died pretty young. They don't live to be very old, generally, and she had died before I met him when he was 32. His dad died a couple years ago also. He's also gay, he has a husband who is a doctor (they got married in Canada)... He wasn't aware of the situation as he had been out of town, but probably knows by now. So he has a lot of stuff to contend with. I just hate it that it had to get to that extreme for him, because he really does have a big heart and is a nice person. It just sucks that he couldn't find a better way to deal with his issues.

I thought I typed a reply here yesterday but guess it didn't post. Anyway...

Mary: sounds like your coworker had a lot on his plate emotionally. That's really too bad.

Virginia: hope your early bed time made you feel rejuvenated!

Katie: I'd say you'll be fine w/o pumping too. Both times when I've weaned, I've been down to 2 feedings and wasn't in pain at all. GL!

Hi girls! So yesterday morning after breakfast, Dane developed a rash down his back and stomach. I figured it must have been from the almost whole orange he ate - he has mild eczema from time to time so I know his skin is sensitive and he's gotten a rash from food once before. The only weird thing was that the rash itself was really warm but he didn't have a fever so I wasn't too worried about it. By last night, it didn't look any better and under his eyes were a little red. He was behind on sleep though (took a very short nap) so I figured I'd see how he looked this morning. When he got up, his back looked a lot better, but his stomach and now hands, feet, and face are dealing with some of the rash too. UGH. So I got him into another pedi at our pedi's office (our regular pedi was booked out today) and this doc thinks it's a viral infection or possibly strep. They did a strep swab because he saw a white spot in the back of his mouth, but it came back negative so hopefully it's not going to develop and whatever is going on just fades out on it's own. He doesn't think the orange was related but told me lets avoid them for a few weeks before trying them out again just in case. But poor DS looks pretty rashy and miserable even though it doesn't seem to be bothering him. OH and when the doc was swabbing his throat, he noticed one of Dane's front teeth is chipped pretty good. BOYS! I question how long it's been like that because I brush his teeth so I'd think I would've noticed but it isn't like I get a good look at them fighting him to brush so maybe it's been like that a while? I'm pretty bummed but I guess glad it's not a permanent tooth.

Ash - poor Dane! I hope he clears up quickly. Yeah, at least it's not his permanent tooth that's chipped...

Mary - your poor co-worker, that's gotta be rough.

Virginia - glad you got in a good night of sleep!

AFM - Ben had his 1 month checkup yesterday and everything looked good. I have another little baby, though. lol. He was at the 15th percentile for weight last month and still is this month. He's healthy and filling out, etc., just thin like Xander was. He was 60th for length. But I'll take the weight, I think Xander got really low at one point, like under the 5th percentile? But she said as long as he stays in the same-ish percentile that it's okay, it's just how he's meant to grow. Not much else going on, just so sick of the cold!!!

    Hang in there Virginia!

Lauren: Dane is similar, low weight % and above average height. I think he was about 10% for weight and 75% for height at 15 months. I'll be interested to see where he is at his "18 month" which will really be 19 months in a few weeks. He's definitely dropped on the charts in weight, not enough that his pedi is concerned but she basically said don't be afraid to give him extra calories as he's obviously running all of his off.

Dane's rash seems to be marginally better today, he is acting totally normal though so at least that's a good sign. We're having a Super Bowl party this weekend so lots to do to get ready (especially cleaning!).

Ashley - Weird about Dane's rash. Calvin had something on his cheek yesterday. It was a big red spot that was really HOT to the touch. I have no idea what it was or where it came from. It seems better this morning, but still a bit red. Strange little kids.

Lauren - Glad he's growing a little better than you thought! I assume the doctor didn't bug you about supplementing? Sounds like you just make long, thin babies. Are you and your DH tall?

Virginia - Let us know if the itch to test wins out this weekend! I really hope this one is it for you.

AFM - I've been trying to get motivated to get some things packed and purged in preparation for getting out of this house. FINALLY got some stuff done last night. I was SO stressed about the status of our basement because it was overwhelming to look at. But DH and I spent an hour down there last night and it is mostly under control and boxed up now. If I had known that an hour of work would accomplish that much, I wouldn't have been so stressed about it. We ended up with a few bags of trash (mostly from Christmas wrapping paper and stuff that I just decided to throw out) and a bag of recycling stuff, mostly some kitchen items that we'll never use again that we stashed down there. Packed up MULTIPLE boxes of toys, omg. And we already have several 32-gallon totes full of toys up here in the house. Holy crap.

Today I hope to do the kitchen. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff we can recycle... Plastic things we don't need/use. Huge souvenir cups from the zoo (it's a better deal to buy one of them and refill it than to buy a little paper cup for like 4 bucks each time, hahah, but then they accumulate). Can't wait to get my hands on the kitchen. After that comes the office... It's a nightmare storage room for all of our junk and stuff we don't want the kids to get into, mostly.

Mary - Sounds like progress! Yay for packing it up!

Virginia - Test tomorrow maybe?! I'm going to bet a BFP

Ashley - poor Dane! I hope it's clearing up

Lauren - sounds like a slow gainer but healthy and that's all that matters! Evan and Rory were both big but like your boys they followed a similar pattern

AFM - The boys both have colds but besides perpetually runny noses they seem fine. I have to travel this week so I really hope I don't get the cold. Flights are no fun with head congestion. I'm not looking forward to being away from DH and the boys for 3 days. BOO!

Katie - Booo for leaving the boys!! My job has sucky hours, but I'm happy that it doesn't involve travel.

Virginia - Anxious for you. Keeping my fingers crossed.

AFM - Didn't end up getting much work done in the kitchen today. Did throw away some stuff. But I did make homemade pizza (crust and sauce from scratch) and it turned out really good! I'm in the process of making lasagna for tomorrow. I'm just doing the prep-work tonight, so that way I can just throw it in the oven tomorrow. I should have more free time tomorrow to get some stuff from the kitchen purged and packed... I hope!
