July Chat Thread!
Happy July! I can't believe I turn the big 3-0 this month... Yikes.
We had Sean's birthday party on Sunday. It went very well, aside from the weather sucking a bit. The kids got to play outside in the water toys for a while before it hit, though, so that was good. He had a great time, although he was a bit shy at first and kept telling me he wanted to eat his food under his table, lol. That was early on when only some of our older relatives had shown up. He warmed up once there were some other kids there.
This weekend, we'll be going to a little girl's 4th birthday party... They were born only a week apart, she's affectionate and a little social butterfly, so my shy boy warms up a little faster around her. :)
Today was my visual evoked response test. We had to get up really early for it. It gave me a headache, omg... I had to stare at a circle in the middle of a tv screen that was filled with small black and white checkerboard print, and the blacks and whites alternated rapidly. I had to do it with one eye at a time. I'm not sure how long the doc will take to read the results and call me, but she was sending the data to him today.
Sean and Nolan had their 4-yr/2-mo appointments Monday. Sean was 38.75 lb and 40.25". Nolan was 12lb 5oz and 24". They were both 75th %ile for weight and 50th for height. Sean has apparently chunked up a bit, but she said he was well within the normal BMI range. He got his MMR shot and is having a reaction to it. We just noticed it today. He complained of arm pain in that area yesterday, but I just assumed it was the usual post-shot pain. I feel bad now, because I never even looked at it really. Didn't expect it, I guess. His whole upper arm is swollen, hard, hot, and red down to the elbow. I called the doc and they weren't concerned, just said to watch it, ice it, and give benadryl/pain relievers if needed. We have him benadryl and he has been passed out for 3 hours.
Mary - I hope the tests give you some answers - some POSITIVE answers. Glad the party was fun!
HAPPY JULY! CRAZY! I have tomorrow off, work Friday, one more week then a week at the beach with my family :) YAY! I'm so stressed at work. Like today I think the anxiety was building to unhealthy levels. I'm trying to calm down tonight. There's just a lot going on I have a bunch of crazy deadlines, there's no way to go on vacation with out getting ahead and I'm struggling to write a program that gets to my budgets. We have a new VP and I was thinking Friday I might bring all my crap in with me to his office lay it all out and see if he has any brain storms on a way to arrange funds to hit the targets. It can't hurt. I'm damn good with numbers and I just don't see a path to hitting it. And then if I can't actually hit the budgets I need some guidance on what to go after. Oh well I'm going to just enjoy tomorrow. Have a nice day with my family and try to unwind :) Work is just work...
Mary - that sounds like it'd hurt to look at for too long!! I hope you get your results quickly! Sorry Sean is having a reaction, poor guy.
Katie - Sorry work is so stressful right now. I think you're due a nice vacation!!
My goodness how is it July already!! Birthday and wedding anniversary month for me, woo hoo! Not that I want to turn 32. *gulp* This shouldn't be happening! lol
Mary - Great to hear Sean's birthday was good.
Hope the testing turns up something that isn't so bad with you, or that your problems clear up.
Your kids are growing fast, Sean is bigger than Natalie now, not sure on her height but she's under 40" and she weighs 29.8 lbs.
Katie - Try to get some good R&R in tomorrow so you are ready for Friday.
I have one more week till I go on vacation and lots to do too.
Looks like there are lots of birthdays in this month you can add me to the list, am I the oldest turning 34?
Amanda - Woohoo for vacation coming up! I dread knowing that I won't have vacation for a loooong time after this maternity leave. It doesn't help that my company is redoing its vacation policy starting next year... We used to start the year January 1st with all of our vacation time for the year, but they're changing the system and everyone will have to start accruing hours at the first of the year and they'll build slowly over time. You could start out the year with more time off if you banked days this year, which is what most people are doing, but since you have to use all your time off for maternity leave, I won't have any days to start the year off. It really screws over anyone who has a baby this year. So I probably won't get a vacation until sometime in the Spring of next year, if I'm lucky... Ugh. I wish we got a year off for mat leave like you do in Canada. SO jealous!
Lauren - Happy birthday/anniversary month! Another year older, another year wiser... HAH. I'll keep telling myself that, anyway. ;)
Katie - Boooo for work stress. That's exactly why I refuse to take a position higher than the one I've got at work, LOL. I don't want the responsibility. In some fields, I can see it being beneficial to do it, but in mine, they only get paid marginally more for a LOT more responsibility. Definitely not worth it. At least you have a week at the beach to look forward to!!
AFM - Yesterday was a decent day. After my test, we came back home where my mom was watching the kids for us. DH, my mom, and I took the kids to a park nearby and let the big boys play for quite a long time. They loved it, and it was nice to be outside among the trees and fresh air. It was kinda hot and humid, but I had my new special sweat-wicking capri pants on, hahaha. Sean played hide-and-seek with some random kids there, and it was all-around a good time. Today isn't too exciting, considering it's a holiday. It's rainy and cool so we're just sitting around not doing much. DH did cook burgers and brats on the grill, but that was the extent of our festivities. I wanted to take the boys to some fireworks tonight, but they're calling for T-storms all day and night, so we're just going to skip it. I wonder if the neuro office is open tomorrow? I'll bet they're closed for the holiday, so I probably won't hear back about my test this week. Boo!
I'm excited for this weekend. Saturday, we have that birthday party.. It's at a place near here that has putt-putt golf and a big indoor play area with a ball pit and things for the kids to climb with slides and stuff, as well as video games. Should be a good time. Then Sunday, we're taking Sean to the movies for the first time to see Despicable Me 2. I hope he likes the experience!
Woke up this morning with very blurred vision in left eye. It has since improved a good bit, but may still not be perfect. Not sure if it is optic neuritis, but thinking pretty good odds. Will be anxious to see if optic neuritis was detected on my VER test the other day.
Ugh Mary I am SO sorry you continue to have all these crazy, awful, scary symptoms! I take it you didn't get any results today? :( Thinking of you!
I'm 31 so you've got a couple years on me, Amanda :) I'll be 32 in January.
Happy FRIDAY! YAY weekend! My family is getting together tomorrow which should be fun. Then just relaxing Sunday. Taking a break from the grind :)
July. wow. I should have my follow-up u/s later this month, right around our 7th anniversary.
I might be the baby of the board. I turn 30 in November. ;)
Mary - Your boys are growing well! I'm guessing Alex will have almost 10lbs on Sean. ;) And maybe a couple inches. I hope you get answers soon.
Katie - any news on TTC?
Hi, everyone else! I have to take Alex to a birthday party in a couple minutes.
Katie - Have fun with the family! :) No, I didn't get any news yesterday. I didn't bother calling because I know a lot of doc offices were closed both Thursday and Friday for the holiday. Maybe I'll call Monday.
Virginia - We have a birthday party today too, but not until 5pm. I'm excited because the boys will be able to run and play and climb a lot... Which equals awesome SLEEP! ;) So question... With complete placenta previa, are you destined for a c-section, or is there still hope that it can move out of the way?
AFM - Calvin has peed in the potty twice now! Today, he did it completely on his own. Like he went into the bathroom, took off his diaper, and peed in the potty on his own. He peed on the floor too, haha, but I'll still call it a major success! :)
:yahoo: for potty success! You should totally look for toilet decals. I got some on etsy. They're little vinyl stickers which go just above the water in the back of the toilet bowl so boys can aim for them. We have trucks in both our toilets. It helped a lot with getting the pee to actually go in the toilet.
The previa doesn't mean an automatic c/s yet. I have a 50-80% chance of it moving enough for a vaginal delivery, which is usually considered to be 2cm from the cervix. I found an article, though, which claims women have a 75% chance of a successful vaginal delivery if it's 1-2cm from the cervix, so I'll put that out if it falls in that range. So, I'm really hoping for movement at my u/s.
I just ordered a great toy for the kids. I saw it at the house where the party was. It's overpriced for what you get, but probably worth the price for what the kids will get out of it. It's called blutracks and it's a long, flexible track for little toy cars (matchbox, hotwheels) and you can make hills, loops, etc just by bending the track over or around furniture or boxes or whatever. I hope it'll help keep the boys busy this summer.
I think Oliver is weaned. It's been 8 days since he nursed. He still asks for it every morning, but I've been telling him he's a big boy and doesn't need it. I'm a little sad, but we did make it to 26 months.
