Hey everyone! Sorry I have been so MIA, but you know, a new baby will do that to you for a while.
I wanted to jump on while I had a few hands-free moments and give a quick update!
As you know, he is here! Samuel Anderson arrived on 6/26 at 9:52 am via VBAC! He was 8 lbs. 8 oz. and 21.5" long! Apgars were 8 and 9.
Alright, here is a quick rundown of his birth!
-Monday, 6/25 - Convinced I would be going to my 41 week doctor appointment the following morning. Grr.
-Tuesday, 6/26 - Woke up at 1am with contractions. They were already 4 minutes apart! I timed them downstairs while walking around with my mom for an hour before I called the doctor. He wanted me to come to L&D. I decided to hop in the shower for a rinse (because who knows when I'd get another, right? ), and when I got out, I thought I sprang a leak! Felt a pop and it seemed like I had peed myself!
-3am - Admitted to the hospital to have a baby! 4-5cm dilated, 100% effaced, and baby at 0 station!
-3-7am - Labored and dealt with a severe upset stomach! Walked the halls with DH, etc. Doctor stopped in to discuss my VBAC once again, and then checked me - 5cm, 100% and 0 station still. Boo. I was having intense contractions, I thought I'd be farther along! Dr. B said he'd be back to check me at 7:30.
-7am - Stuck in bed because they can't get a good trace on baby when I'm up and moving. Ugh. Couldn't take the contraction pain while stuck in bed, so I opted for my epi. She was there in the blink of an eye! Then I was feeling much better.
-7:30am - My amazing L&D nurse stops in to tell me Dr. B is waiting for the OR to clear out before he comes to see me. She turns me on my right side to help things along, and says she'll be back! We attempt to sleep, but you know how it goes.
-9am - Having INTENSE pressure! I'm convinced I can feel something running down my legs, so I have DH check. Yup! Fluid. So I buzz the nurse and tell them I think my water broke.
-9:10am - Dr. B and nurse come in to check! I wish I could have preserved the look on Dr. B's face when he checked me and said, "She's fully dilated". Yay! I really think he thought he'd have more time to "convince" me of a repeat c/s, so I was ecstatic to know my body beat him out on that! Ha.
-9:30am - Crazy pressure! I tell them I HAVE to push. Dr. B tells me to go ahead and push if I need to, and not waste the contraction. It took me a few pushes to figure it out, but once I got the hang of it, it all went pretty fast! Dr. B didn't want me pushing for too long, so he told me he was going to give me an epi and possibly a vac assist so as not to "stress" out my scar. At that point, I didn't care! Haha. My contractions were crazy intense and I just wanted the baby out! I could feel my legs, so I was freaking out my epidural was wearing out (after 2 hours?!).
-9:52am - Sam is born! He cried immediately and was born IN his amniotic sac! I guess it was forewaters that broke before, so as he was being delivered, the sac broke! Dr. B said he got a bath as he was coming out.
That's that! My epidural definitely wore off because I FELT the episiotomy as he was cutting. Also, as he was stitching me back up I was in a ton of pain. He ended up giving me a local to finish it off. In the end, I think I ended up with a 3rd degree episiotomy and about 500000 hemorrhoids, but I will take this recovery ANY day over the c/s recovery!
Okay, that's everything in a nutshell! Everyone is doing well, he's nursing as best he can (he was tongue-tied, which we had clipped on Friday), so we're working with the LC to get things figured out. Other than that, things are just perfect! Big brother Owen is in love, too.
Yay on getting the VBAC! Great job!
Congrats! WTTW Sam! Saw the pictures on FB he's a cutie.
