My Updates!

Okay, so since I hate to keep popping into the chat thread and talking only about myself (because I always decide to post when I have about .00005 seconds), I thought I'd start up a thread I can randomly update!

Alright, I'll start off with bullet points because I just told Owen we'd go outside and he's disappeared upstairs to pick out his own clothes. Lol Oy.

Okay, here it is briefly!

- Yes, still pregnant!

- Yes, still trying for a VBAC! As of last u/s (at 36 weeks) cord was not around his neck! They also haven't said any more to me about him being too big, so, whew!

- Saturday night I had about an hour of intense contractions, but I couldn't time them because they were so disorganized. They then fizzled out!

- Yesterday (Sunday) morning, I lost my plug! It had a single streak of red/pink in it. So, bloody show?!

- Last night I had a few strong, ouchy contractions, but then (and still) nothing.

So far, that's it. I will keep you all posted. Smile

Blah, ladies! I am still here! Tomorrow will be a week since I lost my plug! Anyhow, here are some (crazy) updates from the last week. I had my 39 week appointment on Thursday...

- Still 1 cm and 50-60% effaced. Sad

- Doctor stripped my membranes without asking me!!!

- Baby is still super high at -4 (or is that +4? I can never remember the difference!)

- Had to go for a fetal growth/amniotic fluid check u/s after my appointment (fluid looks good, baby measuring in at ~8.4 lbs.)

After my appointments on Thursday, I was driving home and literally in a TON of pain. It felt like one big giant contraction the entire way around my middle that wouldn't let up. I literally thought I was going to throw up! I ended up having to pull over at a Chick-fil-a nearby and had to get out of the car it hurt THAT bad. My friend said that wasn't normal and I should call my doc back, so I did since I was really close to the office. They had me come in for another check (labor assessment they called it, which I laughed about because seriously, what can happen in 3 hours?).

Wouldn't you know it, when I got checked just THREE hours later, I was 4 cm! I went from a 1-4 in 3 hours. I was still only about 50% effaced, though, and baby was still high. The doctor then proceeded to tell me that he'd see me either that night or tomorrow (Friday) to deliver, and that I WON'T be getting a VBAC because baby is too big and my pelvis is too small. I say BS to that! I said there was no way I was consenting to a c/s at this point and that I at least wanted a trial of labor, which he agreed to.

Well, that was two days ago, and NOTHING. My painful contractions petered out over the afternoon, and since then, NOTHING. I get some painful ones every now and then, but nothing else. I am sooo frustrated! I just want this baby out! I'm afraid he's going to get too big and then they really won't let me deliver naturally. Ugh!

Anyhow, I go back on Tuesday for my 40 week appointment and an NST. So, we'll see what happens. Hopefully I don't have to go to that, though! I'd like to have him... tonight! Lol Oh well, at least I'm nearly halfway dilated now, right? Wink

Anyhow, thought I'd update!

GL! I hope you can deliver naturally! Since I only have giant babies I know it's not impossible Smile But I hope he comes easily and SOON! and no matter how healthy and screaming Smile

wow! what a crazy week. I think that's the best way to do labor, actually. Get started, get a break, then get back to it in a few days. 4cm is a great place to 'begin". Good luck, and I hope you get your vbac.

I'd like to know why the heck the doc bothered to strip your membranes without asking you if his plan was to try to push a c/s on you anyway. That said, holy cow... I can't believe you went from 1-4 so fast like that, and then... NOTHING! Little man is just playing games with you now, hahaha. Wink Good luck. Sounds like it's going to be VERY soon!

That sounds promising!!!!!!!!!!!

My dr stripped my membranes w/o asking, too. At first I was pissy about it, but I let it go. I was so ready to be done that I would've let her anyway. I just would've liked to have been asked!

Hopefully your body co-operates and you have your little one VBAC

Why does your doctor insist that baby will be too big? My SIL delivered a nearly 12 lb baby vaginally, so I can't understand why someone can't deliver one less than 9 lbs. The other thing is my OB/GYN told me that the later ultrasounds can be inaccurate.

Any news??? It's interesting that you guys had docs that stripped membranes without asking you. My doc was all anti-membrane-stripping. He told me he'd do it if I really insisted, but he encouraged me not to. I REALLY wanted to with Sean, but ended up not pushing it since my doc wasn't really into it.

Mary - I have no idea why he stripped my membranes if he's already (in his head) declared me a repeat. Although, he told me this week that he knows I want a VBAC something fierce, so I think he was trying to push things along.

Amanda - Fetal macrosomia (fetal weight greater than 8.13) CAN have adverse affects on someone trying to VBAC. My OB tried to say it's because things can get "stuck" on your scar/scar tissue, and cause ruptures. I haven't seen a lot of research on that, except that ACOG states that suspected fetal macrosomia should not solely be a reason to perform a repeat c/s. I honestly think he thinks I'm too small and baby is too big.

I know I'm a little late, but I had an appointment on Tuesday! I'm still 4 cm dilated, but now 80% effaced (I was 50% last week). ALSO! I think I shocked the you-know-what out of my OB, because baby is now -2 station! Last week (well, just 5 days prior) he'd been -4! So that is progress! I think he was super shocked because he was quiet for a while, and then told me he was really pleasantly surprised with my progress. Like I said before, I REALLY think he's convinced I'm too small for this baby. He did admit, though, that my u/s came back with me having a bit of high fluid, which is what is making me look bigger than baby really is. So I think he's coming around to the idea that the baby isn't NEARLY as big as he thinks (he keeps saying 9 lbs!), and that I CAN do this VBAC.

But, at this point, now being overdue, I'm getting anxious! I have an appointment on Tuesday, and I assume since it's my 41 week appointment, I'll have to make some sort of decision on his birth (they'll only let me go to 41 weeks for a VBAC). Ugh. I hope he comes before then!

I hope baby decides to come soon! I VBAC'd Aidens big butt (10lbs 4 1/2oz) and nothing crazy happened so I wouldnt worry too much about that part of things! Sending you lots of labor vibes. I hope you get the delivery that you hope for.

Good luck! Sending you tons of labor vibes. I haven't had any heavy big babies, but I've done big heads. Raymond had a presentation of 15" (big head+hand) and needed vacuum assistance, but I did get him out of my tiny body. Smile

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been so MIA, but you know, a new baby will do that to you for a while. Wink

I wanted to jump on while I had a few hands-free moments and give a quick update!

As you know, he is here! Samuel Anderson arrived on 6/26 at 9:52 am via VBAC! He was 8 lbs. 8 oz. and 21.5" long! Apgars were 8 and 9. Smile

Alright, here is a quick rundown of his birth!

-Monday, 6/25 - Convinced I would be going to my 41 week doctor appointment the following morning. Grr.

-Tuesday, 6/26 - Woke up at 1am with contractions. They were already 4 minutes apart! I timed them downstairs while walking around with my mom for an hour before I called the doctor. He wanted me to come to L&D. I decided to hop in the shower for a rinse (because who knows when I'd get another, right? ;)), and when I got out, I thought I sprang a leak! Felt a pop and it seemed like I had peed myself! Lol

-3am - Admitted to the hospital to have a baby! 4-5cm dilated, 100% effaced, and baby at 0 station!

-3-7am - Labored and dealt with a severe upset stomach! Walked the halls with DH, etc. Doctor stopped in to discuss my VBAC once again, and then checked me - 5cm, 100% and 0 station still. Boo. I was having intense contractions, I thought I'd be farther along! Dr. B said he'd be back to check me at 7:30.

-7am - Stuck in bed because they can't get a good trace on baby when I'm up and moving. Ugh. Couldn't take the contraction pain while stuck in bed, so I opted for my epi. She was there in the blink of an eye! Then I was feeling much better. Wink

-7:30am - My amazing L&D nurse stops in to tell me Dr. B is waiting for the OR to clear out before he comes to see me. She turns me on my right side to help things along, and says she'll be back! We attempt to sleep, but you know how it goes. Wink

-9am - Having INTENSE pressure! I'm convinced I can feel something running down my legs, so I have DH check. Yup! Fluid. So I buzz the nurse and tell them I think my water broke.

-9:10am - Dr. B and nurse come in to check! I wish I could have preserved the look on Dr. B's face when he checked me and said, "She's fully dilated". Yay! I really think he thought he'd have more time to "convince" me of a repeat c/s, so I was ecstatic to know my body beat him out on that! Ha.

-9:30am - Crazy pressure! I tell them I HAVE to push. Dr. B tells me to go ahead and push if I need to, and not waste the contraction. Lol It took me a few pushes to figure it out, but once I got the hang of it, it all went pretty fast! Dr. B didn't want me pushing for too long, so he told me he was going to give me an epi and possibly a vac assist so as not to "stress" out my scar. At that point, I didn't care! Haha. My contractions were crazy intense and I just wanted the baby out! I could feel my legs, so I was freaking out my epidural was wearing out (after 2 hours?!).

-9:52am - Sam is born! He cried immediately and was born IN his amniotic sac! I guess it was forewaters that broke before, so as he was being delivered, the sac broke! Lol Dr. B said he got a bath as he was coming out.

That's that! Smile My epidural definitely wore off because I FELT the episiotomy as he was cutting. Also, as he was stitching me back up I was in a ton of pain. He ended up giving me a local to finish it off. In the end, I think I ended up with a 3rd degree episiotomy and about 500000 hemorrhoids, but I will take this recovery ANY day over the c/s recovery! Smile

Okay, that's everything in a nutshell! Everyone is doing well, he's nursing as best he can (he was tongue-tied, which we had clipped on Friday), so we're working with the LC to get things figured out. Other than that, things are just perfect! Big brother Owen is in love, too. Smile

Congratulations! He's adorable. Yay for getting your VBAC! Boo to 3rd degree episiotomy and hemorrhoids. I've been there a couple times and it isn't much fun. But, they heal pretty quickly.
