November Chat Thread

How the heck did it take us four days to start a new thread!? I guess we just don't post as much as we used to...

Katie - my DH has been "looking" for a new job for a year now, lol. I don't think he's putting much effort into it, and even if he were he works in a bit of a niche field that he wants to stay in, soooooooooooo it'll probably take awhile.

AFM - I'm attempting to patch my popcorn ceiling today, like a really big piece! We had our pipes replaced over four years ago and where they tore out the ceiling, they only tacked up new drywall - no patching. So instead of just doing it ourselves or hiring someone, we left it and eventually we got used to it. I finally had that moment about a week ago where I just couldn't take anymore, so I looked up how to do it and bought the stuff. So far it's been pretty easy! Now we'll just see how it looks. I know you'll be able to tell, but whatever. I've seen professionally patched popcorn ceiling and you could tell, it's just the nature of the texture I guess. Bah. But it'll look better than exposed drywall!! Next project will be winter prep in the backyard (tearing down old plants, putting up little fencing around areas that get muddy in the winter so the dang dogs will stay out of it), etc. Then I'm going to replace the caulking around the tubs. I made my to-do list and I'm just going for it! Not sure when I'll have time to like make dinner, clean or be a mom in the next few weeks. hahaha

We've been pretty busy, understandably.

The two older boys have been wonderful, although Alex is going through a "not listening" phase. Arthur is pretty good. He's been sleeping okay, but it sometimes take a couple hours to get him down at night. I wouldn't say he's colicky, but he could get there. Oliver. Oh my. I don't know what has gotten into him. I'd blame it on having a new baby, but it started in the week or two before Arthur was born. His tantrums have gotten much worse again. This weekend he hit his face on the stairs during a tantrum (by accident, DH was trying to sit him down for a time out) and almost knocked a tooth out. We're waiting to see whether it will heal. The 2 days since that he's been really tough. I don't know if it's because his mouth probably hurts or because he has a cold or if there's something else. But, I'm really hoping it improves before DH goes back to work. He and Arthur both need so much one on one time right now. And on top of all that, DH may have to travel to Europe in early December. He never travels for work. What timing.

Virginia - Good luck if your DH goes to Europe... I would die!! You're used to handling the kids while he's at work, though, so you'll be just fine (if not a bit exhausted).

Lauren - Come do mine next! We have an area in our finished basement where water got in from above.. It was coming from our chimney or something, weird, I don't know. But it ruined a pretty big section of drywall, including the ceiling which is textured... Shoot me now. I will never have textured ceiling again. We have them through our entire house, it's a PITA to paint.. Flat ceilings with some nice molding or something is what we'll have in our next house.

AFM - My MS/Lyme/Lupus/Fibromyalgia/Psychosis has been bad the past few days. It's really discouraging because I had been feeling decent. Not great and nowhere near normal, but tolerable, ya know? I was at the point where I thought, "Okay, I can live with this.." And now it is worse again, so I'm feeling sad and frustrated to have no answers. I'm still taking massive-dose antibiotics on the off chance that it is Lyme, but I'm pretty sure they're not working... Been on them at least 6 weeks now. Blah.

Nolan is doing well... He is HUGE. He might be my biggest baby, which is funny as he was born the smallest. He's starting to crawl.. He's up on hands/knees rocking, and has learned to lunge himself forward... He can get all over the room, but he still hasn't quite perfected the crawling just yet. It's close, though. He loves his brothers.. They make him laugh, it's so cute. And he's sleeping pretty well. Still wakes to eat, but usually goes right back to sleep. I'm not looking forward to teething, though. Hate teething! I always imagine if they were just born already with a little mouthful of teeth, LOL. That's how nursing always felt to me anyway, so I wouldn't notice a difference, haha. Wink

Lauren - I hear you on the winter to-do list, I have to get DH to fix our garage up, some of the trim rusted and needs replacing. Also need to fix the seals on the doors at the front of our house.

Should clean up the gardens too, make my spring planting easier.

Virginia - Hope you figure out what's wrong with Oliver. Natalie is in a phase right now where she takes tantrums, I think the full time school is wearing her out. Does Oliver still nap? Maybe implementing them might help.

Mary - Sorry you haven't got a diagnosis yet, neurological stuff is so tough to get one for, and to make matters worse it's not consistant. I was very lucky when it came to getting answers for myself, hope you get your answers soon.

Glad to hear Nolan is growing well.

*AFM*

Things at work are busy, I went from doing stuff for our convention to a bi-monthly special to finishing work on a catalogue.

Natalie and Apollo have been terrors.

Natalie taking temper tantrums on a pretty regular basis, I think it's the full time school wearing her out.

Apollo has been chewing on things that don't belong to him, the other day he got a book order form from Natalies school, not so bad, and a hold of a couple of Natalies stuffed toys, thankfully I walked in not too soon after he got those so they were safe. I partly think the dog problems are because he's not getting enough exercise, when we got him he was to be DH's running buddy and they've barely done anything together, Dana and I do most of the walking with him.

Virginia - I hate when my DH leaves for training somewhere! That's usually when I call my mom all whiny and stuff until she comes out to visit and keep me company, lol. And it's not that I can't do it, it's that it sucks doing it and I don't wannnna! heh

Mary - I'm sorry your symptoms are flairing up again. Any idea when you'll get the results from all your bloodwork? And you don't want me to repair your ceiling, haha.

Amanda - my dogs get destructive if they don't get enough exercise, too. Sorry about the tantrums, we got a lot when Xander first started school too, so hopefully once she adjusts a little more they'll stop.

AFM - the ceiling turned out okay. I mean it's as good as it's going to get when you're patching a huge chunk of popcorn ceiling. But it's still noticeable as heck. I knew it would be, so I'm not mad or anything, it just stinks. There's definitely no money to scrape down the entire ceiling or anything like that, so we've gotta live with it. I still need to paint it white to match, so I'm sure it'll look a little better once I do that.

So Benjamin is 10 1/2 months old and still doesn't crawl, or at least not normal crawling. He kind of drags himself around with his hands and uses his legs to help, but he doesn't lift up his belly. He can, he does it quite often, but once he starts moving he drops his belly to the floor. I don't know what I can do to help, if anything, other than put him on the floor a lot. I just feel like it's crazy that he doesn't crawl!! But he can stand pretty well and I figure that once he learns how to pull himself up (which he seems close to doing) that he'll just start walking. lol

Don't worry about not crawling! Alex didn't crawl until he was 12 months. He scooted around on his bottom until then.

AFM: Oliver has been doing better recently. We stopped trying to get him to nap. uh oh. Now he does better going to bed and hangs in there during the day. We've also tried just hugging him when he melts down. Arthur has been sleeping pretty well. He went to bed by 8:30 the past two nights! He only wakes to eat and then goes back to sleep pretty easily. He was up to 10lbs 7oz at 12 days. He gained 18.5oz between 5 and 12 days. That's almost 2.5oz/day! Crazy. Even Alex never gained quite that quickly. I had a bit of a scare yesterday evening when I had a clot the size of a chicken egg and then heavy bleeding. Now I'm on meds (Methergine again, I needed it about 2 weeks after Oliver, too) to hopefully help wrap up the bleeding.

a picture from yesterday

ETA: DH was snuggling Arthur this morning while the others were at school and asked "Are we going to do this again?" I should have been clever and said something like "not just yet, let my stitches heal first!" Instead I said something like "oh, I don't know. Let's discuss it in about a year."
Anyone taking bets?

Virginia - of course you're doing it again! Smile I'm betting at least 5 maybe you'll even have 6 Smile Perhaps you can have 6 when I have 3 Smile

Lauren - I can't believe he is almost walking I feel like he was just born!

Mary - Aw growing so fast! Slow down babies. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well Sad Ugh Boo.

Amanda - Sorry about the chewing. We are pretty much past that with all ours but they are still adjusting to all the changes so are a bit much lately

AFM - still no movement on our house. Boo. We had someone look yesterday, not interested. Have I mentioned I hate trying to sell the house? I'm so not a fan of renting and I really can't wait to have this chapter done and it could drag on indefinitely. UGH! But aside from that all is well. I was traveling with work last week and went with one guy who reports to me and we had a lot of fun. He's great at his job so I could be a bit more relaxed. This is my first time really having a team that reports to me so it's a new balance but he's incredibly easy to get along with and very very good at his job so we had fun. Back to the grind tomorrow!

I'm so glad the job is working out, Katie! Sorry the house isn't selling yet. Hopefully it will soon.

AFM: The boys already want another baby. I really don't know if we'll do it again, but I wouldn't necessarily mind a summer 2015 baby (18-22 months spacing and probably back-to-back in school). I just hate the idea of ever facing morning sickness again. If I could do it without morning sickness we'd probably have 6.

I had some nasty pressure and cramping yesterday, just like in the days leading up to my large clot. The bleeding has picked a little again, too. Ugh. Hopefully it won't get bad again.

I'm doing another craft fair this weekend. It should be interesting with a 3-week-old. My mom will help out. Hopefully it will be fun. It's in the small town where I grew up, so I should see a lot of people I know. Smile

ETA: Raymond took this picture yesterday (warning, nursing pic!)

yeah... Oliver unweaned. Silly boy. He likes to join in for a little bit when Arthur nurses. I don't know how long it will last. I've been gently discouraging it, just because he is 2 1/2.

What a beautiful pic Virginia! I think I'd have taken a nursing 2 y/o to alleviate some over producing Smile Oh that makes me miss having a little one!

I don't really mind, but I'm worried he'll accidentally elbow Arthur or something. Also, DH finds it kind of weird now that Oliver is so big and did wean for a while.

We had our parent/teacher interview today, Natalie is doing well better than most the kids her age. She is strong willed and smart so some things are proving a challenge to her teachers, sometimes she won't do what they want.

Here is a piece of her work on the wall if I had taken a shot of the whole wall you could have seen she is advanced compared to her peers. She was the only one to describe her picture with her own writing.

The Dot Assignment was they had to use up to 10 black dots and make a picture with them, tell how many dots they used and what the picture was of.

That's a great picture! And very creative. Alex is 6 months or so younger, and doesn't like art projects. He can barely draw anything recognizable (but can write his name a read easy books).

I wish i could flip a switch and feel like our family was complete. But Arthur is just such a sweet baby. We'll see how I feel next week when DH goes back to work.

Virginia - I'm only at 2 but I feel the same. I have moments of thinking 2 is really our the most we can handle. I'm impressed with some of the local private schools and would like to consider them for the boys but if we add more kids....oh we'll see Smile

Amanda - it sounds like she's a really smart little girl! Love the pic! Creative too!

AFM - work is going well. Things here are good. The house isn't selling not a huge shocker so DH threw his resume online and has a bunch of contacts already. The joys of being in a sought after IT field. One of the potentials is a 12 month contract job paid at a large premium. He could do a contract gig b/c we might not WANT him to work once the house sold and it would be a good way to not burn a bridge so to speak. So we'll see. It's not an emergency at all now so he's just exploring options. I do think we need to get Evan in preschool, he's starting to seem a bit bored so that is something to consider too.

Hi everyone!

Amanda - Cute artwork! Sean loves art projects and writing. He wrote several of our family members' names the other day (with my help spelling), I just love watching him make the letters and learn how to spell some words. So fun!

Katie - Booo for the house not selling. I sooo want to sell ours. I got at email from zillow yesterday that our estimated home value has gone up some, lol... I have no idea where they get those numbers, but I'll take any optimism I can get. It's still substantially less than what we paid for it, but it's at least more than what we still owe on it, so that's nice. Now to get a "for sale" sign up... ugh.

Virginia - Such a sweet picture! I sorta feel like we're done, but sorta wish we weren't. I always feel like if all this neuro crap hadn't happened, I probably would've tried for a 4th and final baby. Even though we ALWAYS said we wanted three.... So what we have is really perfect for us and I feel lucky to have them all. I just love them all so much!

Lauren - Sorry the ceiling wasn't perfect. I dread fixing ours.. It has been unfixed for like a year now, ugh. It's in a basement so not THAT big of a deal, but still VERY annoying.

AFM - I've had a few decent days of neuro stuff, which is nice. Yesterday, I *almost* felt normal for a while. I've never felt perfectly normal again, but occasionally a day where it's close, so I'll take what I can get. Today, my right food is numb. It sucks and is very unnerving, BUT at least it isn't pain. I'd take the numbness over the neuropathic pain any day. Thursday, I go for repeat MRIs of brain and cervical spine with and without contrast this time, so if something's not right in there, they'll have better chances of seeing it, I guess. December 6th, I'll talk to the Lyme Dr. and get the results of all the tests he ordered.

I got today off, woohoo! I had to work a double on Friday for the manager to go to a meeting, so today, he's working a double to cover my shift in return. It's mostly a hibernation day. I did go to the grocery store this morning, but the kids are all sick, so we won't be doing anything else. I'm going to make some giant pots of soup, bean/ham soup and potato soup (probably with bacon and cheddar cheese, yummm). I'll freeze what we don't eat for quick meals later. Smile I wish the kids would be non-sick for a while. Sean has an outer ear infection and is getting ear drops for that, Nolan has a middle ear infection and is getting amoxicillin for that, and all three of them have HORRIBLE coughs. They've all been checked out and have clear lungs, though, thank goodness. We kept Sean out of school for today, so we're all just going to lounge at home together.

Virginia - It wasn't until Natalie was a bit older that I felt like my family was more complete, or maybe it is having 4 animals now...

Katie - Good to hear work is going well. Too bad the house hasn't sold, fingers crossed for you. Yay that your DH found some work.

Mary - Glad your Neuro stuff is being less severe on you the last couple of days. Hopefully everyone gets some rest and recovers from their sicknesses today.

We had a hockey filled weekend, Dana had a local tournament they got eliminated in the semi-finals but they played pretty well the team that took them out was really good.

In the office today and it's pretty quiet, which is good, lets me get our catalogue done.

Well, DH is completely set against ever having a dog, so I can't try that approach!

DH goes back to work Thursday. It's going to get very interesting. Today he took Oliver out for the day and it's been so easy with the other three. After Raymond got home from kindergarten, we went out and did some grocery shopping then stopped at a painting place and they did a little project and we scheduled Raymond's birthday party. Now we just need to get a guest list together.

Arthur is a great baby, and huge. He's already outgrowing some 0-3 months clothes and when I take him out nobody believes he's only 3 weeks. He has given me a couple 6 hour stretches at night. The others never got there until 5-6 weeks. But he certainly has a good set of lungs. He lets us know whenever he's not completely happy and has some impressive volume.

Aw Virginia I'm so glad he's a good baby! And I'm feeling very jealous. Had this job not panned out I would have been preg or actively TTC now. Makes me a little sad but we can TTC in a while and enjoy our jobs/life more so it's all ok. But AF arrived this week and all your baby talk...sigh Wink

Amanda - Hm dogs haven't done it for me LOL I do think as they get older and involved in more life feels busy and complete though by nature Smile

Mary - glad you've had a good day off! I can't recommend house selling LOL Luckily the relo pays the realtor's 6% or we'd be looking at bringing money to closing as it is with the 6% paid for and the attorney paid for we should be about even to close, losing all we've paid of course prior. Blah! But hey if we had rented we'd have lost there too right? And luckily my raise and DH's likely raise over the course of a year should cover the lump loss. But it stinks. We knew it would but knowing and KNOWING are different. Aw well if/when it sells we will have a pretty easy time finding the right place here so that's good!

Totally random baby fever taking over my dreams. I rarely have really vivid realistic dreams. I just don't dream much and even more rarely clearly remember them but last night I had a very vivid dream I had triplets. Three baby boys bringing our total to five. Sigh. Totally bad timed baby fever. With both boys bdays coming up I'm just having one of those moments. No babies in my immediate future but apparently that isn't stopping my subconscious from wanting!

Katie - Hope the baby fever subsides.

Virginia - Hope the kids aren't too much of a handful while your DH is at work.

*AFM*

I keep wanting kittens lately, as if my house doesn't have enough animals. O.o Have to remind myself I am still paying off the vet and my credit card from Mal's surgery, and that we also paid $60 to the emergency vet clinic after having a panic attack when Sadie tore a nail off just over a week ago. Wish I drove then I might volunteer at a no-kill cat shelter, get my fix there.

Got finished a big part of my job just waiting on suppliers to let us know which of their products they want featured.
