October Chat Thread!

Happy October everyone!!!

Katie - I'm so excited for you guys! I'm glad you found a place to live that will work out for a little while. I'm glad you hired movers, it sounds stressful enough without all of that on top of it! heh

Virginia - your pregnancy is really flying by! Glad baby is comfy in there.

Mary - I'm glad you guys got some alone time for your anniversary. I don't even remember what alone time is anymore! haha Sean sounds exactly like Xander with Preschool, it's soooo cute.

Amanda - sorry you're not happy with Natalie's schooling. I hope you get to have a good talk with her teacher. Maybe she has other reasons for not wanting to switch her to the other class.

AFM - I really need to post here more often! I'm just not on the computer that much. I should be cleaning or something right now while Benjamin naps, but instead I'm wasting time on the computer. heh School is going really well for Xander! He has lots of little buddies, which makes me SO happy because he can be really shy (but once he is comfortable he's quite outgoing). He had to miss a day last week for his dental cleaning and the next day the other moms were telling me how their kids kept talking about how Xander wasn't there and that they missed him. It just melted my heart. But he loves to play "monsters" (chase) out on the playground and I guess he got all these other boys obsessed with it, so now they all run out there and go crazy. hahaha I never thought MY kid would be the one to get the other kids to play something. Like Mary's Sean, he now comes home singing all these little songs and he's constantly counting, etc. It's funny because I've always tried to get him to sing with me, and he NEVER would. Like he would freak out on me and say "NO!" and storm off. He just never cared for music, even as a baby. But now he does. I guess he just needed other kids doing it too. And he could always count, but never just did it on his own. Only at my prompting. I'm just really happy - this is just what he needed. We've had to start putting him down for bed really early, though. He was a little terror and we finally figured that he was just overtired, so we take him upstairs to get ready by 6:15 and he's out around 6:30-6:45 every night and now wakes up on his own happy as can be. We were having to drag him out of bed before...

Whoa October already!!

Lauren - that is so cute! I have been looking for part time pre schools (in NC) but they all appear to be church affiliated which isn't my thing. I nee to keep looking. The movers are part of my relocation package....I don't think I'd have accepted if they weren't moving us. Just getting the house ready for sale is exhausting.

I am relaxing a bit this morning bc I painted two rooms yesterday and it feels like I did a crazy work out (that is a sad state of.affairs to My lack of exercise)

Lauren - Good to hear that Xander is enjoying preschool.

Katie - Glad everything worked out with the job and that you found a place you can bring the dogs. Is the foster organization you work for a national one?

*AFM*

Haven't heard from Natalie's teacher so I left another message for her, if I don't hear back this time I will call the vice principle.

Dana had her first hockey practice for the season on the weekend, she enjoyed it. Natalie starts a hockey fundamentals program this up coming weekend.

I had one last u/s today. The placenta is 1.8 or 1.9cm from my cervix. They usually want it at 2cm to clear for a vaginal delivery. My doctor was fine with trying for a vaginal delivery at 1cm away, so I'm sure he'll be happy with the news. It's been moving 3-4mm a week for the past 5 weeks, so if baby stays put for another week or two we should be in pretty good shape. And it doesn't look like he's going anywhere. My cervix is still "really long".

Apparently the edge of the placenta is "pretty vascular" and the MFM doctor expects I'll have bleeding. Hopefully it won't be too much, because baby is already "very low, especially for a mom who has had babies before" (I could have told her that. I have to lift up on my belly to pee.) and the hope is that his head will compress the edge of the placenta (like a tourniquet).

Baby looks healthy and is estimated at 6lbs 12oz. Already almost where DS3 was when born. Smile I go to see my MW tomorrow. I'm sure she'll be thrilled with the news.

The MFM doctor told me to be sure to ask my doctor to update her after the delivery. She's really interested to find out how it goes. I'm a little surprised my cervix is doing so little. I was 1cm and 50% at 36 1/2w with DS1, 2cm, 50% and super soft at 38w (first check) with DS2. I was never checked with DS3. Maybe it feels different than it looks? I blame the lack of progress on not being allowed to DTD. Wink

Yay baby month Virginia!! I'm glad you'll be able to try a vaginial delivery.

Amanda - I hope you hear from the teacher.

Katie - ugh painting! You earned your break. heh

AFM - I got back a bit ago from a field trip to the Farmer's Market for Xander's school. Yeah, I'm thinking I maybe shouldn't volunteer for these things. Xander does great at school. Xander does great at home. But for some reason when those two worlds collide he just can't cope and he turns into this little terror! He even wriggled out of my hand and ran away! Like RAN away! He did the same thing at our schools open house, like he couldn't handle DH and I being on his turf. Luckily today I yelled "1....... 2............." and he stopped. I can't believe that actually worked. We were out by tons of roads, he could've easy run into a road. This is completely out of character for him. He's never been a bolter, not even when he was 2! So I can't believe he's started doing this now, but only if DH and/or I are with him at school. It's so weird! If I hadn't been there he probably would've been a perfect angel and followed the other kids lead. But instead I basically couldn't even help with the other kids because I had to keep him contained. Ugh! I felt like the biggest idiot parent in the universe, like all these other parents and teachers must think I have zero control over him, yet he's usually such a good listener. Luckily this little outburst of him only lasted a few minutes, and then he was well behaved the rest of the time.

2 hours of contractions from 4-6am (when labor usually starts for me). started 10 min apart, went to 7 min apart before suddenly stopping. Hopefully I made a little progress. I wonder if it'll come back tonight.

Working today then have a crazy weekend ahead, it's Thanksgiving, so I'll need a weekend after my weekend.
Tonight I need to bring the pets to the vet and get goodies made, tomorrow I have to finish cleaning my house for Sunday, and get everything ready for Thanksgiving at our house then off to dinner at my grandmas condo. Sunday hockey and Thanksgiving at my house. Monday Thanksgiving at DH's grandma's. Thankfully I have Tuesdays off.

just the odd contraction here and there. I've been updating my lodge over on birthing naturally since this board has unfortunately gotten as slow as the rest of the site.

Virginia - You're so close, omg!! I hope you can have an uneventful vaginal delivery.

Katie - Did you move yet??

Lauren - Yikes! I just went on a field trip with Sean to a pottery, but thankfully he was well-behaved and held my hand like he was supposed to. It was so cute to see all the other little kids. Smile

Amanda - Happy Thanksgiving! I can't wait for our TG... Love all the yummy food, haha. Smile

AFM - Sorry I've been MIA lately. Ugh, life is intense. I worked the last 8 days in a row... I rarely work that many any a row anymore... One was an extra shift to cover for my coworker who injured herself so that my other coworker who is freshly back from his time off with cancer didn't have to work 14 hours straight. 1/4 of my days off are spent driving to and from Michigan (4-5 hours each way) for Sean's peanut treatment (which is going pretty well). The kids were all recently sick... Sean and Calvin both had ear infections, Sean also had a sinus infection, and Nolan had croup. DH had man-sickness (we all know how that goes). AFM - Still waiting on the results of the recent blood/urine tests for Lyme, other tick-borne illnesses, and auto-immune problems. I might not find out until December. However, I just finished my month-long course of antibiotic treatment for Lyme, and within a week after finishing, my knees were back to burning pain... Convinced it's a nasty case of Lyme disease. I just hope it does improve... Ugh.

Hey all!

Virginia are you still holding on? Any baby?

Amanda - hope the vet went well

Mary - that sounds crazy busy. Do all the boys go to the doc appointments or do the other two/DH stay home? Sounds exhausting. I hope your blood work and response to antibiotics gives you some answers and a course of treatment.

AFM - we are all officially in NC. I flew in last week and worked M-F then flew back to NY F and today we drove down. 11.5 hours, 2 vehicles, 2 kids, 2 cats, 8 dogs. CRAZY. But we're all here safe and sounds. We're in a hotel (dogs are in a kennel) until our stuff arrives this week and we can move in to our rental. I'm so tired and I have to work tomorrow. I can't wait to go to bed! Hopefully once we move in life will settle back in to a routine!

Katie - Good to hear everyone got to NY safe and sound. Hope the move into the new place goes smoothly.

Virginia - I hope baby comes soon.

*AFM*

Thankgiving here so we had a very busy weekend, one dinner after another, with us hosting one of them. Mostly everything went well, except DH got a speeding ticket after picking up his mom, which he didn't tell me he was doing. :firemad:

Thankfully the animals vet visit on Friday was uneventful (we have 2 healthy male animals) and didn't cost us much.

DH made a deal with Natalie, figuring she would never do it, that if she stopped sucking her thumb for a week she could get her ears pierced well she made it 10 days without sucking it so we took her on Saturday to get them done. She cried a little but did really well, shes also been excellent at letting me help her keep it clean.

Nothing as far as I know. I'm officially more pregnant than I've ever been. After all the worry that he'd have to be born early it's actually pretty funny. I'm not particularly uncomfortable or anything, although I am getting a little impatient.

Based on ovulation day, Raymond was born at 39+2, Alex at 39+4, and Oliver at 38+4 and I'm now at 39+5.

That would be fine. The weekend would be fine, too. It would be hard to start another week still pregnant, though.

Sorry you're still preg, darn kids Smile Since I was 9 days over due with Rory making it to 41+2 I know how uncomfortable it can be! I hope he has a nice safe easy arrival ASAP Smile He just wants to be sure that placenta is pulled nice and far away!

We're still at the Residence Inn, our stuff still isn't here yet. Not a huge deal. It has until Monday to arrive though Friday or Saturday would be best. The boys are having fun, DH is enjoying all the time with them and I really like my new job. So all of that is good. I had a mini meltdown earlier this week b/c I really am not a fan of our rental house. It's just the sad feeling of selling a beautiful home and renting a lack luster one. It's not awful, it's in a very nice area but it's not the beautiful home we own. And of course the stressful reality of needing to sell that home to buy one like it or better. On the bright side it was listed late last night and with no marketing besides listing it on MLS there is already a scheduled viewing. So here's to hoping we get a buyer fast and can take our time to find the perfect home to buy here. We also booked Thanksgiving in Philadelphia. We're going to go to my sister's place. I'm psyched. About 4 hours less than going home, no hassle of trying to see both sides and my sis can't make it to NY b/c she has to work the following Friday so this gives us a chance to ensure she gets a family holiday too. I'm looking forward to it Smile

Katie - Glad you like the new job. I imagine I'll have the same disappointment if we rent while trying to sell our house... Blech. Can't imagine going back to some of the rentals we've had.

Virginia - Still pregnant? Congrats on your longest pregbancy yet! I'm surprised you've never had one go to your EDD (yet).. Maybe this one will!

AFM... On my phone, riding to Sean's appointment with the peanut doctor in MI. Today he'll go up to 50mg peanut flour, equivalent to about 21mg peanut protein. This will the the last liquid dose. After this, he will go up to capsules of peanut flour that we'll open and mix in applesauce. He'll be on that in increasing doses over several months before eating a real whole peanut.... Can't even imagine that right now. I'll probably have a panic attack, haha..

Nolan is getting big, almost 6 months, over 18lbs, getting up on hands and knees for brief periods, sleeping pretty well (probably just jinxed it).

Katie - Glad things are going well there. Sorry you have to rent, hope you find the perfect place soon.

Mary - Hope Sean's peanut increase goes well, keeping everything crossed for you.

Natalie started the before/after school child care program this week, she's going Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's. She enjoyed her time there yesterday.

I forgot to mention that my aunt (she's only a year older than me) is pregnant with her 3rd child. I think she's crazy she has trouble keeping up with her two (9 and 7 years old) not sure how she'll handle a baby in the mix. I know that the first bit with Natalie was tough and I had a very easy going 10 year old.

I'm home today, should be doing house work and am waiting on a package from FedEx, ordered a Fitbit (an activity/sleep band) can't wait to try it out. DH loves his I had to wait because I wanted the pink band. We've agreed that this will be our main Christmas presents.

Katie - sorry the rental house isn't perfect. There are so many things we dislike about our current rental, but it's also such an amazing price... I hate moving, but I'm looking forward to a new home next summer. I'm glad the job is going well and your family is so happy!

Mary - yay for the peanut treatment going well! I can't believe Nolan is 6 months already. How is Calvin doing?

AFM: yep. Still pregnant. EDD tomorrow and hopefully I'll get checked and find out if I've made any progress (was 3+cm long and closed by u/s at 38w) My MW has Sunday (20th) as my EDD, but I decided I'd stick with the EDD from my obvious O date instead.

Amanda - I saw your pic on FB and realized my boss wears one! I have wondered what it was b/c it wasn't like her other jewelry and I liked it, now I know! Glad you got one looks really cool!

Virginia - that little guy is really holding out! I keep coming to check on the status! Smile

Mary - I can't believe how big Nolan is now! I feel like he was just born! And that's amazing for Sean. It's been such a big time commitment for all of you I'm glad it's working out.

In the hotel we've been putting the boys to bed together and it's been going fairly well. I'm thinking it may work pretty easily in the rental. Our stuff is due in Saturday which is actually good b/c we'll both be around to monitor kids and get stuff unpacked. Hopefully I'm feeling less negative about the house. It just feels like it's been lived in hard if that makes sense. And we are just keep our things nice sorts. But I need to repeat the mantra that it's temporary and it's in a beautiful area and it's in a great price range.

Work has been great. It's such a fun team. I haven't felt so positively towards work in a very long time.

due date today. Just sitting around twiddling my thumbs. I have an appointment soon. I wonder what happens now. Guess we'll find out.

Baby might finally have a middle name. Maybe that will make him come. Raymond thinks he's waiting until we get our heat on. We've been throwing on extra sweaters and blankets so far because we haven't gotten around to digging toys out of the radiators.

I feel gross, but that could just be because I had a long day with the kids and no nap for me. Oliver also hasn't napped for 3 days. And I've been stress eating sweets. Wink I'm so happy it's Friday. I plan to go to bed as soon as DH gets home.

My appointment went well. I ended up with an u/s because I'm measuring only 35w. But baby is growing fine (7lbs 9oz) and the fluid level was perfect. He's not particularly low today, but my cervix is "at least 2cm and very soft and very stretchy". The MW only did a very cautious internal exam because she didn't want to mess with the low placenta.

It doesn't. I'm almost a week later than Alex came and 2 weeks later than Oliver. This is so weird! I had a good episode of contractions (almost 4 hours!) Saturday night but somehow they stopped again. I've been losing lots of plug the last two days, so hopefully it will be soon. If I make it to Friday my MW will probably want to talk induction. I think I'll just go along with it if we get there and maybe ask for Saturday. We've been through too much stress and worry trying to get #4. I want to stop worrying and finally hold him.

We are having wifi issues at the house and I logged on with my phone fully expecting to read a baby announcement I can't believe this little one is such a hold out!! I hope when he arrives it is nice and fast and is happily in your arms in no time!

I can't believe you are still preg! So crazy!

Ahh we have WIFI again! DH needed to do something with the wireless router and it's all set now. I feel much better hahaha

OMG having a SAHD is fantastic! Not juggling kids and dinner and the chaos of coming in after a long day to everything haywire is just so great. Of course our house is going to have to sell to really sustain this lovely lifestyle. If it does sell we'll be in really good shape to stay 1 income if not...well...ya DH will need to find something. So we'll see. Still only the one scheduled viewing Thursday. I realize it's only been on the market a week but I was hoping we might garner a bit more interest at least from lookers. Bah.

Yes, still pregnant. I can't believe it. I have my BPP and appointment Friday morning. I imagine we'll choose an induction date then. I don't want to go past the 31st because then DH would lose a little of his paternity leave.

Almost to 41 weeks! That's crazy considering you were early the last three times! So much for consistent!

Nothing really exciting to report here. DH took the boys to pick out costumes today b/c we've been totally holiday delinquent. Just so much going on. Evan will be a pirate. We may go to a Renaissance Fair Saturday that has trick or treating etc and let the boys have some fun. Sounded like a nice day and a good way to do Halloween Smile I'll be anxious to hear if we get any feedback from the people seeing the house tomorrow. They are the only folks so far who set an appointment so we'll see. I'm hoping we at least get some feedback on the house. We put in new carpet downstairs and had previously put in hard wood floors. I don't know if it would be worse to have a lot of lookers but I wish we had a bit more activity. Meh. I keep trying to remind myself I really can't control this, it will sell when it sells, so it's better to just focus myself elsewhere! But I'm a worrier and I can't help myself.

No word on the people that saw the house today BUT another person is coming Saturday! Fingers crossed because I freaking LOVE having a SAHD! OMG it's fantastic. The rental house is coming together. It's still a bit rough and there are some things like the rough carpets we can't (or won't) fix but we have hung some stuff and sorted out the dogs so that they have space. OMG we went from fence to no fence...with 8 dogs...someday I'm going to write the adventures of life and moving (twice) with 8 dogs. We're nuts. But we're surviving and falling in to a routine, finally!

Katie - Glad you are getting settled in the new place, hope your house sells soon, are you planning on buying where you are if you do sell?

I'm in the office spreading the plague, I have a cold. I do have q question for Mary, I have a bottle of Vitamin C it expired in August, didn't use much last year, lucked out and didn't get sick October - May, anyway I am wondering if it would be OK to take now. What I found seems to say it is it just might not be as effective. But I'd rather trust a pharmacist over the internet.

Here is the article I read.
Is Expired Vitamin C Dangerous? | LIVESTRONG.COM

If they were over 6 months expired I might toss them but this is only 2 months.

Arthur Robert was born at 1:01 am October 25th, at 41w, after an intense 2 hour 15 minute labor. To our shock, he is 8lbs 15oz and 21.5". He's a pound and a half heavier than my previous biggest baby. I made it through, but had some "substantial" blood loss after delivery. I'm doing a lot better now (17 hours out) than when he was born, but I'm still weak and shaky.
Arthur is a great baby and a great nurser. I'll try to get photos and a full birth story up sometime after I get a little sleep.

WELCOME ARTHUR!!! I'm glad all went well, you got a vaginal delivery and you're recovering. Give yourself time to heal mama Smile He still sounds like a peanut to me Wink

Amanda - we will buy eventually. We have a one year lease. I don't love the house but I'm adjusting. The carpets are old and beat up, the land is meh and there is no fence which is a PITA with 8 dogs. But we really are adjusting fine. So I think in an ideal world our house would sell fast and we'd have flexibility to save some money and just look for the perfect house. If the house drags on past January we probably won't be able to maintain rent and mortgage and the double bills on just my salary. So we'll see! Someone is going at 11 tomorrow...so fingers crossed Smile

He's beautiful, Virginia! Loved the story... sounds like a whirlwind birth experience. Almost made me want to give birth again... lol, almost!

Congratulations Virginia!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is sooooo adorable!

Your L&D sounds almost exactly like mine was with Benjamin, it was SO hard and I was soooo shaky and lost a ton of blood. I hate to say this, but I felt weak for weeks and it took me a long time to feel *normal* again. Luckily my DH had a lot of time off and my mom came to visit, otherwise I'm not sure how I would have managed. Will you get help from any other family? Take care of yourself sweetie!
