Those are great Mary! Sure beats paying a photographer, huh? Do you just use a sheet as the backdrop?

I love the bonus pic of Peanut! Smile

Thanks! I must've done okay on these ones. I uploaded some to be printed for my mom at her local walmart... She got there to pick them up and they were ready, but they wouldn't let her have them. They told her they looked professional and that they wouldn't release them unless I came into the store (an hour and a half away) and signed a copyright release. :bonkself:

That's crazy. What did you do? Do you mind sharing any of your tips... or any advice on how you got from snapshots to "professional" photos?

Sure... I used a white sheet as the background. I hung it from a laundry rack that my mom gave me, but you could hang it from whatever. Then draped white Christmas lights over it and used a white furry blanket for them to sit on. I put it in my best lit room (the kitchen), on the opposite wall of the biggest window, so the kiddos would be facing the light. It's best to have them as far from the background (closer to the camera) as possible. That helps to get the lights in the background to blur.

It's best to use manual controls if you know how... You need to use a wide aperture (low f-stop number, I think I used f/2 or less for most of these). That really helps to create the background blur effect by creating a shallow depth of field and keeping the focus right on the subject.

Then I used Lightroom for some simple edits... Cropping and color-correcting, mostly. A little light vignette on the first one with Calvin's bum. Voila!
