Update on bleeding (poss m/c ment) - XP *Update in 1st Post!*

So, this morning I had some more dark red spotting, so I called my OB and told them it was bleeding. I am sick and tired of "waiting", so they brought me in to see the doctor today. Doctor said everything was old blood, but I have a slow trickle, and labeled me a threatened miscarriage at this point. I had a beta level drawn today, and will have another one drawn on Thursday.

Then I had an u/s this afternoon. We have a beautiful heartbeat of 126 bpm! I'm measuring 6w3d, about a day or so behind my EDD. Anyhow, we were so relieved to see the hb and thought all was well until my OB office called. Apparently the u/s was inconclusive at this point on whether or not the pregnancy is viable. The positive was a strong fetal hb and pole, and the fact that I'm measuring right on schedule, the not so positive was a "strange texture" at the bottom part of my uterus near the baby. The nurse said it was inconclusive at this point what it is, and we basically wait to see what my beta levels do on Thursday. Apparently it could be anything from a vanishing twin (I guess this is the good outcome), or that the baby didn't implant properly and that I will go on to m/c at some point.

Anyhow, so no definitive answers at this point. I am so thrilled for a hb, but now I am scared to death something will happen to that little bean if it's not implanted like it should be. At this point, I'm pretty numb over this whole pregnancy. I feel completely exhausted and would just like to know one way or another.

Thanks for listening.

**Update!!** - Well, I just got my betas back from a little while ago, and they are going up, up, up! I was at 84,000 on Tuesday, and 109,000 yesterday!! So, no doubling, but they didn't expect that since my numbers were already so high. The nurse I talked to this morning said she's leaning towards vanishing twin since my numbers are so high for where I am gestationally, so that is good news! And they are very, very positive about this pregnancy, now! I'm a little bit relieved! But, I won't be totally happy until my next u/s, which is the 14th! Wink I'll be 8w3d, and they're just going to check up on the baby's growth and the bleed in there.

So yay for climbing numbers!

I'm so sorry to see this today... I really, really hope the bean sticks. I know exactly what you're going through and have been through it twice myself, once with a good outcome and once with a bad outcome. So either way, if you need to vent about it, I totally understand and am here to listen. :bighug:

I hope the next beta brings you good news. :bighug:

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all your positive thoughts and vibes and prayers. Smile

I had my second beta drawn today, so we will know if my numbers are climbing tomorrow morning. I got my results (for the sake of curiosity) from Tuesday, and they were 84,000! I didn't think much of it, since I don't know too much about beta levels, until I popped it into betabase and I am waaaaay over the normal range for 6 weeks (1000-56,000)! Yikes. So, at least it's not LOW! But that is super high! I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Lots of positive thoughts for climbing numbers!

Well if a vanishing twin could be a potential cause of everything maybe that's why the numbers are so high! It would make sense. Either way I have EVERYTHING crossed that you get through all this and have a healthy happy bean!

You know, as weird as this sounds, I'm not sad at all about the vanishing twin, if that's what this is. They don't have a definitive diagnosis yet, but two nurses have told me on separate occasions that they have their money on that because of the spotting and high numbers. Either way, I'm not sad about it, really, which probably sounds terrible! But we never even know there was a second fertilized egg in there until after the u/s and them finding that spot next to the baby. So, really, I didn't even know it existed!

I've done some reading on it, and vanishing twin (or diminishing twin as my office calls it) is actually really common! I saw something like 30% of pregnancies start off as twin pregnancies, and for whatever reason, mother nature gets rid of one. I guess they've seen a huge rise in the diagnosis in the last several years since the advent of early u/s. It's kind of interesting!

Either way, I am actually grateful to mother nature for what she has done, if this is in fact a vanishing twin. After my preterm crap with Owen, and delivering him 4 weeks early, I'm pretty sure my uterus could not sustain a twin pregnancy!! So yeah, I am happy for a singleton! Wink Now all I need is a growing, still healthy baby at my 8 week u/s and then maybe I can relax a little bit!

ETA: Also, I haven't had any spotting since last night, so fingers crossed I've seen the last of it! It stopped once before, and came back, so I'm not holding my breath. But I sure hope I've seen the last of it!

I'm glad you feel that way, and it doesn't sound horrible at all! I had seen that statistic, too. I was wondering how you were taking it given your history with Owen. I hope the spotting is gone for good.

Doesn't sound horrible to me either! I'm just glad things are looking good for the little bean you saw in there beating away! And truthfully you'll never really know what happened so I think focusing on the likely healthy bean is the way to go Smile Another week and hopefully a good u/s will help put everything at ease! Yay for a good update, glad you have a healthy bean in there and a possible explanation for the bleeding.
