I have my d&c scheduled for Friday afternoon (no set time until the day before). I have a pre-op appt on Thursday morning. I really feel okay with it. Of course I would love it if I could miscarry before then, but feel better about it (lots of praying). Anyone had one with any advice? My little sister is going to watch the kids that day and will probably stay the weekend. Thankfully dh's work is flexible and he can go to the pre-op appt and the surgery as well. And I'll have the weekend to feel better. I have heard lots of ppl feel fine the next day, so that would be great! And it will be the suction kind, which makes me feel better, since there isn't the same scarring risk.

My D&C was totally uneventful and much less traumatic than I had thought.
The first couple days I barely spotted and did not even need pain meds. What took me by total suprise was about four days post D&C when I basically felt like I was going into labor (I imagine that is what it would be like I had sharp intermittent cramping (full on contractions-I could not do anything when they were happening except clutch my chair!) and passed a substantial amount of large clots. I joked that it was my "finale" when telling my doc and I really think it was my body finally 'realizing' (I had a 'missed' MC) and expelling whatever tissue may have been left. He was totally unsuprised and unconcerned...I was a bit concerned at the time though after barely spotting at all with no pain before. It only lasted about 4 hours and I had to take pain meds but I think the doc should have prepared me for that. Heck...told me it might happen. So....FYI....it might happen! I think I also had some sharp intermittent cramps at night until my "finale" but not bad enough to take meds but just bad enough to wake me up.
Otherwise...bleeding/spotting stopped after about 10 days and no bleeding since.
Best of luck to you and I am sorry you have to go through this.

Rachel, I had a "missed" m/c...I didn't know I lost the baby until my 12 week appt when they couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler, so they did a u/s....baby only measured 8.5 weeks. I waited 2 weeks to see if my body would miscarry on its own, it did not. THe D&C itself wasnt bad....the dr explained everything to me before hand and I was OUT for the procedure. I went back to work the next day....had about 1 week of bleeding/spotting afterward. However, I had to go bad 4 weeks later because they didn't get it all the 1st time. SO, the 2nd time was much worse..mentally, physically and emotionally.
Good luck, I'm sure you will recoup quickly.
We are lucky to have these boards to ask questions and share feelings and ideas with one another. I know that I'd be lost without you girls.

I'm probably a bit late on this - not sure what day it is here half the time, let alone half way across the world! I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through this. I was scheduled for a D&C last week and ended up m/c the afternoon before, so I guess I was "lucky". I hope all goes really well for you. I did have a D&C many years ago, and apart from slight cramping, I felt better the next day and had minimal bleeding. My thoughts are with you.
