hCG and AF after m/c? (also probably TMI)

This may be a totally stupid question, but is it possible for AF to return before hCG levels return to 0? I had a miscarriage early in March, and I bled for almost 10 days, but then the bleeding pretty much stopped except for some brown spotting. Yesterday and today, I have had a steady flow of blood that is much more like a normal period for me (in amount and quality) and minor cramping that is like normal period cramping (very different from m/c cramping, as all of you unfortunately know). My dr. has been monitoring my hCG levels weekly since the m/c began. Last Friday, I was down to 173. I didn't think AF would come back until well after I'd gone back to 0. It's only been 26 days since my m/c began, so not quite a full 4 weeks.

Sorry for the TMI post. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on with my body. I would appreciate any insights you all have. Thanks!

I think it's possible, infact, I think I got my AF when my levels were not yet zero. However, 173 is a pretty high HCG and I wouldn't think it would happen until you're below at least 50 or so. I think I was around 25 HCG when I got mine. It was about six weeks after my miscarriage.

Did you have a D&C, or is it possible you had some retained POC from a natural miscarriage and you are just now passing whatever was left?

Hope that helps!

I did not have a d&c, so it is def possible that this is leftover poc. It just seems strange to have so much bleeding after weeks of nothing.

My hCG is probably lower than 173 by now. The 173 was from 3/28. On 3/21, it was 1110, so it's dropping like crazy.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hello. I am sorry for your loss Sad

It is possible to get AF before your levels get to 0. I had a partial molar pregnancy, and it took almost 8 months for my levels to get to below 5 ("not pg.") I got AF 31 days after my MC... and got a regular cycle for all 8 months it took the levels to drop.

:bigarmhug: I am sorry for your loss. I miscarried on February 1. AF came on March 8. I don't know what my HCG levels were when AF came, my doctor only tested them twice the week after I miscarried, to see if they were decreasing or not. They were, so she just assumed that I was fine.
