I just found out on Tuesday that I lost my baby. i was 8 weeks and now I have to schedule a D&C. Can someone tell me what I am in for? I have never had one before.

I'm so sorry for your loss!

Physically, I can tell you that my D&C was pretty painless. I was put under general anesthesia, so I was completely out during the procedure. When I woke up after it was done, I had some mild cramping but it stopped fairly quickly. I bled heavily for a day or two, and then it tapered off like a regular period and was done after about a week. I was able to continue all my normal acitivities and went right back to work the following day.

For me, I had a much tougher time recovering emotionally that I did physically. The D&C itself went about as well as it could have, given the sad circumstances, and I was happy to have it all over with so I could begin to heal.

Again, I'm so sorry, and please feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.

So sorry for your loss. Please ask us any questions. The procedure itself is relatively simple and very short. I was almost 16 weeks along and it took less than half an hour for everything. OB said it took him about 5-10 minutes (I actually had a D&E...similar, but just for when you are further along). Physically, it was easy. I didn't even have any cramping after they turned off the pitocin. Emotionally, it was devastating. I am not sure anyone fully recovers from it. It does get better, though, day by day.

Sweetie you really need to talk to your doctor. He/She will help you determine what is happening to you. Lots of luck.

Sorry for your loss.

I actually delivered at 16 weeks and had the D/C to remove the placenta. The D/C was no big deal, they put you under. After you have some mild cramping and they will check to make sure that your bleeding isn't out of control. I bled for 6 days and then it tapered off.

Could not have sex until my 6 week check up but every doctor is different with that.

Emotionally is tough, you will have a lot of different emotions. Feel free to come here anytime. The ladies here are wonderful.

Thinking of you

I am so so sorry for your loss.

I had a d & c 2 weeks ago (had a missed miscarriage around 9 weeks) The procedure itself is painless, and over in a matter of minutes. I had general aneasthetic, which I think is the norm. It is also day surgery, so you should be home early evening. I hardly bled at all after the d & c, and the only pain that I had was emotional. I think the procedure is not as bad as it sounds, but coming to terms with your emotions can be more difficult. If you have any questions or just want to talk, please feel free to pm me. Lots of hugs to you.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
I had a D&C, but it was a few days after I miscarried at home. I agree with the PP that physically it wasn't awful. I was put under and then woke up twenty minutes later. I was in no pain at all, just groggy. I didn't have any cramps and bled very lightly, but I think that was becase I had already bled so much with my miscarriage.
Emotionally, I feel very fragile. It's been a week and a half and physically I am healed. However, I know that emotionally I'm hurting. I know that over time, I'll feel better. I worked out yesterday and today and that helped my mood and emotions.
I'll be thinking of you. Let us know how you're doing.
