New Here, Placeta Accreta Question (M/C ment, child ment)

Hi everyone.
I am currently going thru my 2nd pregnancy loss. I am/was 5 weeks along.
My first child was born in 2005, and I had placenta accreta that wasn't discovered until delivery. I had to have a D&C a week after delivery, and no follow up was ever done as I didn't even realize it should have been. My first loss happened in Nov 2006 at 7 weeks, and now as I mentioned my second is underway.
I am wondering if any of you out there has ever had placenta accreta, and if you know the effect it has on future pregnancies and miscarriages? I have not been to see my physician yet with this loss, but when I do I am planning to request an ultrasound as well as a referral to an ob/gyn. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for reading.

I personally have not gone through it, but I have had a friend who did. From what I understand of it, and doing some research for her, it depends on the severity of the case. Basically, your placenta pushed into your uteral lining far more than it should have. It can affect the shape and size of your uterus now, which can cause some complications with subsequent pregnancies. I'm not exactly sure what the miscarriage rate is, I haven't read about one. I would highly suggest talking to an OB about it and getting a ultrasound done to ensure no permanent dmg happened. As far as what can be done to pervent it or fix it, unfortunately, nothing that I know of. Once your diagnosed with it, your OB should keep a very close eye on you and generally (as in the case with my friend back home) end up having the baby delivered prematurely. I also haven't seen a rate of it happening more than once as each pregnancy can be different.

I hope this helps a little and I am very sorry for your losses. I'll be praying for you!

Thank you all very much for your kind words. It helps so much to know that there are women out there who understand the pain that you suffer while going thru all this.
I hadn't realized that the uterus could be misshappen after placenta accreta, so thank you for that information. I will be requesting a referral to an ob/gyn as soon as I am able to get in to see my doctor.
And thank you for the link. I will see what information I can gather on there.
You have all be helpful...thank you!

Thank you. Although it makes me so sad reading that so many women are going thru the same things, it is comforting to know we're not alone in our pain.
I got a referral to an OB/Gyn yesturday, so hopefully she will be able to shed some light on what is going on. I finally feel there may be some hope.
