Pathology testing? **UPDATE**

I have my 2 week post D&C appointment in a few days. My baby died at 14 weeks. They said they will have pathology results then. What should I expect? What do they usually test for? Will I know the baby's sex, will they know exactly how many weeks (she) was? I just have a strong feeling that it was a girl. Will they know why the baby died?
I am asking all of you who have been through it before.
I know this board is quiet. Anyone know what to expect?

I am sure these past few weeks have been hard, sending prayers.
They should be able to tell you the sex of the baby. Besides that it all depends. You may get some answers or you may get none. I would write down any questions you have now and bring it with you. Many times in the heat of the moment we forget things we wanted to ask. Keep us posted.

I am so sorry for your loss. When I had my d&c they did lots of testing. I was able to find out the gender as well as what happened to cause the loss (but only because it was a genetic anomaly).
I agree about writing down questions. Our biggest question was would this loss effect future pregnancies?

I think it is different for everyone and depends on what they are able to get. I don't know if most people are able to get as much information as we were able to get.

(((HUGS)))

I'm so sorry for you loss. :bigarmhug: I'm glad that you are able to have a follow up to discuss the test results with your doc. I say this because I received the results to our baby's genetic testing through a voicemail on my cell phone from my doc. We lost our baby at 9 wks. I had a D&C and they did do genetic testing. We found out that our baby had Turner's Syndrome. I would think they should be able to tell the sex of your baby since they check the chromosomes. I hope you are able to find some answers and find peace.

Thank you for your responses ladies. I appreciate them.
I really dread the appointment. I hate that it's so sad to go back there for an awful update- not a happy prenatal check up.
I don't even know what I am hoping for. A healthy baby that "just didn't make it" or a "good" medical reason why she died? This sucks.

Thank you again for letting me get this out here, hugs to you all!

Pathology results.

I had my 2 week post op and they had pathology results.
This was a partial molar pregnancy.
If there is anyone out there, who went through it- could you please post and tell me more about it from a personal perspective?

I am not allowed to get pregnant for a year. I will be having weekly blood draws. There might be another D&C in my future. And I thought, I was done with the doctor's visits. Ha!

I didn't expect this, I didn't even know about this before!
They didn't do gender testing on the baby, it's better -I can keep believing that she was a girl.
She wouldn't be able to live past 20 weeks gestation b/c she had 3 sets of chromosomes instead of 2.
Anyway, that's my update. Is there anyone out there who went through it? There must be.
I started on the pill right away and now, 15 hours later I started bleeding very very dark blood. I don't know if it's normal or not.
Just wanted to update.

Please check with your doctor about the reaction to the pill. Follow the advice for the full year.

Tell me about the blood clot please. This has me very worried!

Love you my friend!!!

I am glad you got some answers as to why. I am sorry as it seems like you were dealt a double blow of losing a baby and now the prospect of needing to wait to try again. I am sending hugs and prayers your way.
Over the years I have read of some other girls on the board suffered from molars. Some doctors have said wait a year, some others have said 6 months. I think it depends on the degree of severity of the molar pregnancy.
One suggestion I would make is to stay off the internet right now and not spend too much time researching molars pregnancies. One needs to be educated, but the internet is also full of “too much” information at times and can be overwhelming. Especially for those like you who are dealing with a loss.
Hang in there, the emotional pain does get better with time.
