    Default postpartum thyroiditis

    Hi ladies,

    This is my first time coming back to this site after my m/c a month ago. I lost my second pregnancy on my birthday, January 17. It's been really, really hard. I was 10 weeks 2 days, and we had seen the heartbeat twice.

    I went to the doctor and had some tests run. One came back indicating that I had an overactive thyroid. I went back and had followup tests run to determine what exactly was going on, and the tests all came back normal! I'm so confused. Can you get postpartum thyroiditis after a miscarriage? I'm wondering if it developed between my two pregnancies. Has anyone ever gone through this?

    We are going to have a few more tests run before we start ttc again, but I'm hoping everything comes back OK and that the thyroid issues were what caused the last m/c. I so want to be pregnant and to have a healthy baby, but at the same time, looking forward to it is so scary.

    Any thoughts?

    I am so sorry for your loss. Tyroid issues after a pregnancy are very common. It may not be the reason for the loss, but I would make sure they keep a watch on it. {{Hugs}}

    Had miscarraige Sept 09 and unexplained unusual symptoms for 6 months after i.e. heart palpitations, night sweats, burning ear at night, headache, fatigue, nausea. No doctor would give me any form of reason what it could be. Got pregnant again April 2010 & beautiful baby born Jan 11. The symptoms have all returned again since baby was born (had disappeared during pregnancy). Doc sent me for chest xray & blood test...all normal. I've been looking up thyroid dysfunction & I really think this is what I have...all the symptoms point in that direction. How come doctors go to college for 8 years when you end up trying to diagnose yourself!! Its ridiculous. The good news is that it didnt stop me conceiving even though I drove myself insane for those 6 months in between miscarraige and becoming pregant thinking I had fertility issues. So keep the faith! Evening primrose oil from Day 1-14, grapefruit juice & stamina!
